Insurify Car: One-week car insurance for Texas drivers

Some Texas drivers may be looking to buy temporary car insurance coverage. The shortest policy you can buy is usually for six months, with a monthly payment schedule. But if you don’t need long-term insurance, or can’t afford large payments, weekly payments could be an option.

Insurify Car offers liability-only car insurance that lets you pay for coverage one week at a time, rather than committing to large monthly payments. You can buy your coverage, get immediate proof of insurance, pay weekly, and cancel whenever you want.

Best cheap car insurance companies in Texas

Plenty of national car insurance companies sell coverage in Kentucky. But you can often find competitive rates and great coverage from smaller, regional insurers as well as big companies.

State Farm is both the biggest insurer in the country and the largest in Kentucky. But Kentucky Farm Bureau, which only sells policies in the Bluegrass State, is the second-largest.

The best car insurance companies in Kentucky provide affordable coverage despite the state’s higher-than-average premiums. These insurers also offer a variety of auto policies and strong financial strength ratings.

Here are our top picks for car insurance in Kentucky.

Shame on them. Just because I'm a senior citizen they wanted to take advantage of me.

They are crooks. I have been a licensed driver for 44 years, insured, and this company had me for 3 months on pins and needles with their incompetent ways of taking information and putting the wrong numbers for my account even though they were on auto pay. They charged me for late fees for their errors, and at 69, I could not handle so much. They said my bank declined payment, and this went on for 3 months. Finally, I went to the bank, and my bank told them they had not received a request for payment from them. They still said I had to pay the bill with a late fee. That day I had an appointment with a doctor. Because of all this, I got lost and even got into my first accident. Then they tried to take my vehicle for $1,500. I was able to take my vehicle back and fix it myself for less than those $1,500 dollars, which they said was a total loss. I will not recommend this company.

How car insurance costs in Texas have changed

Auto insurance costs in Texas climbed sharply in 2024 due to factors like weather events, increased car accidents, and higher repair costs, according to the Office of Public Insurance Counsel.

Rates stabilized in 2025, with the average car insurance premium in Texas reaching about $2,470 per year, according to Insurify’s car insurance report. Insurify projects that this trend will continue, with only a slight 0.3% increase, bringing annual premiums to $2,477 by the end of 2026.

“One sneaky weather factor is hail, which leads to costly repairs for car exteriors and puts upward pressure on full-coverage rates,” says Matt Brannon, senior economic analyst at Insurify. “Texas has led the nation in hail events in recent years, and the average hail claim is about 22% more expensive than the average comprehensive claim.”

Texas car insurance requirements

Texas law requires drivers to have a minimum amount of liability insurance — often called 30/60/25 coverage — to legally drive in the state.[2] Liability coverage pays for the other driver’s injuries and property damage if you cause an accident.

Texas car insurance requirements include these property damage and bodily injury liability coverage limits:

Coverage Type
sort ascsort desc
Texas Requirement
sort ascsort desc
Bodily injury$30,000 per person/$60,000 per accident
Property damage$25,000

Texas uses TexasSure, an electronic verification system that checks whether registered vehicles carry active insurance.[3] You must show proof of coverage during traffic stops and when you register or renew your vehicle.

Insurers legally must offer personal injury protection and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage in Texas when selling you a policy, but you can decline it in writing.

If you do get into an accident, Texas is an at-fault state, which means claims go through the at-fault driver’s insurance.[4]

Car insurance rates across Texas cities

Insurance costs can vary widely across Texas cities. For example, drivers living in El Paso or Grapevine may pay much lower premiums than drivers in Houston or Dallas.

  • Is GEICO or Progressive cheaper in Texas?

Progressive is cheaper in Texas, though the insurers have similar costs. Progressive’s monthly liability rate averages $79, and a liability policy with GEICO averages $86 per month.

  • What are the car insurance rules in Texas?

Texas requires drivers to meet these minimum insurance requirements: $30,000 in bodily injury coverage per person, $60,000 in bodily injury coverage per accident, and $25,000 in property damage coverage per accident.

You can do several things to lower your car insurance costs in Texas, including comparing quotes from multiple insurers, increasing your deductible amount, enrolling in a telematics program, and asking your insurer which discounts you qualify for.

Methodology

Insurify data scientists analyzed more than 190 million quotes served to car insurance applicants in Insurify’s proprietary database to calculate the premium averages displayed on this page. These premiums are real quotes that come directly from Insurify’s 500+ partner insurance companies in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. Quote averages represent the median price for a quote across the given coverage level, driver subset, and geographic area.

Unless otherwise specified, quoted rates reflect the average cost for drivers between 20 and 70 years old with a clean driving record and average or better credit (a credit score of 600 or higher).

Liability-only premium averages correspond to policies with the following coverage limits:

  • Bodily injury limits between state-minimum rates and $50,000 per person, $100,000 per accident
  • Property damage limits between $10,000 and $50,000
  • No additional coverage
Full-coverage premium averages correspond to the same bodily injury and property damage limits in addition to:
  • Comprehensive coverage with a $1,000 deductible
  • Collision coverage with a $1,000 deductible

Quotes for Allstate, Farmers, GEICO, State Farm, and USAA are estimates based on Quadrant Information Services’ database of auto insurance rates.
