Metromile was founded in San Francisco in 2011 and provides personal, pay-per-mile car insurance. Long story short: the less you drive, the less you'll pay.
With pay-per-mile car insurance from Metromile, you get a low base rate, then pay just pennies per mile. Designed for low-mileage drivers, Metromile offers complete coverage options for a fraction of the cost. Miles are measured through a free Pulse device that easily plugs into your car; all miles recorded over 250 a day are free.
Metromile’s low-mileage customers save an average of $611 a year and enjoy the added comfort of having no cancellation fee if they choose to cancel their auto policy.
Metromile currently provides its unique auto insurance policies in Arizona, California, Illinois, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington.
Some insurance products offered through Metromile are underwritten by insurers in the National General Insurance Group.
To date, Metromile has raised nearly $300 million in funding.
You can cancel your policy at any time online. You can also call customer service at 888-244-1702 Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Pacific.
They were accurate with their rates.
Bait and switch company. Raised my rates 100% after 6 months. No tickets or accidents during that time. Claimed that this is due to raising costs in California. I found rates even better than those before the raise.
