Shelter provides a variety of standard home and mobile home insurance coverages and a handful of additional coverages to protect everything under your roof.

Available coverages and discounts may vary by state, but will most likely include:

  • Dwelling: Covers private residences and attached structures. It will also cover outdoor equipment permanently attached to your home and used to service your residence and its premises such as:

    • heating and cooling systems

    • water heating systems

    • water softeners

    • on-site construction material

    • working outdoor antennas/reception dishes

  • Other Structures: Covers repairs or replacement of structures detached from your home such as sheds and fences.

  • Property Damage Liability: Covers repair or replacement costs for damage you caused to someone’s property, like their fence or mailbox.

  • Roadside Assistance: Covers labor and towing up to $100, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • New Car Replacement: Will replace your brand new car with one of the same make, model, and year.

Optional car insurance coverages include:

  • Collision: Covers repair or replacement costs for your vehicle due to an accident, whether you were at fault or not. If your car is leased or financed this coverage is required.

  • Comprehensive: Covers repair or replacement cost for your vehicle due to something other than a collision like a fire, theft, flood, hail, and falling objects.

  • Accidental Death: Provides payment if you or your spouse dies as a result of a car accident or being struck by a car.

  • Disability Income Coverage: Provides a weekly stipend for a maximum of 1 year if you are injured in a car accident and cannot return to work.

Business Auto Insurance through Shelter includes all the same coverages as their personal auto line and a few extra protection specific for commercial vehicles. Companies that use cars, SUVs, light trucks, or vans for business purposes can add the following coverages:

  • Added Paint and Equipment: Covers damage to paint and equipment.

  • Disability Income: Provides a weekly income stipend for up to 1 year if you’re disabled and unable to work after a car accident. Coverage only applies if you were driving or hit by a vehicle.

  • Emergency Road Service Reimbursement: Get reimbursed when you use any roadside assistance provider.

  • Rental Reimbursement: Covers the cost of transportation while your car is being repaired.

Shelter provides a variety of permanent, term life, and junior special life insurance policies.

Permanent Life Insurance: Permanent life insurance provides protection throughout your lifetime and comes in two forms whole life insurance and universal life insurance. Permanent life insurance provides death benefits to your loved ones if you were to die. However, their cash value can also be withdrawn from in order to pay for things like tuition or a down payment on a house.

  • Secure Whole Life Insurance

  • Whole Life Insurance: Provides the most cash value over the term

  • 20-Pay Whole Life Insurance: Policy is paid up in 20 years

  • Universal Life Insurance: Increase or decrease your premiums as circumstances change and keep your death benefit level or have it increase as cash value grows.



Term Life Insurance: Term life insurance is purchased to provide protection for you and your family for 10, 20, or 30 years. Shelter’s different kinds of term life insurance include:

  • EZ Term® Life Insurance: This policy is recommended for younger individuals with limited budgets. This protection will cover $50,000 until the age of 40 for student loans, funeral costs, credit card debt, and more.

  • Level Term Life Insurance: This affordable coverage is recommended for young families who typically have a mortgage, taxes, daily living expenses, credit card debt, and other types of expenses related to starting a family. This coverage comes with a $100,000 death benefit and can last 10, 20, or 30 years.

  • Yearly Renewable Term Life Insurance: This coverage is designed for those who have special family or business needs. It includes automatic renewal of your policy until you turn 85 years old, and then the option to convert it to a permanent life insurance policy.

  • Shelter Express Term® Life Insurance: Provides term life insurance without a physical examif you’re between the ages of 18 and 60. This coverage provides $50,000, $75,000 or $100,000 amounts until the age of 100.



Junior Special Insurance: Helps your child get a lower premium rate and will guarantee life insurance coverage for them as adults even if they develop health issues during childhood. This policy can be purchased for children or grandchildren under the age of 17.

This policy will cover up to $20,000 until the age of 26 with a one-time premium payment. After age 26 it can be converted into a permanent policy.

Shelter’s flood insurance provides coverage for the structure of your home or business and the possessions within it. Flood insurance is available to homeowners, renters, and business owners.

Available coverages and discounts may vary by state, but will most likely include:

    • The insured building and its foundation.

    • The electrical and plumbing systems.

    • Central air conditioning equipment, furnaces, and water heaters.

    • Refrigerators, cooking stoves, and built-in appliances such as dishwashers.

    • Permanently installed paneling, wallboard, bookcases, and cabinets.

    • Window blinds.

    • Detached garages (up to 10 percent of building property coverage).

    • Detached buildings (other than garages) require a separate building property policy.

  • Personal property coverage:

    • Personal belongings such as clothing, furniture, and electronic equipment.

    • Curtains.

    • Portable and window air conditioners.

    • Portable microwave ovens and portable dishwashers.

Shelter’s umbrella insurance provides additional coverage of $1,000,000 or more  to further protect your assets when your typical policies aren’t enough.

When the policy limits of your car or home insurance have been reached after an accident, your umbrella policy limits will kick in.

An umbrella policy can also protect you from more than your basic insurance policies including:

  • False arrest

  • Wrongful detention
