They’re there when you need them.

The only complaints I have with State Farm are: (1) the premium costs, and (2) the spreading lawsuits that could endanger the company’s future.

I wasted a lot of time trying to get insurance as low as $38 a month, but I only got quotes for $100+ per month. My current insurer, State Farm, beat all of them by $20 a month or more. Right now I’m paying $85 per month with State Farm—unbeatable so far!

Always available. The cost of my insurance is fairly high, considering I don’t drive every day, and when I do, it’s less than 5 miles per day.

Get UM limits the same as your BI. Get enough PD to cover a $100k pickup truck. Get as much BI as they will sell you.

My experience has been great. I got State Farm back in 2025 and have loved the ease of use and accessibility it gives me as a newer-ish driver. I haven’t yet been able to fully take the road trips I want because I’m limited by an older vehicle and I’m newer to budgeting. My expectations have been exceeded by how easy technology makes it to maintain my plans and commitments. Most people around me are always thinking about how to save money, and I’m happy to share my story and positive experiences to hopefully help someone find their best fit.

State Farm has good service.

Did you know that if you have a claim, they can and will review your case and have the right to drop your coverage and refuse renewal? Yes, it’s true—you can be terminated for filing a claim.

Shop around—don’t buy the first insurance offer you see.

They just raise prices and make excuses when I was hit. They didn’t do anything to help—basically useless.

State Farm does not seem to care about the people they insure. They made a payout by accident for something that was not my fault, and my vehicle was damaged.

I've been with State Farm for home and auto insurance for years. I had a terrible experience with our former agent during the 2011 tornado. The home office sent two people from Jacksonville to help us out. I'm not sure who my new agent is.

The insurance is fine, but the fact that they keep raising my rates is not. They tell me everyone’s rates have gone up, which is supposed to satisfy me. I’m searching for new insurance right now.

I would say, "Don’t deal with the Jackson, CA office because they have the worst customer service and don’t credit payments upon receipt, so you get a late notice."

If you want to change your plan, add or remove someone or something, be prepared to call several times and get excuses every time you call.

Not good; it could be better. Insurance companies aren’t trying to lower your insurance for you. The more you pay, the better it is for them—that’s all they think about. If you shop for insurance every six months, you might get a better deal each time. That’s all I’ve got to say.

Forget going to an agent and go directly with the company. State Farm is not a bad company, but their independent agents are only there to make as much money as possible for themselves. Shop carefully, get the best price with the coverage you need, and try to stick with major companies—not one that’s here today and gone when you need them most.

Too expensive, and not great at covering claims.

I went to sign up for State Farm so I could set up automatic payments, but instead I found the form for uninsured motorists. I can’t get it to change to the policy I want, even though it’s right there on the screen. Then I tried to find where to set up auto pay, but it wants me to sign in and I don’t have a password.

Expensive and good, but you can’t submit a claim without worrying about cancellation.

First, I had to pick something above for claims, but I’ve never had a claim. Next, State Farm has raised rates so much it’s crazy. I drive under 100 miles a year, so no insurance is priced right for my habits. But I lease and need full insurance with high limits. I have an 850 FICO score, no claims in 20 years, and only one driver. I dropped State Farm for Progressive.

The local agent has no clue how the claims process works. If you call them, they just send you to the 800 number and don’t offer any help. We had one claim and ended up with four claim agents, and none of them talked to each other. One agent says one thing, and the next agent says that’s not how it works. It was a very confusing process.

It’s not so bad as long as you don’t have an accident or a problem where you need them. They’re like all the other ones—they don’t want to pay out anything to you or anyone. Big name, big advertising, little action. But that’s all insurance companies.

Don’t go to State Farm because their rates are high.
