At Insurify, our goal is to help customers compare insurance products and find the best policy for them. We strive to provide open, honest, and unbiased information about the insurance products and services we review. Our hard-working team of data analysts, insurance experts, insurance agents, editors and writers, has put in thousands of hours of research to create the content found on our site.

We do receive compensation when a sale or referral occurs from many of the insurance providers and marketing partners on our site. That may impact which products we display and where they appear on our site. But it does not influence our meticulously researched editorial content, what we write about, or any reviews or recommendations we may make. We do not guarantee favorable reviews or any coverage at all in exchange for compensation.

Pretected is an online comparison tool that promises to simplify shopping for home, auto, health, and life insurance.[1] The website claims to use advanced algorithms to match you with the best coverage and rates.

In practice, though, Pretected works more like a lead-generation service for insurance, including for auto policies. Instead of generating real-time quotes, it collects your information and passes it along to multiple insurance companies.

Here’s what you should know about Pretected reviews to see what real users have experienced. We’ll also examine how the quote process works.

Quick Facts
  • Pretected may share your information with advertisers and third parties — not just insurers.

  • Signing up is simple, but you have to re-enter your details with each insurer.

  • The company has a limited online presence, and the few reviews are mixed and outdated.

Pretected at a glance

Pretected, which launched in 2019, is an online marketplace that uses AI to connect its users with auto, home, life, and health insurance. The company says it works with more than 100 insurers and has helped roughly 2 million people find coverage.

Unlike other insurance-comparison sites, Pretected doesn’t provide real-time quotes. Instead, it shares your information with insurers or brokers, who may contact you by phone or email.

In exchange, Pretected earns referral fees. The fine print on its website states that this compensation could influence which offers appear. That means Pretected could match you with the companies paying the highest referral fees rather than those with the highest-quality policies.

Below is a quick overview of some of the benefits and drawbacks of using Pretected’s service:

Pros
  • Connects you with multiple insurance companies

  • Offers various policy options (auto, home, health, life)

  • Includes a quick, simple sign-up process

Cons
  • Doesn’t provide real-time auto insurance quotes

  • Referral-fee model may influence policy quality and price

  • Dated and mixed customer reviews

How does Pretected work?

If you’re shopping for car insurance, Pretected says it can help you compare policies from multiple insurers. We tried the service ourselves to see how it works.

1. Visit Pretected’s homepage

To start, go to the Pretected website and select the insurance product you want to shop for. For this example, we chose auto insurance.

2. Complete Pretected’s quote form

Next, Pretected will ask you for the following information:

  • ZIP code

  • Vehicle details

  • Car’s use (commute, business, pleasure)

  • Annual mileage

  • Desired coverage level

  • Whether the vehicle is leased or financed

  • Current insurer and insurance history

  • Driving history

  • Driver information, including whether you’re a homeowner

  • Education and credit score

  • Your birth date

  • Your name

  • Your address, email, and phone number

3. Review your matches

After you submit the form, Pretected matches you with several insurance companies but doesn’t show side-by-side quotes on its site. To receive your quotes, you have to navigate to each insurer’s website.

4. Expect follow-ups

Since Pretected shares your personal information with the insurers in its network, multiple agents may reach out by phone, text, or email with policy offers.

Compared to sites that give you real-time quotes, this process can feel intrusive.

Our review of the Pretected experience

After trying Pretected’s quote process ourselves, Pretected recommended two insurers and even suggested two other comparison tools, which undercuts the point of using Pretected in the first place.

But Pretected didn’t provide instant quotes. To see pricing, we had to visit each insurer’s website and re-enter the same details we had already provided to Pretected.

Soon after, multiple insurance companies began reaching out with policy offers. While this approach could help you receive a large pool of quotes, it can also feel overwhelming.

Pretected reviews: What real customers are saying

You won’t find many Pretected customer reviews online, so its trust and satisfaction index is based on a relatively small sample size. The company doesn’t have a Better Business Bureau (BBB) profile, and reviews on Trustpilot and Reddit are scarce — and dated.

On Trustpilot, Pretected has only 26 reviews, with the most recent dating back to 2021. It has 2.9 out of 5 stars, with more than half of reviewers giving it 1 star.[2]

Users frequently report that the site didn’t provide any insurance quotes. Instead, insurance agents bombarded them with calls and emails after they’d provided their information.

Although Pretected has a lot of complaints on Trustpilot, a few reviewers mentioned that they’d had a good experience using the service. For example, one review said using the website actually resulted in savings.

As with any online marketplace, it’s a good idea to research the company yourself. This lets you form your own opinions and decide which quote tool offers the best results while protecting your personal information.

Pretected vs. Insurify

Although Pretected and Insurify may seem similar on the surface, the two companies operate in very different ways.

Pretected is a lead-generation site that earns referral fees from selling your information to insurance companies. As a result, many users report getting spammed by agents after signing up. Its privacy policy also states that Pretected may share your data with advertising networks or data resellers.

In contrast, Insurify is a licensed insurance agency in all 50 states. It earns a commission when you purchase a policy through its platform and clearly states that it won’t sell your personal information.

Unlike Pretected, which doesn’t provide insurance quotes, Insurify displays real-time quotes side by side, making it easier to find the best car insurance rates and coverage.

Insurify is BBB accredited and has 4.8 stars on Trustpilot with more than 8,000 user ratings. Meanwhile, Pretected has a much smaller online presence, and its dated reviews reflect a mix of positive and negative experiences.

While Pretected limits its customer service options to an online contact form, Insurify offers licensed insurance agents you can call for tailored advice.

Is Pretected a spammy site?

When you fill out Pretected’s quote form, the website collects your personal information, including your phone number and email. Then, it shares this information with multiple insurance companies.

On the plus side, this can connect you with several insurers at once, which may help you find the best rate more quickly. The downside is that your data is widely distributed. Afterward, you may receive a barrage of calls, texts, and emails from agents.

Pretected’s privacy policy also notes that it may share your information with parties other than insurance companies.[3] The list may include advertising networks, data analytics firms, social networks, and consumer data resellers. That means you’ll have limited control over how the company handles your personal details.

Pretected FAQs

If you’re considering using Pretected to shop for insurance, the answers to some frequently asked questions below can provide additional information.

Although completing Pretected’s form is pretty straightforward, the platform doesn’t give you real-time quotes. As a result, getting car insurance quotes from different companies requires some extra effort.

  • Is Pretected free?

Yes. Pretected is 100% free to use. It earns its money through referral fees after giving your information to insurance companies and brokers.

  • Is Pretected legitimate or a scam?

Pretected is a legitimate site, although the company distributes your data after you provide it. Numerous Pretected reviewers report agents spamming them with calls, texts, and emails.

  • How does Pretected compare to other insurance marketplaces?

Unlike other insurance marketplaces, such as Insurify, Pretected isn’t a licensed insurance agency. It’s a lead-generation site that provides your information to insurance companies in exchange for referral fees.
