Buying insurance comes with a lot of options these days…and not just because there are 5,977 insurance companies in the United States.
Policygenius is an insurance marketplace that claims it’s the easiest way to buy insurance online.
As yet another business dead-set on disrupting the insurance industry for the better, Policygenius helps users find and compare insurance quotes for several types of insurance. This includes auto insurance, disability insurance, life insurance, homeowners and renters insurance, and pet insurance. Its pitch is all about ease of purchase.
Policygenius even makes pop-up books showcasing how easy its site is:
How does Policygenius work?
To purchase auto insurance or any of the insurance policies Poligenius culls together, users are prompted to enter their personal information into an online form.
Here’s the thing, though: if you can’t bundle your homeowners insurance with your auto insurance, you’ll be sent to the site of a “trusted partner.”
What does that mean? That means Policygenius offers you five links to either other insurance providers or another online marketplace where you can shop for policies. Don’t worry, though; when I used it, the site made sure to gather my email address first—under the guise that some sort of waitlist exists “due to high demand.” Of course, once I entered my email, I was informed that Policygenius doesn’t offer comparison shopping for my specific product.
Thankfully, I used my spam-only email address.
Now, if you want to shop using the bundle method, it’s pretty straightforward. First, you’ll be asked for basic information, like personal details and property information regarding your home and car. Once the application process is completed, you will be informed that an email is on its way with a list of up to ten insurance rates. You are also given the option of scheduling a call with a Policygenius comparison expert.
In this author’s humble opinion, this doesn’t seem all that easy.
One of the coolest features that Policygenius offers is the “Insurance Checkup.” After answering a series of questions, you will receive an evaluation regarding what kinds of insurance and how much of it you need.

Policygenius Reviews: Here’s what customers are saying…
When searching around for reviews, Policygenius seems to fair pretty well. However, upon closer inspection, reviews seem to be limited to exactly one product: life insurance. Among Consumer Affairs’ 43 customer reviews, not one mentions an auto insurance policy nor the bundling process.
Among the 1,000 reviews on Trustpilot, I did find some mentions of bundling home and car insurance policies. In fact, I found exactly three reviews. Drumroll: Customers are happy with the results! Plus, they seem happy with the process of speaking with a comparison expert.
Better Business Bureau (BBB) reviewers haven’t fared quite so well. Users cite a slow process that is, unfortunately, error-prone. In the most recent review, a customer claims that a gift card promised as a signing bonus was never received.
Still, Policygenius gets an “A” grade from BBB, despite receiving only two out of five stars and three customer complaints.
In all fairness, auto insurance is not the product darling of Policygenius. Its baby is life insurance, and it shows. Millennial-focused finance sites, such as Money Under 30 and The College Investor, proved reviews from 85 to 92 percent positive, especially regarding life insurance quotes comparison. The standout feature is the “Insurance Checkup” that can be used easily and without getting spammed for months. Customers can purchase both term and whole life insurance products.

So how can you actually compare rates for auto insurance only?
With Insurify, you can compare car insurance quotes—and quotes for other insurance products—side by side, with no email correspondence required. While users do need to enter an email, this information will never be sold or shared. Once you fill out our form, you will be redirected to a comparison roster with up to 20 competitive quotes from national and local insurance companies.
And, if you do need to speak to an expert, simply scroll to the end of your quotes page and click the blue bar that says “Need to talk to a human?” Several contact options, including Skype, are offered.
