Is Auto-Owners A Good Insurance Company? Reviews From Over 362 Customers

They keep raising prices.

We had no problem with Auto-Owners regarding our auto insurance. However, we were disappointed when Auto-Owners cancelled our home insurance. They stopped all home insurance in 'fire prone areas'.

My experience with Auto-Owners has been good. My experience with the agent, Powers Agency, has been more than excellent.

My agent explained all my options, knew what I wanted and found a great deal for me! Awesome experience and service!

I had them for only 6 months. I went from paying $162 to $638. I added a new car and a new driver. I understood there would be an increase, but not such a big one.

If you have extremely low mileage vehicles (like show cars), do not put them on the Auto-Owners policy. There are specialty insurers that offer much better pricing/value for these types of vehicles.

I've checked out different quotes and the prices are not far off from what I've been paying, so I'm going to stay with them.

They have kept my rates pretty much the same for the last 3 years. The first few years they jumped up some, but I'm still paying less than $95 a month. There's a 15 to 20% discount for paying yearly or every 6 months instead of a monthly rate.

Their staff is always friendly and answers all my questions. I might stay with them, but I'm currently researching other options because my rates are high. I understand that my payments increased since I've had two accidents since December 19, 2016. Thankfully, no one was hurt in either accident. The first accident resulted in damages under $9,000 to both vehicles, and it was my only accident in 73 years. The second accident only involved me. Auto-Owners totaled my vehicle and paid me damages of $6206.80. I understand why my rates would increase, but I didn't expect them to be as high as they are, so I thought I'd shop around.

Auto Owners is a good insurance company. I just need something a little cheaper.

I was dropped for two minor at-fault accidents in over two years.

They did not provide me with enough money to cover the purchase of a vehicle similar to mine. Due to the increasing prices of used vehicles, I had to buy a vehicle that was five years older than my previous one. Despite not receiving a ticket, they increased my car insurance by several hundred dollars per year. I'm 62 and have never had any tickets or accidents before. No other vehicle was involved.

My insurance company failed to check for better prices.

They get a 3 for price and ease of use of their website. However, they don't receive any stars for anything else.

The agent wouldn't cancel a vehicle's coverage after a divorce, even with a lawyer's directive.

Regina, my agent, has been great. However, incorrect information was entered by Nexusis, which wrongly impacted my driving record. Additionally, Auto Owners' rates are increasing dramatically. I am also being double invoiced for a policy that is already paid through December 14, 2019. I'm unsure about what's happening with Auto-Owners or Clinard Insurance Agency. Despite these issues, I appreciate the personal service from my agent, Regina, who has always been helpful with my insurance.

Too difficult to deal with for claims. They charged my wife as responsible for an accident in a parking lot when her car was struck from behind. My car was totaled in another accident where I was rear-ended on an exit by a truck, which pushed me into a van. AO hired an appraiser to get the value of my vehicle and then arbitrarily and unilaterally reduced the value given. I had been warned this would happen by another insured.

The claim process has been a disaster!

They won't try to work with customers, it's all or nothing.

The claims adjuster is one issue. Most of the time, you can't get a hold of anyone at my agent's office.
