When I filed a claim last year, they were very helpful and communicated everything, making the whole process simple and easy to understand. My only issue was that my policy kept increasing. My policy renewed every 6 months, and during that time, my policy increased by $75. They couldn’t really explain why, other than mentioning the claim I had a year ago, but that shouldn’t have affected me in these recent 6 months. So I switched policies.

Progressive is an excellent company. I have no complaints. Customer service is awesome. Their rates are pretty reasonable. I recommend using them.

Make sure you have all claims for drivers. It has a significant effect on premiums. Also, have good credit and a good driving history.

Run your quote multiple times on random days because sometimes it's as low as $81, other times it's $125. I pay $118, but when I ran it again, it said $81.

The claim service was fabulous! However, the rates are kind of high.

Progressive has always had the absolute best customer service around. They are quick to respond and have always had fair pricing. I am almost 40 and felt I have been overpaying for insurance for a long time. This did cause me to shop around. It’s very awesome to be able to have lowered my monthly payment so much, finally, and be able to stay with Progressive. However, it is very much a shame that they didn’t already offer me this low rate. I have been a customer of theirs for years and always tend to come back. Occasionally it seems necessary to shop around to be able to lower my rate. And I have noticed every time my policy is coming up for renewal, no matter whom I am with, the rates just always seem to go up, even with a clean driving record and a great credit score.

Ask for all discounts. Research each insurance company you quote with. Make sure you are comparing the same coverage levels.

Lowest rate at the time.

I've been with Progressive for about 17 years, and everything has always gone fine. I've never had a problem.

Great company so far. I had State Farm before, but they kept increasing the price. It's better now.

Since I have a Progressive policy, I am still looking for lower rates. I am sure the rates should decrease for my age and the lack of benefits from the policy.

Cheapest I could find in December 2025 when I was shopping. Shopping now and it went up $150. First quote was a teaser rate to get me to change. Still the cheapest I can find so far. May drop full coverage and gamble with just liability.

Progressive uses Early Warning Services LLC, and for that reason, we are changing insurance companies. The people at Progressive are great, and I do not recall a bad incident, but they are not for me when having to insure a fleet of vehicles. But still a great company.

Never use Progressive—they didn’t match the quote to the full coverage other companies offered. The quote felt misleading, and the service was rude. It seems like they spend a lot on advertising and overcharge customers. I didn’t get helpful customer service, and I was given a quote that didn’t match what I expected, which cost me about $1,000.

When I first got it, they promised my rates weren’t going to go up. But since I started, it’s increased every 6 months. That was in 2024. Now it has doubled. They also say that every year I’m with them, the insurance goes down, but my insurance is due in August and I’m not very happy to pay that amount. Still, I’m paying it.

Online car insurance is okay only if the carrier has a user-friendly and logical online program. Progressive’s wasn’t user-friendly for me.

I don’t like that being a senior (over 75) and a low-mileage driver with no accidents over the last few years doesn’t lower your rates. Plus, I am bundling with homeowners insurance.

They took a direct payment out on the wrong date and then charged a fee.

For a 56-year-old man, I pay way too much for insurance.

I don’t understand why it takes several days for a payment to be removed from my account. No one else works this way. It’s almost like they don’t want you to be able to pay for car insurance. I’ve also heard that they rarely settle within policy limits when you’re involved in a car accident. I don’t understand what I’m paying for.

Three price increases in the past year. I didn’t know about the last price increase until I checked my bank account. I have a flawless driving record and don’t understand why the rate is so expensive. I guess public transit is the way to go.

I was a bit disappointed with how my insurance claim follow-up was handled. Unfortunately, Progressive was handling the claims for both me and the other driver at the same time. I wasn't sure if they could do this fairly, but I had no choice since we both had the same auto insurance company. The police report was a problem from the beginning, and there was no follow-up done—it was simply accepted at face value by Progressive. I would not recommend this insurance company to anyone I know at this point.

Some things are hidden. For example, you’re covered when you rent a car—except for their fees, which can total over $700. They will not fight another insurance company for your deductible, even when it was clearly the other driver’s fault.

The price I was quoted stayed the same. There were no one-time discounts that caused a huge increase after they were removed.

Read the small print; they claim that if you’re paperless, they have no responsibility to notify you about policy termination. I drove for two months without any coverage.

They might need to add a clause that says they won’t raise my premiums for two years.

When we were only insuring one or two people and vehicles, it wasn’t bad. But as soon as we added the rest of our vehicles and drivers, the rates skyrocketed. They wanted $870 a month for four vehicles and four drivers. Allstate, Direct Auto, and another insurer all quoted us $300–$500 for the same policies. I’ll never recommend Progressive again.

The agent at Progressive said they would give me the lowest rate. However, they didn’t explain or offer a lower deductible for a minimal price difference. My husband had an extremely minor car accident, but we had to pay out of pocket because the deductible was $2,500. We’ve changed it now to a much lower deductible for a $9 difference. Very disappointed.

They start out with a lower rate than Geico. Then, after installing a driving-style meter in your vehicle, suddenly all braking becomes more sensitive and your rating goes down.

I think there should be a transparent way to share information with insured drivers about what can raise their rates while they’re covered. Progressive does offer a gadget you can put in your vehicle to track your driving, instead of an app on your phone that records your movements, but I never got a chance to get it. Once you get a hold of customer service, it is helpful.

The only thing I don’t like about Progressive is how extremely long it’s taking for my accident claim to be addressed, and the communication with the claims adjuster has been very poor. I haven’t heard from her at all, and the representative I did speak to was trying to be helpful, but I still have many questions she obviously can’t answer. It’s just frustrating.

When I first decided to use Progressive as my car insurance, I was very pleased with the service. But when it came time to renew in July 2026, I was completely thrown off guard by the customer service I received. My insurance premiums (I had both my home and vehicle insured through Progressive) increased significantly, to the point that I was forced to look at other companies. This whole situation with Progressive has been very frustrating and disappointing. I don’t understand or agree with how they treated me when my renewal time approached. I wasn’t looking to change companies, but I basically had no choice. It’s unfortunate because I thought Progressive was trustworthy and a solid choice, but they were rude, unhelpful, and unprofessional, which was very disappointing. Thank you.

They lie about your member status, telling you one thing on the phone but something else in the app. They change things fairly often with little to no notice to the customer. They also seem to try to sneak in hidden charges until they’re caught, and quite recently I was basically told “too bad” when I said I didn’t want to wait on hold. It feels like a runaround with very few answers or clarification. I will never have my auto insurance with them again.

They just take my money. I haven’t had any tickets, accidents, or incidents in over a decade, and they still won’t give me a discount.

I had two vehicles insured with Progressive. When I dropped one vehicle, my premium almost doubled. They said I lost the multi-vehicle discount. Not good.

Never again! They quoted a good price. My first payment was correct, and I also signed up for autopay. My next monthly payment was over $300, with no notice. When I called, they said they didn’t know why it was so high. They did say my ex-wife was on my account—we’ve been divorced for almost five years—and that my son was also on my account. He lives in another city and has his own insurance with another company. No explanation and no credit back to me. There was an unexpected withdrawal from my account that I didn’t have the funds for. I’m a disabled veteran and make very little money.

Geico is 10 times better than Progressive. I got car and rental coverage for cheaper than Progressive.

I found a very decent price with State Farm, and I will never use Progressive again. My renewal increased my price by $160, and I’m very disappointed with Progressive.

Poor communication. No paperwork for the vehicle and no bill for the monthly payment—nothing. I don’t know if I’m insured or not. You can only text online; there’s no voice or phone access.

I’m upset that my truck got a year older, but my premium still went up $25 a month. Do premiums ever go down?

I'm not very pleased with the price. Despite my age, they are using at least one accident I was involved in, even though I was not at fault.

My husband and I have car insurance with Progressive Insurance. At first, it was great. In January of 2026, we paid $509 for 6 months for 2 cars. When we added another, of course, it went up a little bit, which was expected. Then we added a 4th car, and it went up again, which was also expected. After that, we got a notice stating that our insurance was about to be canceled due to us not providing proof of garaging. I had never heard of giving proof of garaging. Then they added my mother-in-law to our policy because we had to stay with her for 2 weeks to help her due to her having surgery. I tried explaining to Progressive that we were not living with her but were just there for 2 weeks to help her out. Then they wanted a copy of her driver's license, and without thanking us, they added her. To my surprise, it went up again, and mind you, her address was different from ours on the license. So, including the $509 for 6 months, we ended up having to pay an additional payment every month. At the end of those 6 months, we ended up paying $4000 for 4 cars and for 2 additional people that were added to our policy that we didn’t ask to be added. When my mother-in-law's license expired, I had to take her off our policy, and the payment went up again for dropping her from our policy. I'm sorry, but that is really frustrating. I want my money back.

Be careful with the selections you make for your coverage and claims. Ensure that they are covered, as they might appear on your record even if they are not covered.

I'm with Progressive and for the price, I feel like I'm paying for the agent's price plus way more than I should be!

Started out at a good rate. I used their plugin to show I was a good driver and drove only 3,600 miles a year, yet my rate more than doubled in 2 years. No claims, tickets, or anything negative about my driving record. I should have paid no more than $150 for 6 months.

Progressive took 4 months to handle my claim from start to finish. The claims representative lied to me and told me it was because parts were on backorder, but the shop was done with the repairs in 2 months. Then I was told that they paid the shop electronically, but I know the owner. He said they sent a check. They also recently canceled my policy because I added a vehicle within 30 days of starting a new policy, then told me it was a state rule. The problem is they are the cheapest option, so I have no choice but to use them or pay a lot more.

The single worst claim experience I have ever had. It took almost two weeks, and they sent me incorrect valuation/estimate reports on four different occasions, including once where I was sent a report for an entirely different customer.

They kept adding money to my bill secretly every month, thinking I wouldn’t notice. When I finally called them out, they said it was some fee (I had no accidents or anything) and refused to lower my bill, so I switched to State Farm.

Could be a lot cheaper. They don't update the policy when incidents fall off.

My only problem with them is they keep raising my prices even though I drive less than 4k a year with no tickets or accidents in over 60 years!

I was told that my current rate is high in part because at the time I had a foreign driver's license. After sharing the details of my US driver's license, nothing changed.

Progressive gives a low rate to get you, then doubles the rate for the next 6 months with no changes in driving record. BEWARE!
