State Farm Premiums Aren’t Great
First, I had to pick something above for claims, but I’ve never had a claim. Next, State Farm has raised rates so much it’s crazy. I drive under 100 miles a year, so no insurance is priced right for my habits. But I lease and need full insurance with high limits. I have an 850 FICO score, no claims in 20 years, and only one driver. I dropped State Farm for Progressive.

Easiest Arizona car insurance discounts to qualify for

Some car insurance discounts are easier to qualify for than others. Arizona has a lower-than-average rate of drivers with tickets and accidents, according to Insurify data. That means you and other Arizona drivers are more likely to qualify for a good driver discount. You could also receive a discount if you enroll in a telematics program and demonstrate safe driving.

Bundling your car insurance with another policy is also easy, regardless of whether you own or rent your home. More than 1 in 10 Arizona drivers own multiple vehicles and could easily qualify for a multi-vehicle policy discount, too.

Senior drivers can qualify for a discount on a driver improvement course. Arizona state law allows insurers to discount rates for drivers 55 and older who complete a qualifying course.[1]

Many Arizona employers (including Banner Health) and credit unions (including Arizona Central Credit Union and OneAZ Credit Union) offer discounted car insurance options. You may also qualify for a military discount if you work at one of Arizona’s many military bases and installations.

Car insurance discounts exclusive to Arizona

Arizona state law allows car insurance companies to reduce premiums for drivers 55 and older who successfully complete a driver improvement course. The Department of Transportation must have approved the course, and you must have completed the course within the last three years to be eligible.

Note that the course is different from the state’s court-administered Defensive Driving Program, which lets drivers avoid points on their license.[2]

How to maximize your Arizona car insurance discounts

Taking advantage of Arizona car insurance discounts is one of the easiest ways to get cheap car insurance in Arizona. The following can help you maximize your discounts and save money on car insurance:

  • Research carefully. Not every car insurance company offers the same discounts. Figure out which discount types you’re most likely to qualify for, and see which insurers offer big discounts for those types.

  • Check with your organizations. If you’re an active-duty service member, you can get a military discount with many insurers. For example, USAA has exclusive discounts for military members, veterans, and their families. You can also earn discounts if you’re a teacher or first responder. Some Arizona employers, including Banner Health, and credit unions, including OneAZ, also offer car insurance discounts.

  • Take a driver improvement course. If you’re 55 or older, you can add to your discounts by completing an eligible driver improvement course in Arizona.

  • Always ask for a full list of discounts. Insurers may not advertise every discount they offer. Speak with your insurance agent or a customer service representative to understand all the discounts you qualify for.

How to apply car insurance discounts to your policy in Arizona

Applying discounts to your car insurance policy in Arizona is typically straightforward. In some cases, your insurer may apply a discount automatically:

  1. Contact your insurance agent or customer service representative. Learn about all the discounts you may be eligible for. If there’s a discount you think you should be eligible for but don’t see it listed, ask for more information.

  2. Submit all the proper documentation. For example, you may need to provide confirmation that you completed an eligible driver improvement course. Required documentation may also include proof of continuous coverage, report cards, or vehicle information.

  3. Make sure you’re actively enrolled in the driver monitoring program. Often, that means downloading an app and allowing it to track your location.

  4. Opt in to paperless billing and automatic payments. Both typically result in a small discount. Paying for the entire policy term up front, rather than in monthly installments, may also result in a discount. You may need to log in online or via an app to set up these payment options and qualify for paperless, automatic payments, and paid-in-full discounts.

Methodology

Insurify data scientists analyzed more than 250 million quotes served to car insurance applicants in Insurify’s proprietary database to calculate the premium averages displayed on this page. These premiums are real quotes that come directly from Insurify’s 500+ partner insurance companies in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. Quote averages represent the median price for a quote across the given coverage level, driver subset, and geographic area.

Unless otherwise specified, quoted rates reflect the average cost for drivers between 20 and 70 years old with a clean driving record and average or better credit (a credit score of 600 or higher).

Liability-only premium averages correspond to policies with the following coverage limits:

  • Bodily injury limits between state-minimum rates and $50,000 per person, $100,000 per accident
  • Property damage limits between $10,000 and $50,000
  • No additional coverage
Full-coverage premium averages correspond to the same bodily injury and property damage limits in addition to:
  • Comprehensive coverage with a $1,000 deductible
  • Collision coverage with a $1,000 deductible

Quotes for Allstate, Farmers, GEICO, State Farm, and USAA are estimates based on Quadrant Information Services’ database of auto insurance rates.
