I also had to have my car towed once and they were able to send a tow truck my way very quickly and without a lot of effort. However, you PAY for Progressive. In my research, it's definitely one of the most expensive options no matter what coverage level you're at. This wasn't always the case. I have had Progressive for the majority of my time driving (30 years) and their pricing used to be competitive. It does not seem to be anymore. My husband and I have car insurance with Progressive Insurance. At first, it was great. In January of 2026, we paid $509 for 6 months for 2 cars. When we added another, of course, it went up a little bit, which was expected. Then we added a 4th car, and it went up again, which was also expected. After that, we got a notice stating that our insurance was about to be canceled due to us not providing proof of garaging. I had never heard of giving proof of garaging. Then they added my mother-in-law to our policy because we had to stay with her for 2 weeks to help her due to her having surgery. I tried explaining to Progressive that we were not living with her but were just there for 2 weeks to help her out. Then they wanted a copy of her driver's license, and without thanking us, they added her. To my surprise, it went up again, and mind you, her address was different from ours on the license. So, including the $509 for 6 months, we ended up having to pay an additional payment every month. At the end of those 6 months, we ended up paying $4000 for 4 cars and for 2 additional people that were added to our policy that we didn’t ask to be added. When my mother-in-law's license expired, I had to take her off our policy, and the payment went up again for dropping her from our policy. I'm sorry, but that is really frustrating. I want my money back.

The claims representative lied to me and told me it was because parts were on backorder, but the shop was done with the repairs in 2 months. Then I was told that they paid the shop electronically, but I know the owner. He said they sent a check. They also recently canceled my policy because I added a vehicle within 30 days of starting a new policy, then told me it was a state rule. The problem is they are the cheapest option, so I have no choice but to use them or pay a lot more.

Not having received the new policy by the renewal date, and to avoid losing coverage, I paid for the policy without the changes in full and was told the amount I would be reimbursed. Yet, the changes were never processed. After multiple calls, each agent saw, as I did in my account, that they had received the documents and submitted an urgent request to process the changes and my reimbursement ASAP. After 3 months, and through one dedicated agent, a new policy was finally processed, but it was still incorrect and an incorrect refund was issued. I'm still fighting. Now it's time for renewal and they've sent a renewal policy which is still incorrect. FYI, do not change policies, cancel them and create a new one.

I can’t help how others drive, but my monthly payment has gone from $80 to over $155, and I only use the car maybe once a week, going 15-40 miles from home in a farming community, seeing more cows than people! Inflation is one thing, but unadulterated greed is another. I hate to be without insurance, but I am going to cancel … this is LUDICROUS. I am checking on new laws in NM now. Progressive gave us the best rate. The policy was under my husband’s name, and they were wonderful. Everything was going well, and he had a couple of claims, so of course, the policy went up—that's to be expected. But then, for the next two years, it continued to keep going up with no more claims, just higher rates every renewal. We got it for six months. The amount was higher, so we did a quote with Progressive under my name, which lowered the rate by over $200. Everything was great again, no claims, and my rate started to go up. I’ve been with Progressive for three years now, and we’re currently paying $400 a month for two drivers and two cars. I’ve been looking at a lot of quotes, trying to find the best option for us, and I think we’re going with Allstate. This surprised me because I feel like the bigger names usually have a bigger price tag, but I can lower my deductible on Comprehensive. With Progressive, it was $500; with Allstate, the deductible for comprehensive would be zero dollars. Our deductible for collision through Progressive is $500, and through Allstate, the deductible would be $250. We also got added benefits for personal property, medical payments, and custom equipment, and the rate would be $140 less than what it was through Progressive! I will admit that Progressive would’ve gotten five stars for the first year, but due to the increasing rates, I’m rating them 2.5 to 3.
