At the time of acquiring car insurance when I first moved to VA 2 years ago, they had the best price. They are very prompt in replying to any inquiries.

It took way too long for my car to come back to me, 5 weeks for a door scrape by a cement post.

The insurance company is only as good as your local agent. My agent has an office near my home, and I feel welcome to call or walk in at any time that I have a question. Service comes first, cost is also a consideration but must come second. The quality of employees is also a huge consideration, and each one that I've encountered in my local office is knowledgeable about the products and my coverage, and also patient and pleasant to do business with.

My only concern is the price -- I don't know if I am paying too much or not. Otherwise, I am very, very happy.

Expensive. The company has always been easy to work with. I'm not as thrilled with my current agent as I was with my former one. They were superb; unfortunately, they retired.

I have a 2020 Equinox with only 38,000 miles on it. Some months I don’t even drive 20 miles, so I believe my insurance could be cheaper. I also allow them to track my driving.

I speak with several girls in the office, but it seems they always end up having to speak with a woman who never wants to spend any time talking to me. She tells me things, and that’s it—no room for discussion. I ask about other options, discounts, etc., and she answers me—no, you have all the discounts. I barely drive my car, maybe like 25 miles a day (not even). I’m retired, so the car sits. I believe she always says that I’m discounted at the usual average mileage, but I don’t drive much anymore.

State Farm provided me with competitive rates, excellent customer service, and even checked on me from time to time. I have no issues.

Service was prompt and efficient. The only reason I’m looking for another insurance company is the cost.

They keep trying to raise my rate. If I wasn't keeping an eye on what they take from my bank, I would be paying hundreds a month instead of $130, and that's still too much for a 14-year-old car with liability only. But they won't budge off what they charge, and I know there are better deals. There have to be better options than what I'm paying. That's why I'm looking for something else to compare it to or change over to.

I was with State Farm for 40 years and, as a faithful customer, I was disappointed by the high prices I was paying. When I contacted my agent to inform them that I was switching to another company, they seemed indifferent and did not ask what they could do to keep me with State Farm. There was no reaction.

They have good customer service, a nice app, and handled my claim easily. However, they are way overpriced.

I am a 67-year-old woman with no tickets, no DUI, no accidents, and still, I was charged $218.26 for a year. They don't help senior citizens at all, just like anyone else.

Based on my experience, State Farm practices a loss leader approach to get your business. They started me out with a low competitive rate to get my business and then hiked it up dramatically for no reason. I’m retired, I drive 10 or 15 miles a week, and I’ve had no violations, accidents, or anything else, and they raised my rate by 30%.

When you have a claim, they raise your insurance tremendously.

Mediocre. Everyone strives to provide subpar coverage for the most expensive premium. They won't take their time to customize the policy based on your needs (state mandates) and budget.

Check out other carriers and compare. Do this often. State Farm has always been a good insurer, but in recent years they seem to be having problems. They pulled out of Florida and seem to be having problems keeping the customer base they had developed. I hope they find their way to become a great company again.

High price, renewal went up $500.

I have had State Farm for about 30 years. This past January, we had an ice storm where trees fell on the house and on three vehicles. They would not cover anything on the claim I filed. I would not recommend them to anybody.

You can be with State Farm for 15 years for cars and home insurance, but when you have a claim, you will get 15 numbers and 15 people to deal with. Parts that are obviously damaged are not quoted, and you start with back and forth emails.

Watch their varying charges that change monthly. Some months I paid $255 and some months I paid $207 depending on their drive safe tracker use.

We have full coverage. They wouldn't pay for any repairs due to hail damage. The windshield was completely shattered and 4 out of the 5 lights were broken. They said it was totaled. We only bought the van 2 months ago. This company is disappointing.

I’ve been with State Farm for about 25 years. I have had no tickets or accidents, and never a DUI. In the last three years, my rates doubled, then dropped $40, then went back up $40. I feel that their rates, or maybe it’s just the agent I had, are way out of control. I canceled with them and went to another insurance company for $80 less per month and have better coverage.

State Farm has become expensive over the years. Even though my policy became cheaper, they canceled it by not renewing for the next quarterly cycle because they couldn't verify another driver on the policy for underwriting. However, the person doesn't own the vehicle—I do—so there was no reason to cancel me. Anyway, I was involved in a hit-and-run by another driver recently, and State Farm didn't give me a discount on the deductible. I also had to pay taxes on the rental car I had for a few days. So, I am through with them.

Be wary when making changes because the price you're quoted may not be accurate. When you ask, you'll hear it's because of changes that were made. It's frustrating. If you email a certain party at State Farm, you might be lucky if you hear back from that person. From what I was told, anyone can respond to an email even if it's not addressed to them. I asked to speak to Chase, but I guess he wasn't allowed to speak for himself. The increase was supposed to continue for three months. The price quoted was $120, but I was billed $193, and I was supposed to pay that for three months for a six-month policy. Does that make sense to you? Ask questions and then ask other companies. I was happy with State Farm until I went from liability to full coverage and Chase wouldn't contact me back. I think Kimmie took care of it and that increase.

Rates rise as you grow older, not the way insurance should be. Good drivers should be rewarded, not punished for the faults of others.

No personal contact. Customer service is fair. Good insurance coverage. Too expensive. You have to understand the "insurance" business and determine what coverage you need on your own. When my wife had an accident, which was completely unexpected, the insurance company took their time to pick up the vehicle from the tow yard and take it to the shop for assessment. It took a total of a month before they claimed it as totaled. I was $6,000 in the hole, and mind you, the car was maybe a year old, practically new. Thank God I had gap insurance.

I have asked this company for discounts and to give me a price that reflects my actual coverage needs. Yet pricing remains at a premium that they say they can't change. I have a perfect driving record with no accidents in my entire lifetime of driving and no tickets either. I want the cheapest coverage mandated by law for liability. I own my vehicle, and it is 35 years old but has been rebuilt from the ground up. It's just like new.

Better than my experience with State Farm adjuster’s response to my only accident.

Overall good service over the last five years. I also had a small business liability policy. Never any claims, but they suddenly decided that they will not insure my sound and light reinforcement company. It's unfortunate that they are going to lose a good paying customer. I will take all my coverage elsewhere.

State Farm is expensive for what they offer. For my 1966 truck, they wanted more per month than for my 2015 Ford Escape. I found a better deal for a year than their one-month premium.

Don't use State Farm as they charge high rates for senior citizens and disabled veterans.

I find it very difficult to deal with the claims department and it's not easy to get a hold of them. When you do, you're on hold for a long time. The people at my main branch are helpful and nice. The value for the money is pricey.

It's terrible. I was told one rate when I signed up for the policy, and now they're charging me almost $200 more a month since the second month I've had them for my auto insurance.

Horrible experience with claims. Every step was delayed by 2 to 3 days. They allowed my vehicle to stay at a tow yard until the very last day that storage fees would be covered, and the only reason I was able to catch it was because I called them myself. My claims representative told me it would only take two to three days for her to get back to me, but it actually took her a little over a week, and I had to call her myself to hear anything. My claims representative also didn’t send me everything I needed to receive my settlement and never tried to follow up with me. I had to call her, and then she tried to make it seem like I never sent it on my end when it was actually her fault. I’m very frustrated and disappointed with this whole experience. I understand there can be delays in the process, but please don’t tell me something’s going to be done by a certain time if you already know there’s going to be a delay. As soon as this claim is processed, I will be getting new car insurance.
