Root Insurance offers affordable car insurance at low rates to customers with a demonstrated record of safe driving habits. Bad drivers need not apply!
At the root of Root is its mobile app, available for both iPhone and Android.
Roadside assistance coverage is included with every policy, no matter which other policy customizations you choose to include or omit from your plan. Drivers can access roadside assistance through Root's preferred partner, Swoop. If you choose to use a service other than Swoop to take care of the towing, you can email your receipts to email@example.com for full reimbursement.
True to its mission of simplifying the car insurance payment process, customers can pay for their car insurance directly through the mobile app. Root accepts credit cards and Apple Pay. Payment plans are flexible - you can pay monthly or every six months. You can even change your payment date up to 5 days before or after your current payment date, as long as you do so on a monthly basis.
Root offers a variety of discounts for its customers, all of which are built in automatically to your initial quote. Root claims to offer savings of up to 52% just for taking the Root test drive, which a prerequisite for coverage.
Root is the nation's first and only entirely app-based car insurance company. Purporting to serve customers based on how they drive, "not who they are," Root is an anomaly in the car insurance industry: it's a car insurance company that leverages technology in smartphones (both iPhones and Androids) to measure driver behavior through an easy-to-use mobile app.
Using technology in smartphones to measure over 200 variables of driving behavior (braking, turn speed, driving time, route regularity, etc.), Root determines a risk profile for each driver. Root only insures safe drivers in order to offer the most affordable car insurance rates. As such, Root requires prospective customers to complete a short test drive, measured through the Root app on the driver's smartphone, before providing a price. The prospective customer's "driving score" from the test drive is considered the single most important factor in determining an accurate auto insurance policy rate.
Root Insurance is licensed to sell auto insurance policies in the following states: Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Mexico, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, and Utah. Root has plans to expand nationwide by 2020.
Root Insurance is headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. Visit www.joinroot.com for more information.

The car insurance quotes displayed are based on an analysis of Insurify’s database of over 40 million quotes from 500 ZIP codes nationwide. To obtain representative rates, Insurify’s data science team performs frequent comprehensive analyses of the factors car insurance providers weigh to calculate rates including driver demographics, driving record, credit score, desired coverage level, and more.
Insurify’s analysis also incorporates the Insurify Composite Score (ICS) assigned to each insurance provider. The ICS is a proprietary rating that weighs multiple factors reflecting the quality, reliability, and health of an insurance company. Ratings used to calculate the ICS include Financial Strength Ratings from A.M. Best, Standard & Poor’s, Moody’s, and Fitch; J.D. Power ratings; Consumer Reports customer satisfaction surveys and customer complaints; mobile app reviews; and user-generated company reviews.
With the above insights and ranking methods, Insurify is able to offer car insurance shoppers insight into how various insurance providers compare to one another in terms of both cost and quality. Note, actual quotes will vary based on unique attributes including the policyholder’s driver history and their garaging address.
