State Farm is one of the most well-known companies in the car insurance market. It’s also the largest insurer, covering nearly 20% of drivers in the U.S.[1] With more than 100 years in business, the company has built a strong reputation based on customer service and financial stability.

State Farm has plenty of advantages, including its network of local agents, affordable pricing, and strong claims tools. This review rounds up verified Insurify user reviews, industry rankings, and our expert analysis. Here’s how State Farm stacks up when it comes to cost, claims, and customer satisfaction.

Quick Facts
  • Average monthly premium: $107 for full coverage

  • State Farm user rating: 4/5 from 15,386 verified Insurify reviews

  • Insurify Quality (IQ) Score: 9.3/10

  • Best for: Drivers who want excellent customer service

Our take on State Farm car insurance

Here's our honest review about State Farm for car insurance in just a few paragraphs:

State Farm consistently stands out as one of the best car insurance companies on the market.

State Farm has a reputation in the insurance industry for strong customer service. The company ranks above average in both auto insurance claims satisfaction and overall customer satisfaction nationwide in J.D. Power studies.[2] [3] It also has fewer complaints than expected with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).

The company operates through a network of local insurance agents. It has below-average rates for nearly every type of driver, making it a great option for anyone on a budget. State Farm doesn’t have as many coverage options or discounts as many of its competitors (though it still has plenty of ways to save).

Full-coverage car insurance generally includes liability, collision, and comprehensive coverage, and may include other optional coverages such as uninsured motorist coverage. I feel like I'm being punished for a car accident where I was hit from behind, which totaled my 2012 Jeep Liberty Limited and pushed me into the car in front of me. The other driver also had State Farm. I received $7,100 to get another 2012 Liberty Sport. Now, my monthly insurance with State Farm is $146, up from $80. Other companies, like Progressive, see the totaled Jeep and won't insure my current Jeep (same year, too confusing for them?).

They raised their rates four times over a six-month period for no reason, and I have a perfect driving record for 40 years. They claim it's the type of car, but it's not a Ferrari. My Corvette was three times cheaper at $120.00 per month versus $130, then they raised it to $220 a month for the new car.

I had a claim with State Farm, and they did not supply me with enough money to buy another vehicle. Mine was totaled, and they sent it to salvage and paid my lender, but I was left with no car and no down payment. I was relieved of the debt to the lender, which is something, but it's just not the way I wanted it. I wanted to buy the car from them as salvage.

I have been using State Farm for car, auto, life, personal belongings, and umbrella insurance since 1975 and have always been very satisfied, except with the repairs from a water leak. The leak was repaired correctly, but the floor repair by a company recommended by State Farm ruined our floor and cannot be refinished again because the company sanded the floor incorrectly. This probably lowered the value of our home.

Overpaying for Insurance
Reviewed in New York on February 18, 2026
I have been with State Farm Insurance from 1967 to 2026, which would be 59 years, minus 2 1/2 years I was in the military. State Farm Insurance was always great to me, and I always had a local State Farm Insurance office and agent that made everything simple. I did enjoy having that kind of experience and service. After all the years that I’ve been with them and asking if there was any way that I could qualify for a reduced rate and being told no so quickly or without checking made my blood boil. I’ve been hearing this for years, “If you have an insurance agent you’re throwing your money away.” After contacting a number of insurance companies and getting insurance quotes for the same type of coverage, I’m finding that I have been paying premiums that were way too high. I can save $1,500-$1,750 a year for the same type of coverage, not dealing with an insurance agent. That’s a lot of money, so I started looking for insurance companies that can give me better rates for the same coverage I had.

  • Our editorial team spent more than 350 hours developing the Insurify Quality (IQ) Score and scoring insurance companies. The IQ Score objectively analyzes and calculates a score for insurers using more than 15 crucial criteria. The team weighted criteria by importance to the consumer — factors such as customer reviews and affordability influence the score more than availability and third-party ratings.

We rate each company on a 1 to 10 scale based on five categories: financial ratings, customer satisfaction, affordability, customer support and transparency, and availability. Insurify updates ratings once a year or as more recent information becomes available.

    • Third-party financial ratings: Insurify uses data from AM Best, S&P, Moody’s, and more to compare insurance companies’ credit and ability to pay out future claims.
    • Customer satisfaction: To calculate this score, Insurify analyzed more than 55,000 customer reviews across 155 car insurance companies. We also consider third-party ratings from J.D. Power, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, and Trustpilot.

Methodology

Insurify data scientists analyzed more than 190 million quotes served to car insurance applicants in Insurify’s proprietary database to calculate the premium averages displayed on this page. These premiums are real quotes that come directly from Insurify’s 500+ partner insurance companies in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. Quote averages represent the median price for a quote across the given coverage level, driver subset, and geographic area.

Unless otherwise specified, quoted rates reflect the average cost for drivers between 20 and 70 years old with a clean driving record and average or better credit (a credit score of 600 or higher).

Liability-only premium averages correspond to policies with the following coverage limits:

  • Bodily injury limits between state-minimum rates and $50,000 per person, $100,000 per accident
  • Property damage limits between $10,000 and $50,000
  • No additional coverage
Full-coverage premium averages correspond to the same bodily injury and property damage limits in addition to:
  • Comprehensive coverage with a $1,000 deductible
  • Collision coverage with a $1,000 deductible

Quotes for Allstate, Farmers, GEICO, State Farm, and USAA are estimates based on Quadrant Information Services’ database of auto insurance rates.
