Noblr offers customers “smart car insurance” with a tech-forward approach to insurance, using artificial intelligence and a variable pricing plan to encourage safer driving.
Who Benefits Most and Least from Noblr Insurance?
- Safe drivers who want lower rates
- People who feel comfortable with a tech-forward company
- Those who don’t drive very often
Not the Best For…
- Drivers with a spotty driving record
- Those who prefer to pay a flat rate every month
Noblr: Is it really that smart?
Direct-to-consumer auto-insurer Noblr only started selling policies in the summer of 2019, but along with competitors Root and Metromile, it’s changing the way drivers buy insurance. Noblr uses artificial intelligence, coupled with a fixed and variable pricing plan, to create a community of low-risk, responsible drivers who care about road safety and good driving habits. Indeed, many drivers who use Noblr believe it rewarded them for being safe drivers by giving them lower rates, while some said it encouraged them to make safer driving decisions. If you’re a good driver or at least consider yourself one, you should give this app a try.
However, as with most telematics-based insurance programs, some consumers have brought up concerns over the Noblr app’s accuracy in collecting driving data, while others say Noblr didn’t save them that much money, and that it costs about the same as traditional insurance.
How does Noblr work?
When you purchase a Noblr policy, Noblr will first give you a fixed rate based on factors like your age, gender, address, and, of course, the car you drive. If you’re happy with your car insurance quote from Noblr, you can go ahead and download the Noblr app, which works like any other telematics app.
The app will track your driving habits like how much you drive, how hard you brake, how often you use your phone, your route choices, and what time of day you usually drive. The app will then calculate your variable score in real-time. Your variable score varies month-to-month, so your monthly rate depends on your driving habits that month.
The team at Insurify went through the Noblr flow to see just how its pricing policy works. Below is the estimated quote Noblr returned for the driver profile of a 29-year-old female from Texas who drives a 2004 GMC Yukon. The driver has a clean record, aside from an accident that occurred over five years ago.
For this driver, Noblr returned a monthly fixed rate of $123.52, and estimates an $8.16 monthly variable rate, bringing the total monthly quote to $131.68. Of course, the rate might increase or decrease once the driver installs the Noblr app, and Noblr starts tracking the driver’s behavior.
Noblr also offered a $69.42 discount if the driver bought their policy the day they got their quote. Additionally, the driver would get $115.73 off their total variable rate if they pay the entire fixed rate ($741) upfront!
For reference, if this same driver had used Insurify to compare quotes, they would see these rates:
So before you decide to purchase insurance, make sure you use Insurify to compare prices. It only takes a few minutes and helps you find the best deal for the best price!

Noblr Auto Insurance Coverages
Noblr offers a wide swath of auto insurance coverages, and automatically includes uninsured motorist bodily injury coverage, personal injury protection, and roadside assistance. Coverages vary based on your location, so it’s best if you speak to a Noblr representative to check which ones you’re eligible for.
Bodily Injury and Property Damage Liability Coverage
Liability coverage usually makes up the basis of your auto insurance policy, since 49 out of 50 states require you to have this before you get on the road. This type of coverage goes towards the medical bills and property damage you caused to another person in an accident. This coverage could further extend to paying for your legal defense if someone sues you for the damage you caused in an auto accident. This coverage doesn’t pay for your medical bills or property damage.
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury Coverage
UMBI covers your medical bills if you’re involved in an accident where the person who hit your car doesn’t have any or enough auto insurance. This coverage also typically applies to hit-and-run accidents where you weren’t able to take down the at-fault driver’s insurance information. Noblr automatically enrolls you for this coverage, and you must call 1 (877) BE-NOBLR for an Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury Coverage Rejection form to opt-out.
Uninsured Motorist Property Damage
UMPD, similar to UMBI, covers damage caused to your car by a driver who either doesn’t have insurance or doesn’t have enough insurance to cover the damage. You can usually substitute this coverage with collision coverage too.
Collision coverage pays to repair the damage your vehicle has sustained as a result of a collision with another object or vehicle.
Also known as “other than collision,” this coverage pays for repairs to your vehicle for damage sustained as a result of “Acts of God,” such as hail, flood, fire, theft, vandalism, or falling objects.
Medical Payment Coverage
If you get into an accident, your Med Pay coverage will help pay for your medical bills. This coverage kicks in before your personal health insurance and will cover your bills regardless of who caused the accident.
Personal Injury Protection
PIP also pays for your medical bills in the aftermath of an accident, regardless of who was at fault. Additionally, it might also cover up to 80 percent of wages you lost because of the accident, and any other services you may have to pay for because your accident-related injury prevents you from performing basic tasks.
Again, Noblr automatically enrolls you for this coverage. If you would like to opt-out of this coverage, you can call 1 (877) BE-NOBLR for a Personal Injury Protection Rejection form.
Rental Car Coverage
Noblr offers to help pay for a rental car if your car is in the repair shop due to a covered accident such as theft or vandalism.
Noblr’s Roadside Assistance
Nothing is worse than realizing you locked your keys in your car, or worse, being stuck by the side of the road because your vehicle refuses to work. Noblr offers roadside assistance so a representative can come help jumpstart your car, tow it to the nearest repair facility, help get your keys out of your car, or deliver gas.
Noblr adds roadside assistance to every policy and covers up to three incidents during your six-month policy. To contact Noblr’s roadside assistance, you can call 1 (415) 896-6256 any time of day, or you could tap “assistance” at the bottom of your Noblr app home screen.
Other Insurance Products Offered by Noblr Insurance
Currently, Noblr sells only car insurance; it doesn’t provide life, renters, or homeowners insurance coverage.
How Can I Buy Auto Insurance from Noblr?
You can buy a Noblr policy online by visiting its website, getting your base quote, and then signing up for your policy.
Keep in mind that you cannot buy a Noblr policy if you’ve been convicted of a DUI/DWI, if you’ve had a few too many accidents, claims or traffic violations, if you’ve missed too many payments, or if you’ve ever submitted a fraudulent claim.
How Often Will Noblr Increase My Premiums?
Noblr’s core values are based on creating a community of safe drivers and rewarding its members for making safer choices on the road. Noblr also follows a reciprocal exchange model that’s focused on cultivating a membership staffed by low-risk drivers so the company can keep its prices low.
Noblr’s variable rate will increase if you engage in the following:
Braking too hard or too fast
Noblr’s app will increase your monthly rate if it finds that you brake too abruptly or too harshly. The company’s website writes that such braking behavior points to irresponsible driving, since you might be too close to the car in front, might not be paying attention, or that you’re going too fast.
Using your phone while driving
Noblr’s app uses your phone’s gyroscope to track how often you pick up your phone while you drive. The more often you use your phone, the higher your variable rate will be. The reason is quite apparent: texting and driving have never been the mark of a safe driver.
Using city streets vs. the highway
Noblr’s app rates your road choices as you drive and will increase your variable rate if you often choose to drive on city streets instead of hitting the highway. This is because city streets are more accident-prone than freeways.
Driving late at night
Since most accidents tend to take place late at night, Noblr’s app will increase your variable rate if you drive between 11 PM and 4 AM. So if you often work the late shift at your job, you might have to pay a higher monthly rate.
Driving too often
Noblr’s app will increase your variable rate if you have very high mileage. If your job requires you to drive around a lot, or if you plan to take ample road trips, you should reconsider whether or not buying a Noblr policy is the right choice for you.
Aside from the factors the Noblr app will take into account, getting into a car accident, getting a speeding ticket, or being convicted of a DUI will also probably increase your rates. Keep in mind, Noblr seeks to insure the best drivers, and may no longer insure you if you have too many accidents or driving infractions.
How Much Does Uber/Lyft Coverage Cost with Noblr?
Currently, Noblr doesn’t offer rideshare insurance. If you use your car for rideshare purposes, Noblr will likely not insure you because of the increased risk.
If you’re a rideshare driver and need insurance, check out this list of cheap rideshare insurance options.
Insurance Companies Similar to Noblr
Many new insurance companies offer similar insurance products to those from Noblr, such as Root and Metromile. Both companies use telematics and artificial intelligence to determine your insurance rates.
Additionally, Esurance, which is relatively more established, offers a pay-per-mile telematics-based payment system while also giving you the option to go with a more traditional insurance system.
Noblr Customer Satisfaction and Policyholder Reviews
Given that Noblr is a relatively new company, reviews are sparse. For now, positive reviews focus on Noblr’s easy-to-use app and its pay-per-mile insurance model. Careful drivers seem to be especially happy with the app since they feel like they’ve been rewarded. Others say the app motivates them towards better driving.
Negative reviews, on the other hand, said Noblr’s pricing model ended up costing about as much as traditional insurance did. Of course, insurance rates vary widely from person to person, so you may or may not have the same issue.
Noblr Mobile App Review
Noblr’s smartphone app offers features like access to insurance ID cards, manage your account and payments, submit claims, and call for roadside assistance. The app also functions as a telematics app that tracks your driving behavior to ascertain your monthly variable rate. The app is available for both Apple and Android users.
Reviews for the app are typical of most other telematics apps. Some Noblr drivers say they’re delighted with their scores and rates, and say the constant monitoring has made them safer drivers. Meanwhile, drivers who have left negative reviews complain that the app drains their phone battery and unfairly judges their driving.
Frequently Asked Questions: Noblr Car Insurance
Is Noblr insurance legit?
Although Noblr is a relatively new company, it’s definitely a legitimate insurance company. In fact, it was founded by former Esurance president Gary Tolman and fellow Esurance alumnus Jason Foucher. Additionally, it’s backed by longtime insurance industry giants Third Point Reinsurance Ltd. and White Mountains Insurance Group.
How does Noblr work?
Noblr makes you pay a fixed rate and variable rate every month. The fixed rate is your base quote, while your variable rate is based on how well you drive according to Noblr’s app. The “safer” your driving choices are according to the Noblr app, the lower your variable rate.
Is Noblr cheaper than Esurance, Progressive, or GEICO?
Noblr’s uses a telematics app teamed with a reciprocal exchange model to ensure low-risk policyholders are rewarded with lower rates. However, you can’t really be sure if an insurance company is giving you the lowest rate until you compare quotes. Comparing insurance quotes is a quick and easy process if you use an insurance comparison website like Insurify, which lets you compare quotes across up to 20 different companies at a time.
Is Noblr the cheapest car insurance in your area?
You can never rely on just one company to give you the best or the cheapest car insurance quote. Just because Noblr gave your friend cheap rates and a great driving score, doesn’t mean it’ll have the same price for you.
That’s why it’s essential to do your research and compare quotes among other insurance companies. This can be time-consuming, but Insurify helps you compare auto insurance quotes in a matter of minutes.
All you have to do is put in some basic information about your driving profile, and you can compare up to 20 quotes at once for free!
Noblr Auto Insurance Overview
Founded by Esurance alumni and co-founders Gary Tolman and Jason Foucher, Noblr Inc. sold its first policy just last summer in Colorado. Noblr has since expanded operations to Texas, Ohio, and Arizona.
Tolman has over 40 years of experience at various insurance companies, having spent 15 years as president of Esurance, while Foucher spent 10 years at Esurance before leaving to work at Metromile for another six.
