Since Gronk, USAA isn't what it used to be.
I've been a member for 21 years. They were a solid auto insurance company, especially in Europe. However, ever since Gronkowski became their celebrity branding spokesperson, the rates have increased. I switched to Progressive and got the same coverage for half the price. USAA, you can do better. Lose Gronk and get back to offering honest insurance rates for loyal military members.

Good On Homes/High on Auto
I don't think your insurance programs can be beaten, but they are expensive and twice as much as what I can pay in the insurance market! My home coverage is more important to me than my auto coverage. It doesn't bother me to pay a higher premium on my house, but my auto insurance is way higher than what I can get from other insurance companies. We only drive to the doctor's appointments, grocery store, and to visit our kids and grandkids. I understand paying full coverage on my fully paid RAM P/U, but I feel I am paying way too much on my Honda that is over 10 years old and paid for. We are planning on buying a new (2022 - 2024) Jeep Grand Cherokee later this year or early next year, and I feel that I am bound to shop for insurance for that vehicle. What I like about USAA is that you are great when it comes to claims and we have only had one house claim that I feel could not have been handled any better than the way we were treated after the wind storm we had. And I thank you for that! If I could get a better auto plan, I would be a very happy customer. Thank you.

Auto Insurance is Expensive
I've never had to make a claim, but I was insured, so that's fine. My only complaint is about the overall cost of insurance. I've never been in an accident and haven't received a ticket for anything other than parking in decades of driving. Yet, I need to pay nearly $300/month just to drive legally. It feels like a scam.

Concerns about Tracking Driving Habits
I drive more than one car, including others' vehicles where I'm insured. I might only drive my own vehicle once or twice in two weeks. They track my travels from my cellphone, assuming I'm driving my vehicle, but that's not always the case. How do I communicate to them when I'm actually driving my own vehicle?

Disappointed with USAA
They increased my monthly payment by $125. They only explained that everyone in VA experienced a rise. When I asked when it would decrease, they did not provide a specific time. I would like to point out that my car's catalytic converter is under the hood and attached to the cylinder head, not underneath the car.

I had a terrible claims experience with them. They did nothing to compensate for their poor handling of my claim; in fact, they increased my premium even more. The claim was for a 'hit-and-run' while my car was parked outside a house and I was in the backyard. It was broad daylight, around 12:43 pm; I had parked at 12:41 pm, which means I barely made it out of the car in time to avoid being hit by this vehicle. I was not at fault. USAA increased my monthly premium by over $100 each 6-month renewal period. I never planned to ever leave USAA in my life. But, honestly, the lack of addressing my terrible claims experience, during which they left my claim open and unattended, was disappointing. My entire claims payment/appraisal process required to complete the repairs on my Infiniti Q50 (around $14,000 in the end) was just sitting there, basically on hold for no reason. When I politely asked for answers to my specific questions regarding why my premium has more than doubled in the past 3-4 years, it seemed like they were trained not to give specific answers related to 6-month auto premium increases.

Being charged $568 per month for insurance is insane. None of your representatives could provide my mother and me with any valid answers to our questions. How can our insurance go up from $238 per month two years ago to over $400 last year and now $568? We were clearly being over-insured for no reason. I was very offended that in order to get any break on my insurance, I would have to have my privacy invaded by a device that tracks my every move while I'm driving. My mom is 85 and has been a customer of yours since she was in her 20s. It's sad that your company cannot retain a customer who has been so loyal in every way, having all of her services through you including house, banking, etc. Despite my dad being in the merchant marines, I feel I was treated poorly by your staff who gave me very poor explanations for why our insurance had almost tripled in two years without any reason. I didn't have an accident. The customer service was really poor and I spoke to three different people and no one could really answer any of my questions. One representative even suggested that if I get OnStar, I would save one penny. Is that supposed to be an attractive solution? You need better trained staff who know what they're talking about, know how to answer the hard questions, and know how to investigate things that just don't look or sound right. Do better, USAA. Love, Jaqi. I have also been a USAA member since I was 15.

I've been with them for seven years. In September, I notified them of my move to Alabama, which I thought would trigger a correction in my insurance records to reflect my new location. After paying three months of premiums based on Florida rates, I realized they were overcharging me by $100 per month. I believe they should have adjusted my premium, but they didn't. I felt deceived by them!

They won't insure Florida houses. I had to sue them three times to get paid on two different claims. Once to get PIP and then to collect for an underinsured motorist who hit my wife. They lost instantly in court on the PIP. Their lawyers kept advising USAA to pay policy limits on the second claim and finally they did, two years later, an hour before court. Much later, when a red light runner totaled my brand new truck, they tried to pay me 70%. After three years, they settled for more than I initially wanted. As a veteran, they hold a 'special' place in my mind on this Memorial Day weekend.

I intended to give two stars. The reason why I am giving USAA such a low rating is because of a recent experience. The police told USAA that an accident was the fault of the other driver of a truck. I was not behind the wheel, my aide was. The key point is that both I and the police agreed the other party was at fault. The problem is that USAA has a system which seems to make them lose cases. This is due to mandatory arbitration. The issue with this arbitration is that the other side can indicate that they have evidence which is not available to USAA or to their client, me, and this is not to be divulged to me or USAA as part of the agreement to do this procedure. This allows the guilty party to get away with the accident because USAA does not want to get involved in lawsuits or any righteous way to determine guilt. So instead of shared guilt which most suits are about, USAA will allow the other companies to get away with accidents by the arbitration procedure which does not reveal the other parties' evidence to either their client or themselves. This means USAA sets up their clients for losses that they could have gotten back, plus the reputation for accident guilt which is baseless, because USAA let the other insurance company and their client off the hook by the arbitration procedure I am talking about. Not only did I lose a case where the fault of the accident according to the police, and myself as a witness, was the other party's fault, but USAA set me up for this bad reputation by their arbitration procedure which did not allow me to see what evidence the other party was offering. This allowed the other side to find people who were not at the accident to make false testimonies. So, if these people can't be questioned by the arbitration procedure and remain unknown while the police report is the public report of a known police officer, I lose my deductible and my reputation because USAA accepts a dishonest arbitration that has a 'beat it' procedure, and does not give extreme weight to what the police investigation revealed. To put it simply, USAA is letting its own policyholders down.
