USAA Critique

High exposure in the South and East leads to higher premiums. They do have a SafePilot program, which I use. They also have a cashback program, which I use.

Don't let them hook you

Don't renew with USAA the first year. Go to another company for the first 6 months after your USAA policy expires. Then, when that one expires, check back with USAA for the following 6-month period. USAA will give a better rate when you come back than they would have if you had stayed with them all along.

The Old Bait and Switch

There's no flexibility, and if you miss your first payment by a day, they will cancel your policy. Then, they make you get a new quote and double the price for half the coverage. It's unbelievable that they treat veterans and their families like that.

I wouldn't recommend them because they keep raising rates with every birthday. My car used to cost around $300 every 6 months, now it is over $500 in just 4 years. No claims have been made and no tickets or DUIs, just rate increases.

How to get the cheapest car insurance in Missouri

If you want to find the cheapest car insurance in Missouri, it can help to understand how insurers calculate your insurance premiums. Insurance companies look at factors including your age, gender, location, the type of car you drive, how often you drive, and the type of insurance you want.

To keep your insurance premiums as low as possible, consider the following tips:

  • Increase your deductible. Your deductible is the amount of money you pay before your insurance pays out on a claim. Agreeing to pay a higher deductible can reduce your premiums substantially.

  • Bundle your insurance. Purchasing multiple insurance products from the same company, such as home insurance and auto insurance, can result in a discounted rate.

  • Compare insurance companies. Car insurance prices can vary widely between companies. It’s a good idea to compare several insurance companies to find the one that fits your needs and budget.

Low-cost car insurance in Missouri

Missouri doesn’t have a program to help low-income drivers find affordable car insurance. But if you’re looking to lower your car insurance costs, consider shopping around for car insurance quotes every six months to make sure you’re always getting the best deal.

Every U.S. state except New Hampshire requires car owners to carry liability-only car insurance. This coverage is composed of bodily injury and property damage liability. Bodily injury insurance covers the costs of the other driver’s medical bills if you cause an accident. Property damage liability covers the cost of any damage you cause to property, such as a fence or light pole.

Full-coverage auto insurance costs an average of $189 per month in Missouri. Check out the table below for the cheapest full-coverage car insurance companies in Missouri.

Car insurance requirements in Missouri

Missouri state law requires all vehicle owners and operators to carry liability insurance. Liability insurance covers your legal liabilities if you injure another driver or damage their property in an at-fault accident.

If you’re caught without the required minimum coverage, you could face license suspension and fees. If you get in an accident and don’t pay damages, you risk losing your license for one year.[1]

Cheapest car insurance companies for drivers in Missouri with an incident

An incident includes speeding tickets, driving under the influence (DUI), at-fault accidents, or other moving violations. When car insurers calculate your insurance premiums, they’re trying to determine how high of a risk it is to insure you. Having a driving record with multiple incidents demonstrates a higher level of risk and typically results in more expensive insurance.

Cheapest car insurance quotes for drivers with a speeding ticket: USAA

Speeding can affect your safety as well as other drivers. Speeding increases the potential for you to lose control of your vehicle and is a contributing factor to traffic fatalities. Since insurers view speeding as an increased risk, it can also result in higher insurance premiums.

Missouri uses a points system when you’re convicted of a traffic violation. If you’re caught speeding, you can receive up to three points against your license. Accumulating eight or more points in an 18-month period can result in the suspension of your driving privileges.

The average cost of car insurance for drivers with a speeding ticket in Missouri is $233 per month for full coverage and $118 for liability only.

Cheapest car insurance quotes for seniors: USAA

Age is one of the variables insurers use to determine your insurance premiums. While insurance is high among young drivers, premiums tend to decrease for drivers older than 25.

Drivers 55 years and older often experience reduced insurance costs. This is attributed to driving less, having safer driving behaviors, and taking advantage of age-related discounts.[2]

Then, around age 70, the cost of insurance starts to increase again. One reason is that drivers 70 and older have higher fatal crash rates largely due to their increased vulnerability in a crash.

The average monthly cost of car insurance for senior drivers in Missouri is $154 for full coverage and $78 for liability only.

The table below highlights the insurance companies in Missouri offering car insurance for seniors.

Cheapest car insurance quotes for teens: USAA

Teen drivers present the highest risk to insurance companies, with a fatal crash rate almost three times as high as drivers age 20 and older. A combination of factors, including inexperience, distracted driving, and speeding, contribute to teen drivers’ higher levels of risk.

The average cost of car insurance for teen drivers in Missouri is $363 per month for full-coverage car insurance and $184 for liability only.

To reduce the amount you pay for insurance as a teen driver, consider the following tips:

  • Stay on your parents’ insurance plan. It’s generally cheaper to join your parents’ insurance plan than to purchase one on your own.

  • Look for teen driver discounts. Many insurance companies offer discounts to teen drivers, such as good student discounts for teens who maintain a certain average, as well as discounts for teens who take driver training courses.

  • Drive a safe car. The type of car you drive can also affect your insurance premiums. Cars with high-quality safety equipment might help you qualify for cheaper insurance.

The table below highlights Missouri insurance companies offering the cheapest car insurance for teenagers.

Methodology

Insurify data scientists analyzed more than 90 million quotes served to car insurance applicants in Insurify’s proprietary database to calculate the premium averages displayed on this page. These premiums are real quotes that come directly from Insurify’s 500+ partner insurance companies in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. Quote averages represent the median price for a quote across the given coverage level, driver subset, and geographic area.

Unless otherwise specified, quoted rates reflect the average cost for drivers between 20 and 70 years old with a clean driving record and average or better credit (a credit score of 600 or higher).

Liability-only premium averages correspond to policies with the following coverage limits:

  • Bodily injury limits between state-minimum rates and $50,000 per person, $100,000 per accident
  • Property damage limits between $10,000 and $50,000
  • No additional coverage
Full-coverage premium averages correspond to the same bodily injury and property damage limits in addition to:
  • Comprehensive coverage with a $1,000 deductible
  • Collision coverage with a $1,000 deductible

Quotes for Allstate, Farmers, GEICO, State Farm, and USAA are estimates based on Quadrant Information Services’ database of auto insurance rates.
