Drivers in Anaheim pay an average of $156 per month for car insurance. The city’s rates are slightly lower than California’s average of $141 and well below the national average of $136 per month.

Anaheim has a smaller population than other major California cities, including Los Angeles and San Diego.[1] But it’s home to Disneyland, which saw an estimated 16.8 million visitors in 2022.[2] The presence of tourists increases accident risks, which may contribute to Anaheim’s slightly higher rates.

Rates vary between insurers, though, so it’s important to compare car insurance quotes from multiple companies to find the best rate.

Quick Facts
  • USAA, National General, and Sun Coast are the cheapest car insurance companies for Anaheim residents.

  • California is an at-fault state for car insurance.

  • Insurers in California can’t use your credit score when determining your rates.

Cheapest car insurance companies in Anaheim

Car insurance costs vary based on your insurer, driving record, coverage needs, and various other factors. A company that provides low-price coverage for one motorist with a specific driving profile may not offer a low rate for another driver.

It’s always best to shop around on your own or with the help of an independent insurance agent and compare options to find the best auto insurance company in each situation. To help you get started, here are some companies offering low-cost coverage for Anaheim drivers.

  • Our editorial team spent more than 350 hours developing the Insurify Quality (IQ) Score and scoring insurance companies. The IQ Score objectively analyzes and calculates a score for insurers using more than 15 crucial criteria. The team weighted criteria by importance to the consumer — factors such as customer reviews and affordability influence the score more than availability and third-party ratings.

We rate each company on a 1 to 10 scale based on five categories: financial ratings, customer satisfaction, affordability, customer support and transparency, and availability. Insurify updates ratings once a year or as more recent information becomes available.

    • Third-party financial ratings: Insurify uses data from AM Best, S&P, Moody’s, and more to compare insurance companies’ credit and ability to pay out future claims.
    • Customer satisfaction: To calculate this score, Insurify analyzed more than 55,000 customer reviews across 155 car insurance companies. We also consider third-party ratings from J.D. Power, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, and Trustpilot.
    • Affordability: Our data scientists analyzed more than 90 million real-time auto insurance rates from our partners across the U.S., as well as available discounts, to calculate an affordability score.
    • Customer support and transparency: This measures coverage options, ease of claims filing, and the insurer's transparency surrounding discounts, coverages, and claims process.
    • Availability and reach: Insurify scores availability and reach by identifying the number of states in which insurers offer coverage and company size by market share.

My Experience with Mercury Insurance
Reviewed in California on February 1, 2026
My experience with Mercury is excellent. I have had the same agent ever since I first signed up with them, I believe, in the late 1990s. They have discounts I had never heard of and answer all questions immediately. My car is a 2016 Toyota Rav4 LE. I've always had full coverage, I drive very little, I bought it brand new, and I only have 37,389 miles on it, no tickets, no accidents, and no DUI ever. However, my insurance has doubled! I'm retired and live on Social Security. I can't afford insurance that used to be $645.76 per year in 2022, $908.76 per year in 2024, and $1,289.76 in 2025! My question is why is my insurance going up so much when I'm a good driver, have very low mileage, no accidents, and no tickets?

My car was in and out of two different shops for two months! I lost my $30/day car rental discount after the first month. I think that discount should be adjusted upwards. There are very few, if any, cars that I could have rented for $30 per day! During the in-and-out of the shop process in the second month, I was finally able to get a car rental for the last repair that was necessary after I expressed my frustration with their policy. The agent I worked with had to request the exemption through her supervisor, who did approve it eventually. My overall experience with this process was frustrating, and I would not recommend these particular agents to others.

How to get the cheapest car insurance in Anaheim

Insurers consider a variety of factors when setting your insurance rates, including your age, driving record, and location. Each company weighs these factors differently, so you’ll need to shop around to find the cheapest car insurance in Anaheim.

Here are some tips you can use to find the most affordable option for your unique situation:

  • Apply for discounts. Auto insurance companies usually offer various discounts that can help you save money, such as good student and defensive driver discounts.

  • Bundle your home and auto insurance policies. Bundling your car insurance with homeowners, renters, or even life insurance could land you a discount on coverage.

  • Select a higher deductible. A higher deductible means a lower premium. But be sure you can afford to pay it out of pocket if you need to file a claim.

  • Maintain a clean driving record. Drivers with clean records pay the cheapest premiums. Drive responsibly and avoid traffic violations.

  • Shop around. Compare quotes from at least three car insurance companies before buying a policy. Insurance companies weigh factors differently, so you may find cheaper rates for the same coverage from certain companies.

Cheapest car insurance for drivers with an incident

Drivers could see auto insurance rates increase after an incident. Incidents include speeding tickets, moving violations, at-fault accidents, driving under the influence, and lapses in insurance. Drivers with these incidents on their record appear high risk to an insurer and often face premium increases as a result.

You can still find affordable car insurance with blemishes on your driving record, though. Every insurer weighs driving factors differently, and some even specialize in coverage for drivers with incidents in their driving history. Below, you’ll find the most affordable insurers in Anaheim for drivers of varying driving histories.

Methodology

Insurify data scientists analyzed more than 190 million quotes served to car insurance applicants in Insurify’s proprietary database to calculate the premium averages displayed on this page. These premiums are real quotes that come directly from Insurify’s 500+ partner insurance companies in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. Quote averages represent the median price for a quote across the given coverage level, driver subset, and geographic area.

Unless otherwise specified, quoted rates reflect the average cost for drivers between 20 and 70 years old with a clean driving record and average or better credit (a credit score of 600 or higher).

Liability-only premium averages correspond to policies with the following coverage limits:

  • Bodily injury limits between state-minimum rates and $50,000 per person, $100,000 per accident
  • Property damage limits between $10,000 and $50,000
  • No additional coverage
Full-coverage premium averages correspond to the same bodily injury and property damage limits in addition to:
  • Comprehensive coverage with a $1,000 deductible
  • Collision coverage with a $1,000 deductible

Quotes for Allstate, Farmers, GEICO, State Farm, and USAA are estimates based on Quadrant Information Services’ database of auto insurance rates.
