Drivers in Anaheim can expect to pay an average of $218 per month for car insurance. The city’s rates are slightly lower than California’s average of $202 and well below the national average of $160 per month.

Anaheim has a smaller population than other major California cities, including Los Angeles and San Diego.[1] But it’s home to Disneyland, which saw an estimated 16.8 million visitors in 2022.[2] The presence of tourists increases accident risks, which may contribute to Anaheim’s rates being slightly higher than you may expect.

Rates vary between insurers, though, so it’s important to compare car insurance quotes from multiple companies to find the best rate.

Quick Facts
  • Mile Auto, Sun Coast, and Mercury are the cheapest car insurance companies for Anaheim residents.

  • California is an at-fault state for car insurance.

  • Insurers in California can’t use your credit score when determining your rates.

  • Our editorial team spent 350 hours developing the Insurify Quality (IQ) Score and scoring insurance companies. The IQ Score objectively analyzes and calculates a score for insurers using more than 15 crucial criteria. Criteria are weighted by importance to the consumer — factors such as customer reviews and affordability influence the score more than availability and third-party ratings.

We rate each company on a 1 to 5 scale based on five categories: financial ratings, customer satisfaction, affordability, customer support and transparency, and availability. We update ratings once a year or as more recent information becomes available.

    • Third-party financial ratings: We use data from AM Best, S&P, Moody's, and more to compare insurance companies’ credit and ability to pay out future claims.
    • Customer satisfaction: To calculate this score, Insurify analyzed more than 20,000 customer reviews across 155 car insurance companies. We also considered third-party ratings from J.D. Power, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, and Trustpilot.
    • Affordability: Our data scientists analyzed more than 90 million real-time auto insurance rates from our partners across the United States, as well as available discounts, to calculate an affordability score.
    • Customer support and transparency: This measures coverage options, ease of claims filing, and the insurer's transparency surrounding discounts, coverages, and claims process.
    • Availability and reach: Insurify identified the number of states in which insurers offer coverage and company size by market share to score availability and reach.

I had full coverage, but then there was a $400 hike per year. I switched to State Law which was $200 lower. I sent a check for $146.00 for renewal, but they claimed it arrived 2 days late. Was it due to snail mail? I think they're lying. The new policy is $600 more per year. Now, I have no insurance. I've had this poor service since I was 16. I might just go without insurance because I no longer care.

My insurance increased from $459 to $788, and then to $888 this year for a 6-month period. What bothered me most was the lack of communication from Travelers. I understand that all insurance companies are for profit, but they should be respectful to their customers. I'm starting to think that all insurance is a scam.

How to get the cheapest car insurance in Anaheim

Insurers consider a variety of factors when setting your insurance rates, including your age, driving record, and location. Each company weighs these factors differently, so you’ll need to shop around to find the cheapest car insurance in Anaheim. Here are few tips you can use to find the most affordable option for your unique situation:

  • Apply for discounts. Auto insurance companies usually offer various discounts that can help you save money on an auto policy, such as good student and defensive driver discounts.

  • Bundle your home and auto insurance policies. If you bundle your car insurance with homeowners, renters, or even life insurance, you could land a discount on your coverage.

  • Select a higher deductible. A higher deductible means a lower premium. But be sure you can afford to pay it out of pocket if you need to file a claim.

  • Maintain a clean driving record. Drivers with clean records pay the cheapest premiums. Drive responsibly and avoid traffic violations.

  • Shop around. Compare quotes from at least three car insurance companies before buying a policy. Insurance companies weigh factors differently, so you may find cheaper rates for the same coverage from certain companies.

Methodology

Insurify data scientists analyzed more than 90 million quotes served to car insurance applicants in Insurify’s proprietary database to calculate the premium averages displayed on this page. These premiums are real quotes that come directly from Insurify’s 50+ partner insurance companies in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. Quote averages represent the median price for a quote across the given coverage level, driver subset, and geographic area.

Unless otherwise specified, quoted rates reflect the average cost for drivers between 20 and 70 years old with a clean driving record and average or better credit (a credit score of 600 or higher).

Liability-only premium averages correspond to policies with the following coverage limits:

  • Bodily injury limits between state-minimum rates and $50,000 per person, $100,000 per accident
  • Property damage limits between $10,000 and $50,000
  • No additional coverage
Full-coverage premium averages correspond to the same bodily injury and property damage limits in addition to:
  • Comprehensive coverage with a $1,000 deductible
  • Collision coverage with a $1,000 deductible

Quotes for Allstate, Farmers, GEICO, State Farm, and USAA are estimates based on Quadrant Information Services’ database of auto insurance rates.
