Insurance Experience
It's good insurance, but I'm over 55, own my vehicle, and have been with them for many years, yet my policy has never gone down. It just steadily rises. I even drive less than 20 miles a day. It seems like you pay and pay and pay, and I never get anything out of it. Like with most insurance companies, you may never use it, and you've paid all this money. It's frustrating paying for something you don't get anything out of.

Getting too pricey
The experience has been good; the exception is the constant percentage increases. They are pricing me out of their services because I can purchase comparable coverage for less (and we are “bundled” with autos, home, and liability). I believe I will be changing my auto insurance as I find comparable coverage for $230/6 months for less.

Fortunately, COUNTRY Financial offers some of the lowest full-coverage rates for teen drivers in Georgia. And the insurer has agents in more than 100 Georgia cities, so you can find a local agent to help.

Pros
  • Some of the lowest full-coverage rates for teens in Georgia

  • Robust list of available discounts

  • New car replacement coverage available

Cons
  • Higher rates for drivers with poor credit

  • No accident forgiveness available

  • Doesn’t offer gap insurance

USAA - Not What It Is Made Out to Be
I was a victim of a hit and run. Due to the location of the damage, it was not discovered at the time it happened. When I submitted a claim for the issue, I found myself being questioned multiple times, seemingly to try to find cause to refuse my claim and not pay out. Then, upon review of my auto and home coverage, I found several key items of coverage completely missing or with an outrageous deductible.

How much is car insurance in Georgia?

On average, Georgians pay $1,882 per year for liability-only policies and $3,130 annually for full coverage, Insurify data shows. That’s significantly more than the national averages of $1,176 per year for minimum coverage and $2,233 for full coverage.

Multiple factors play into Georgia’s higher car insurance costs, including:

  • Risk of vehicle damage from severe weather: In 2024, Georgians filed approximately 16,800 vehicle claims due to flooding from Hurricane Helene. Georgia also faces risks of hail and flash flooding, and the state averages 25–40 tornadoes per year.

  • Traffic congestion in urban areas: Georgia has multiple cities with heavy traffic, including Atlanta, which ranks as the 16th-worst city in the world for traffic.[1] Traffic congestion increases accident risks.

  • Accident rates: Georgia has the fourth-highest number of traffic fatalities in the U.S.[2] But its fatality rates are comparatively low, at 1.28 per 100 million vehicle miles traveled.

  • Distracted driving, low seat belt use, and other risky driving behaviors: In 2023, more than half of all accidents in Georgia involved distracted driving. And approximately 12% of Georgia drivers and front-seat passengers don’t regularly use their seat belts.

Your individual factors will also affect your car insurance premiums. Insurers consider your driving record, age, gender, credit, and more when setting rates.

Disclaimer: Table data is based on real-time Georgia quotes from Insurify’s network of 500+ insurance partners. Actual rates may vary depending on the policyholder’s individual profile and coverage needs.

The most expensive areas for Georgia car insurance tend to be in or near large cities. For example, Lithonia has some of the highest rates for full coverage. It’s a small suburb of Atlanta that’s home to some affluent neighborhoods, where vehicles are likely to be newer.[3]

Why you should compare car insurance quotes in Georgia

Location is just one factor insurers consider when setting rates. They also look at your driving record, the vehicle, your age and gender, and more. Each insurance company has its own formula for weighing these factors, so you may find significantly different rates from multiple insurers.

Here’s how to compare quotes to find the cheapest Georgia car insurance that’s right for your needs:

    illustration card https://a.storyblok.com/f/162273/150x150/0f334ec089/insurify-icons-auto-blue-96x96_045-document.svg

    1. Decide your coverage needs

If you lease or finance your vehicle, you’ll need full coverage that includes comprehensive, collision coverage, and liability. You’ll need to choose coverage limits and deductible amounts too.

    illustration card https://a.storyblok.com/f/162273/150x150/059ca38826/car-sharing-96x96-green_005-driving-license.svg

    2. Gather your personal information

You’ll need driver’s license numbers, birth dates, and driving records for every driver in your household that you want to cover.

    illustration card https://a.storyblok.com/f/162273/150x150/aebd666d83/car-and-driving-96x96-orange_049-drive.svg

    3. Gather your vehicle information

Providing your VIN can help ensure you get the most accurate quotes that include discounts for vehicle safety features.

    4. Use an online comparison tool

Comparison platforms like Insurify, which is licensed to sell insurance in all 50 states and Washington, D.C., can help you get accurate quotes much faster than if you tried to gather them on your own.

    5. Start your new policy before you cancel your old one

Whether you buy your new policy online or with the help of an agent, you need to ensure it’s fully active before you cancel your old one. A lapse in coverage can make it difficult to get car insurance at good rates in the future.

Georgia car insurance requirements

Georgia requires all drivers to have at least a minimum amount of liability insurance. Here are the state’s required minimum coverages:

Coverage
sort ascsort desc
Minimum Limit
sort ascsort desc
Required?
sort ascsort desc
Bodily injury per person$25,000Required
Bodily injury per accident$50,000Required
Property damage liability$25,000Required
Medical payments coverage$2,000Optional. Insurers must include it in all policies, but you can opt out.
Uninsured motorist coverage

$25,000 bodily injury per person

$50,000 bodily injury per accident

$25,000 property damage

Optional. Insurers must include it in all policies, but you can opt out.

Georgia’s minimum liability requirements are on par with most other states. And while Georgia requires insurers to include medical payments and uninsured motorist coverages in every policy, you can reject the coverages by notifying your insurer in writing.

Medical payments coverage helps pay for your medical expenses. Uninsured motorist coverage can help pay for your injuries and property damage if you get in an accident with someone who doesn’t have insurance.

How to find the cheapest Georgia car insurance

Comparing quotes from multiple insurers is the best way to ensure you find the cheapest quotes available to you. But you can also take steps to improve your chances of qualifying for lower rates, including:

  • Improve your credit. The average credit score in Georgia is 695, which falls into the range of “good.”[4] If yours is average or lower, improving it could help you find lower car insurance rates. Insurers don’t look at your credit score, but they use the information in your credit file to generate a proprietary credit-based insurance score. Generally, the better your credit score is, the higher your credit-based insurance score will be.

  • Avoid distracted driving. In 2024, Georgia had more than 57,000 drivers convicted of distracted driving.[5] Driving history significantly affects your car insurance costs. Getting a ticket for distracted driving can push your rates up when your policy renews.

  • Choose a safe vehicle. The Honda Accord and Toyota Camry are the two most popular vehicles in Georgia, according to Insurify data. They’re also good choices for lower car insurance rates due to their safety ratings and relatively low repair costs. Before buying a vehicle, be sure to consider how much it will cost to insure.

Methodology

Insurify data scientists analyzed more than 190 million quotes served to car insurance applicants in Insurify’s proprietary database to calculate the premium averages displayed on this page. These premiums are real quotes that come directly from Insurify’s 500+ partner insurance companies in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. Quote averages represent the median price for a quote across the given coverage level, driver subset, and geographic area.

Unless otherwise specified, quoted rates reflect the average cost for drivers between 20 and 70 years old with a clean driving record and average or better credit (a credit score of 600 or higher).

Liability-only premium averages correspond to policies with the following coverage limits:

  • Bodily injury limits between state-minimum rates and $50,000 per person, $100,000 per accident
  • Property damage limits between $10,000 and $50,000
  • No additional coverage
Full-coverage premium averages correspond to the same bodily injury and property damage limits in addition to:
  • Comprehensive coverage with a $1,000 deductible
  • Collision coverage with a $1,000 deductible

Quotes for Allstate, Farmers, GEICO, State Farm, and USAA are estimates based on Quadrant Information Services’ database of auto insurance rates.
