How Often Will Safe Auto Increase My Premiums
The quote you get online should be close to the premium you will pay—if you’ve been honest answering all of their questions. Your actual premium will be set after your driving record, and other details have been reviewed. First Notice of Loss
First, to begin a claim, call 1 (800) 723-3288 to report it. This is referred to in Safe Auto terms as the First Notice of Loss (FNOL) Be sure to have the following information on hand when reporting your claim:
- Date, time, and location of the accident
- Year, make, and model of the involved vehicles
- Names, addresses, and phone numbers of all associated drivers and passengers including information about anyone who is injured
- Insurance information of the other parties involved (as much as you can get)
- A description of the accident including how it occurred
Safe Auto’s “Report a Claim” page also has some useful advice in dealing with filing the claim with the police and the other party’s company.
After you’ve made a claim, the claim moves into “Investigation” mode.
In this phase, Safe Auto deploys an adjuster to investigate the facts of the claim. They do this by looking through any police reports (that’s why it’s essential to file one), talking to anyone and everyone involved in the accident, and conversing with field adjusters and appraisers. All of this is done to be sure they have an excellent understanding of fault, injury, and damage.
Finally. When is this thing gonna get done? “Resolution” means we are that much closer to getting this thing over with and back on the road, right? Yes, but…a resolution could mean a lot of different things, so depending on the exact outcome, you could be waiting anywhere from a few weeks to a month or even a year (if it goes to litigation). Here are the different ways things could go down in the end:
- Your car is repaired. In this case, Safe Auto allows you to repair your vehicle at the shop of your choice.
- Your car is deemed a total loss. Ouch! If this happens, Safe Auto pays you the fair market value of your vehicle less any deductibles that might apply. Now you’ve got to find a new ride.
- You get a check in the mail. Resolution could include a payment to you, depending on the way your policy is written.
- Your case goes to court. You’ll likely be contacted by an outside party, not Safe Auto, if your case moves to litigation. If this is the case, you’ll provide Safe Auto with any communication you receive, and they’ll help lead you through the litigation process from there.
How long will this all take? Well, that’s the million-dollar question, and really relies on how extensive the accident (injury claims are scrutinized carefully to protect companies against fraud) and the state you’re in. In California, for instance, the insurance company must refute the claim or offer a settlement within 40 days of receiving a proof of claim).
How Can I Cancel My Safe Auto Car Insurance Policy?
You can cancel your car insurance at any time but, depending on the policy, you may be hit with early cancellation fees. If you want to cancel your Safe Auto policy before the 6-month renewal date, you’ll be looking at a $25 cancellation fee and are required to send a letter requesting that your policy be canceled.
