I loved the ladies at the Pikeville, KY State Farm office. They were the best. They always talked to me and helped me with anything I needed that they could possibly do. I hated to switch because they were so nice, but I saved over $100 a month.

They might be cheaper, and they might act like they do a lot, but they don’t do anything when it comes down to the real thing.

Hassle. Another State Farm-insured driver dumped a grill onto my car at a stoplight, and it took them three months, several misleading statements, and multiple arguments to settle the claim. First, they filed me as at fault, then added another claim showing the other person was at fault. They acted like they had never dealt with a claim. Then they totaled my vehicle for a cheap price. Horrible service.

The local agent has no clue how the claims process works. If you call them, they just send you to the 800 number and don’t offer any help. We had one claim and ended up with four claim agents, and none of them talked to each other. One agent says one thing, and the next agent says that’s not how it works. It was a very confusing process.

It’s not so bad as long as you don’t have an accident or a problem where you need them. They’re like all the other ones—they don’t want to pay out anything to you or anyone. Big name, big advertising, little action. But that’s all insurance companies.

Don’t go to State Farm because their rates are high.

My auto insurance increased by over 100%, and I never missed a payment.

I didn’t mind it, but every year it went up $20 to $30 more. It’s now $85, and they want to increase it to $105. I’m on SSA and don’t make enough to pay everything if this goes up. Plus, I’m lucky to drive 1,000 miles in three months.

I’ve been with State Farm for years. They constantly change reps, and they don’t tell me anything. They’ve raised my rates without notifying me until I call them. Very unprofessional. There were two accidents that I feel were not my fault, but State Farm sided with the other driver. If your flashers are on and you’re backing up, why would a driver keep moving forward?

My insurance went up by $30.00. That stinks.

When a customer has been with them for more than five years, they still charge extra. I was charged for adding a POV, and there was an additional charge included for the policy I already have.

Most people are pleasant and helpful. However, there’s sometimes an attitude problem, and they don’t seem to double-check available discounts that may apply.

Bad customer service. They never answer their phone and don’t return calls. When they do call back, it’s 2–3 days after you leave a message. They won’t check whether you’re eligible for any discounts or help lower the cost of your insurance, and they don’t communicate with you.

If you file a claim, be ready to pay.

I had one minor accident in over 15 years. It caused $2,500 in damage to the car I hit, with no damage to my vehicle. I’ve never filed any home or auto claims, and I was told I can expect a $400 surcharge on my premium for a couple of years.

Neither bad nor good. Only in the last year have prices decreased, but home insurance went up drastically. State Farm should use the money spent on NFL advertising to lower insurance costs instead.

Go elsewhere. We were stopped at a red light and got sideswiped, with a witness in another car. We received a letter saying it was 75% our fault. Even though we were stopped at the red light and were hit on the driver’s side, they said it was 75% my grandson’s fault. We’re looking for another company.

My biggest complaint was the lack of communication between my agent and the claims department. An error occurred with my agent involving a form, and claims refused to back my agent up. This has resulted in a delay, and I’m still waiting for my payoff after my car was totaled. My rental car coverage has expired, and I’ll have to pay out of pocket, though I’ve been reassured my agent will reimburse me. The disagreement within the company is unsettling, and it has me waiting for my total loss payoff, which I needed for a down payment on another vehicle.

No tips. I would have continued, but the increase was too high for someone with my age and driving record. They obviously were no longer interested in keeping me as a client.

After 59 years with State Farm, they chose not to renew my homeowners insurance because of two claims in the last 4 1/2 years.

All insurance companies are the same. The only time you get a fair price is when you’re a new customer. Every six months, the price goes up and up. It doesn’t matter if you’re a loyal customer with a good record—they only care about profits. If you have a claim, they always look for a reason not to cover it.

Find a better insurer. Premiums are too high, and the service I received was subpar.

State Farm… I thought it was a shame that they increased my premium after a no-fault accident and then weren’t honest about how much it was going to increase. So I had to drop them, and I didn’t like the way they took care of my claim. I was rear-ended by an asphalt truck driver, and it took forever to get the rental car, took forever to get the payout, and I had to communicate with them multiple times. I’m sick of it and probably won’t ever go back to State Farm.

Get the best value for your money. I was a faithful customer, always paid on time, and was rewarded with two price increases in a year. Why should I pay more for the same service?

I barely drive my car due to gas prices. They say the reason for high insurance is that there are so many cars on the road, but I’m not on the road that much. My cost was $162.00 a month for full coverage. I removed some items from my coverage to bring the cost down, and the price is now $129.00.

I feel they’re quite expensive if you never need to file a claim. However, if you do have a claim, they’re pretty good at making things right.
