Bait and switch company. Raised my rates 100% after 6 months. No tickets or accidents during that time. Claimed that this is due to raising costs in California. I found rates even better than those before the raise.

I've had me auto insurance with them for almost 4 years and I've saved thousands of $. I have a 2019 F150, a 2016 Kia Sedona, and a 2012 Honda Civic. I was intrigued initially because my wife and I drive very little. My commute is 5 miles each way. She just takes kids to school and runs normal local errands for daily life. We both drive under 10k miles a year. I was paying over $450/month for insurance before. We do carry higher limits (ie. $250k/$500k liability instead of the state bare minimum $15k/$30k which is way too little to protect you financially in the event of an accident). My last bill from Metromile in Sept 2020 was $202.46. I've been paying HALF of what I used to pay for insurance for the last 48 months and it's awesome. Just for fun I recently got a quote from Progressive and Root to compare again. For matching coverage Root quoted $585.27/mo (189% more expensive!) and Progressive quoted $410/mo (102% more expensive). CLAIMS: I was also in an accident in 2019 where I was not at fault in my F150. They sent me to a reputable repair shop (https://calibercollision.com/) who deemed it a total loss. Within 2 weeks I had a check in my hand for $42k. Process was simple, quick, and no increase to my rates. Great company, great service, but most of all you saved me a ton of money every month for the last 4 years. Thank you!

worst car insurance company ever. When my car accident happened, they not only took more than a month to respond.....they were also trying to find EVERY SINGLE DETAILS to not over for my damage. What a shame, DO NOT TRUST THEM AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.

If I could give it negative infinity stars, I would. I was rear ended in February. It is now November, and still I have not received money for the repairs I did too my car. They replaced my car seats, and paid for medical bills (after a back and forth where the medical claims didnt pay until my bill was about to get sent to collections). I was told this would be easy because it's obvious I was rear ended, and should be quick. It's been 8.5 months and no money for repairs. Stay away from this insurance company!! Cannot be trusted. Claims kept hanging up on me today before ever picking up.

The company is simply a scam. For a year I drove fewer than 20 miles a month, then when I was hospitalized and unable to drive for several months and the battery died in my car they have decided to charge me 150 miles per month because they do not receive a "signal" and refuse to accept that it will be September or later before I will be able to drive again. They have no customer support or even care about their customers...DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM!!! And I have instructed my credit card company that any charges from METROMILE are fraud charges.

When our car was backed into the claim was so impossible to do we went through the other insurance company. Then a year later they tried to pass the claim to collections.

I've been with Metromile for three years and can recommend them. I've had one claim (hit a deer) and the process was very easy. I used the app to take pictures, spoke with a representative and then took my car to a local body shop I trust. Everything was handled quickly and without issue. Pricing has been good and has not varied much. It makes sense given the low amount of miles I drive. The app has also provided me with good information when my check engine light came on, enabling me to fix the issue myself. I like that the device only tracks mileage, not driving habits as some other insurance companies will do to let you save money.

My family relocated to California last summer, purchased a new car and new auto insurance from Metromile as I don’t drive much. During recent policy auto renewal, I found the insurance rate increased due to “A previous drive license suspension on August 25, 2018”. The actual rate increase started long time ago but I just didn’t realize. August 2018 is the time my family relocated from Massachusetts to California and I changed my DL from MA to CA. I’d never had DL suspended and believed this is just a mistake. I contacted Metromile and they asked to provide written proof from DMV. I contacted both MA and CA DMV, got required written proof indicating there is no DL suspension. Then I submitted the proofs to Metromile and their underwriter asked me to “provide documentation that specifically state that your license was never suspended in any state”. This is ridiculous considering my 20 years driving history and lived in 6 different states. They refuse to correct the rate and process the refund. I cancelled my policy immediately and switched to another traditional auto insurance company. Don’t want to any business with Metromile.
