At Insurify, our goal is to help customers compare insurance products and find the best policy for them. We strive to provide open, honest, and unbiased information about the insurance products and services we review. Our hard-working team of data analysts, insurance experts, insurance agents, editors and writers, has put in thousands of hours of research to create the content found on our site.
We do receive compensation when a sale or referral occurs from many of the insurance providers and marketing partners on our site. That may impact which products we display and where they appear on our site. But it does not influence our meticulously researched editorial content, what we write about, or any reviews or recommendations we may make. We do not guarantee favorable reviews or any coverage at all in exchange for compensation.

The price of the insurance isn't bad, but they're horrible at communicating about a claim. They dragged their feet on my claim. I had to send numerous emails and make a few phone calls just to get my car paid off. It took 25 days when I was told it would take 10 to 15 days max.

How to get the cheapest car insurance in Pennsylvania
Finding car insurance that fits into your budget is essential, but a cheap policy doesn’t always equal quality coverage. You should choose an insurer with solid industry rankings and a good track record of quality customer service.
The following tips can help you find a reputable car insurance company at the best price:[3]
Shop around. You should compare quotes from at least three insurers to find the coverage you need at an affordable price.
Increase your deductible. Choosing a higher deductible can help you lower your premiums. Make sure you can pay the deductible if you need to file a claim.
Add discounts. You should always take advantage of discounts related to your driving history, vehicle safety features, membership with certain organizations, and more.
Maintain good credit. Insurers can use your credit-based insurance score to determine how likely you are to file a claim. Improve or maintain your credit score to qualify for better premiums on your insurance policy.
Drive a safe vehicle. Insuring a car with safety features, like anti-lock brakes, can lower your premiums and qualify you for policy discounts.
Low-cost car insurance in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania doesn’t have a financial assistance program to provide low-income drivers with low-cost car insurance.
If you’re on a budget and looking for low-cost car insurance in Pennsylvania, you should consider getting quotes from multiple car insurance companies to find the most affordable option. Car insurance rates vary from company to company, and an insurer that previously held the cheapest rates may no longer have the best deal available.
Cheapest liability-only car insurance quotes in Pennsylvania: State Farm
A liability-only policy covers bodily injury and property damage to other parties when you’re at fault in an accident. While this is the most cost-effective option, it doesn’t provide coverage for your medical expenses and vehicle damage. You may have to pay out of pocket for your own vehicle repairs if you cause an accident and you don’t have full-coverage car insurance.[4] And, if the damages or injuries you cause cost more than your policy limits, you may be on the hook to pay the difference.
Liability-only insurance in Pennsylvania costs $94 per month, on average. Check out the chart below to find Pennsylvania’s most cost-effective liability-only car insurance.
10 Cheapest Liability-Only Insurance Companies
Cheapest full-coverage car insurance quotes in Pennsylvania: Mile Auto
A full-coverage policy pays for your vehicle repairs, even if you cause an accident. This type of policy includes liability, comprehensive, and collision coverages. Frequent or high-risk drivers — and people with expensive vehicles — should consider a full-coverage policy. If you have a loan or a lease on your car, most lenders require you to purchase full coverage.
“Having adequate coverage ensures that you and other drivers will be protected in the case of an accident, regardless of who was at fault,” says Kyle Pearman, agency owner of the Atherton Group in Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania drivers pay an average of $173 per month for a full-coverage policy.
Full coverage typically costs more than a liability-only policy, but you can still find coverage at a competitive price. Find the most affordable insurers for full-coverage policies in Pennsylvania below.

Your age is one of the biggest factors that influences your car insurance rates. Teen drivers pay the highest rates because they don’t have much driving experience. Rates typically decrease for drivers around age 25, but they go up again around age 70 because senior drivers may have decreased vision and slower reaction times, which increases their risk of an accident.
The table below shows average liability-only and full-coverage insurance costs for Pennsylvania drivers in various age groups.

Car insurance requirements in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania is a no-fault state, which means that insurers must cover their policyholders’ medical bills related to an accident, regardless of fault.
In Pennsylvania, you must carry a minimum amount of liability insurance, as well as medical benefits coverage through personal injury protection (PIP) or medical payments (MedPay) coverage. PIP pays for a broad range of medical expenses after a car accident, such as lost wages and rehabilitation costs. MedPay covers medical expenses and funeral costs.
These are the minimum coverage requirements in Pennsylvania:[5]
Coverage ▲▼ | Minimum Requirements ▲▼ |
---|---|
Bodily injury liability | $15,000 per person / $30,000 per accident |
Property damage liability | $5,000 per accident |
Medical benefits | $5,000 |
You may decide to purchase more than the state’s minimum coverage for more protection. Consider the following optional coverages:
Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage
If the at-fault party doesn’t have enough insurance to cover your medical expenses or vehicle repairs, this insurance fills coverage gaps. Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage can also pay for damages from a hit-and-run accident.
Comprehensive coverage
After a non-collision event, like weather, theft, or vandalism, causes vehicle damage, comprehensive insurance pays for repairs.
Collision coverage
Collision insurance kicks in after a collision with another vehicle or object, even if you caused it.
Gap coverage
Gap insurance, also known as guaranteed asset protection, can help pay off your car loan if an accident totals your car (or someone steals it) and you owe more on your loan than your insurance company pays.
Accident forgiveness coverage
Some insurance companies offer accident forgiveness coverage, which guarantees your premium won’t increase after your first at-fault accident. Depending on the insurance company, accident forgiveness may be a free add-on, or you may have to pay extra for it.
Roadside assistance coverage
Many insurers offer roadside assistance coverage as an add-on that connects you with a professional towing or repair service when your car breaks down. The service can typically send someone to help with issues like a flat tire, dead battery, or lost keys.
Cheapest car insurance companies in Pennsylvania by driving record
Driving incidents include at-fault accidents, speeding tickets, DUIs, and other moving violations. If you have an incident on your motor record, your probability of having another is higher than someone with a clean record. Therefore, your risk profile increases, and your insurer may charge you more for an auto policy.
Drivers with a clean record typically pay the lowest premiums.[6]

Methodology
Insurify data scientists analyzed more than 90 million quotes served to car insurance applicants in Insurify’s proprietary database to calculate the premium averages displayed on this page. These premiums are real quotes that come directly from Insurify’s 50+ partner insurance companies in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. Quote averages represent the median price for a quote across the given coverage level, driver subset, and geographic area.
Unless otherwise specified, quoted rates reflect the average cost for drivers between 20 and 70 years old with a clean driving record and average or better credit (a credit score of 600 or higher).
Liability-only premium averages correspond to policies with the following coverage limits:
- Bodily injury limits between state-minimum rates and $50,000 per person, $100,000 per accident
- Property damage limits between $10,000 and $50,000
- No additional coverage
- Comprehensive coverage with a $1,000 deductible
- Collision coverage with a $1,000 deductible
Quotes for Allstate, Farmers, GEICO, State Farm, and USAA are estimates based on Quadrant Information Services’ database of auto insurance rates.
