Cheapest car insurance quotes in Colorado

Agent Tip: Does liability-only coverage offer enough protection?

Britney Balk

Britney Balk

Linkedin

Customer Service Supervisor, Insurify

Although a liability-only policy is all that’s required to drive legally in Colorado, keep in mind that it may not provide enough coverage if you cause a serious accident. Medical expenses and repair costs may exceed your policy limits, meaning you’d have to pay the difference out of pocket. Remember, too, that a liability-only policy won’t pay to repair or replace your car if the accident’s your fault.

Cheapest full-coverage car insurance in Colorado: State Farm

To protect yourself against liability claims while also covering your vehicle, consider a full-coverage policy. Full coverage typically includes collision and comprehensive coverage, as well as higher liability limits.

Although it’s more expensive than a liability-only policy, full coverage protects your car if you cause an accident. State Farm offers the lowest rates for full-coverage policies, averaging $120 per month.

The table below shows which companies have the cheapest full-coverage premiums in Colorado.

The below rates in Colorado are estimated rates current as of: Sunday, March 1 at 11:00 AM PST.

Why was I canceled?
Reviewed in Texas on February 9, 2026
1/14/26: Liked what I saw and purchased Auto Insurance. 1/29/26: Received an email requesting a "Physician's opinion statement." I did not see this requirement in the many pages of fine print. Was given 30 days to submit. 1/31/26: Via email, I requested information on how to cancel my policy and stated that I do not release medical data to anyone. I did not request the policy be canceled. 2/01/26: Relented. 2/03/26: Hand-delivered request to primary care doctor and made an appointment for an Ophthalmologist for 02/10/26. 2/07/26: Received a USPS letter from MileAuto stating the policy would be canceled effective 3/01/26. The reason given was that "Policy no longer meets underwriting requirements." I have no idea what requirements this refers to.

Well, currently my car is out of commission, so there is no insurance on it because it has been sitting at a mechanic's shop since last year. The only reason I gave the rating that I did for Progressive is that my rate went from roughly $140 to $200 for a so-called minor accident. I am 60 years of age, and my children, specifically the one under 25, pay less than I do, and there were no available discounts. So if and when I get my car back, I’ll probably be going elsewhere. I wanted to consider other insurance options because, according to my EBT, supposedly I can get full coverage for less than what I was paying with Progressive.

Why we picked this company

In Colorado, State Farm has some of the lowest car insurance premiums. In addition to its low rates, you can save through the Drive Safe & Save telematics program or Steer Clear if you’re younger than 25.

While State Farm advertises a bundling discount, it doesn’t offer many other ways to save. But if you value local service, you’ll likely find an agent nearby. Denver alone has close to 250 State Farm insurance agents.

Pros
  • Hundreds of local agents throughout Colorado

  • Above-average J.D. Power claims satisfaction rating in Colorado

  • Available rental car reimbursement

Cons
  • Gap insurance not available

  • Fewer discounts than competitors

  • Negative Trustpilot reviews

How car insurance costs in Colorado have changed

As in many parts of the U.S., car insurance rates in Colorado have increased over the past few years. Premiums are higher than the national average and are likely to continue increasing in 2026.

Rates in Colorado are higher than the national average in part because the state faces a greater risk of windstorms, which can lead to wildfires.[3] Colorado is also one of the most hail-prone states in the country, increasing the chance of vehicle damage.[4]

Theft rates are also higher in Colorado. In 2024, the state had the fourth-highest car theft rate in the country, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau.[5]

Insurify projects that by the end of 2026, Colorado drivers will pay an average of $2,578 annually for coverage.

Colorado car insurance requirements

To drive legally in Colorado, you must have the following minimum coverage:[6]

  • Bodily injury liability: $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident

  • Property damage liability: $15,000 per accident

Keep in mind that these are the minimum auto insurance requirements in Colorado. With a minimum-requirement car policy, you may only have partial protection if you’re at fault in an accident that injures another party or causes property damage.

If you can’t afford to repair or replace your car out of pocket, consider adding collision and comprehensive coverage.

Methodology

Insurify data scientists analyzed more than 190 million quotes served to car insurance applicants in Insurify’s proprietary database to calculate the premium averages displayed on this page. These premiums are real quotes that come directly from Insurify’s 500+ partner insurance companies in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. Quote averages represent the median price for a quote across the given coverage level, driver subset, and geographic area.

Unless otherwise specified, quoted rates reflect the average cost for drivers between 20 and 70 years old with a clean driving record and average or better credit (a credit score of 600 or higher).

Liability-only premium averages correspond to policies with the following coverage limits:

  • Bodily injury limits between state-minimum rates and $50,000 per person, $100,000 per accident
  • Property damage limits between $10,000 and $50,000
  • No additional coverage
Full-coverage premium averages correspond to the same bodily injury and property damage limits in addition to:
  • Comprehensive coverage with a $1,000 deductible
  • Collision coverage with a $1,000 deductible

Quotes for Allstate, Farmers, GEICO, State Farm, and USAA are estimates based on Quadrant Information Services’ database of auto insurance rates.
