Cheapest car insurance quotes in Wisconsin

Wisconsin car insurance costs an average of $58 per month for liability-only coverage and $109 for full coverage, which is below the national average.

Wisconsin’s midwestern location doesn’t face hurricanes and coastal flooding like other states, which could contribute to its lower rates. But hail, flooding, and the more than 17,000 deer strikes that happen in Wisconsin every year can still factor into insurance pricing.[1]

We gathered quotes for cheap car insurance in Wisconsin from 120+ companies. You can compare rates below by coverage level and driving profile.

Cheapest liability-only car insurance in Wisconsin: USAA

Wisconsin law requires liability coverage, including $25,000 per person for bodily injuries ($50,000 for two or more people) and $10,000 for property damage.[2] Wisconsin drivers need to also carry uninsured motorists coverage, including $25,000 per person and $50,000 for two or more people to cover bodily injuries.

Because Wisconsin is an at-fault state, drivers can seek compensation for injuries directly from the at-fault driver’s insurance, which is why state law doesn’t require personal injury protection (PIP) like no-fault states do.

But you have the option to add medical payments coverage, which can help with medical or funeral expenses after an accident that injures or kills you or other people.

The average monthly rate for liability insurance in Wisconsin is $58, which is cheaper than neighboring state Minnesota’s average rate of $88.

Below are quotes for the cheapest liability car insurance in Wisconsin.

Agent Tip: Is liability-only coverage enough protection?

Austin Moyers

Austin Moyers

Sales Manager, Insurify

While liability insurance is the most affordable coverage, it doesn’t cover any damage to your car so it’s worth considering full coverage. For example, if you hit a deer on I-94, full coverage would help pay for the damage to your car. If you only have liability insurance, you’re responsible for paying to fix any damage.

Cheapest full-coverage car insurance in Wisconsin: USAA

Wisconsin drivers face several risks that could make full-coverage car insurance worth considering.

Deer strikes contributed to more than 17,400 crashes in 2024, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT).[3] Storms and flooding of roads are also a concern. Gov. Tony Evers declared a state of emergency in August 2025 due to flooding on roads. Full coverage, which includes collision and comprehensive coverage, typically protects against these events.

On average, full coverage costs $109 per month in Wisconsin. The table below shows the cheapest full-coverage car insurance in Wisconsin.

Why we picked this company

Wisconsin’s minimum coverage requirements ($25,000 per person for injuries and $10,000 for property damage) may not provide enough financial protection after an accident. Auto-Owners lets you customize your coverage to make sure you’re fully protected. It offers multiple optional add-ons, including collision, comprehensive, gap, and medical payments coverage.

Pros
  • Lower premiums with many available discounts

  • Several optional coverage add-ons

  • Waived deductible for accidents with another Auto-Owners customer

Cons
  • Quotes not available online; must work with an agent

  • Below-average J.D. Power customer satisfaction rating in the North Central region

  • Lower mobile app ratings than some other insurers

Wisconsin car insurance FAQs

From coverage requirements to what affects your rate, here’s what Wisconsin drivers most often want to know.

  • How much is car insurance in Wisconsin?

Car insurance in Wisconsin costs $109 per month for full coverage and $58 for liability-only coverage, Insurify data shows.

  • What are the minimum car insurance requirements in Wisconsin?

In Wisconsin, you must carry bodily injury liability and uninsured motorist coverage with limits of at least $25,000 for one person and $50,000 for two or more people. You must also have $10,000 in coverage for property damage.

  • Which company has the cheapest car insurance in Wisconsin?

USAA, State Farm, and Auto-Owners offer some of the lowest rates in Wisconsin. To find the cheapest car insurance in Wisconsin, you should shop multiple insurers and compare quotes.

  • How do rates compare across cities in Wisconsin?

Milwaukee has higher car insurance rates than smaller towns like Kenosha and Madison. Higher population density and reckless driving can contribute to higher insurance premiums in Milwaukee.

  • How can you get cheaper car insurance in Wisconsin?

In Wisconsin, you may be able to reduce your car insurance premiums by bundling auto and homeowners insurance, maintaining a safe driving history, raising your deductible, shopping for car insurance discounts, and comparing quotes.

  • Is Wisconsin a no-fault state?

No. Wisconsin is an at-fault state, meaning the driver responsible for a crash must pay for the damages. Under Wisconsin’s comparative negligence law, parties can share fault, potentially reducing how much you can recover if the accident was partially your fault.

Methodology

Insurify data scientists analyzed more than 190 million quotes served to car insurance applicants in Insurify’s proprietary database to calculate the premium averages displayed on this page. These premiums are real quotes that come directly from Insurify’s 500+ partner insurance companies in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. Quote averages represent the median price for a quote across the given coverage level, driver subset, and geographic area.

Unless otherwise specified, quoted rates reflect the average cost for drivers between 20 and 70 years old with a clean driving record and average or better credit (a credit score of 600 or higher).

Liability-only premium averages correspond to policies with the following coverage limits:

  • Bodily injury limits between state-minimum rates and $50,000 per person, $100,000 per accident
  • Property damage limits between $10,000 and $50,000
  • No additional coverage
Full-coverage premium averages correspond to the same bodily injury and property damage limits in addition to:
  • Comprehensive coverage with a $1,000 deductible
  • Collision coverage with a $1,000 deductible

Quotes for Allstate, Farmers, GEICO, State Farm, and USAA are estimates based on Quadrant Information Services’ database of auto insurance rates.
