I have been with them for 11 years and have maintained a good standing. However, this year, I received my statement and I was shocked. I only have one car, a 1998 Saturn SL2, which I bought brand new in August of 1998. Back then, I had two cars, but now I'm down to one. I can't understand why the insurance is so high for just one car. Last year, I was paying $84.13 per month, but now they want $120.06 per month. I'm 77 years old and I don't have extra money. I drive less than 60 miles a day and I'm a very good driver. I used to drive a ten-wheeler dump truck and I had a good record. So, why is the insurance so much?

I never had any issues with Harford. Harford was a really good insurance company, just that they raised the insurance value without warning or giving you notice to prepare for the upcoming increase. In that area, it just wasn't good at all. When you take someone's insurance from 219 to 511 without a warning, I mean, who can really afford that?

The Hartford Insurance is not actually a company in Connecticut. Instead, they farm out their policy holders to a firm called Trumbull Insurance. When you sign up for insurance with The Hartford, it's not made clear that you'll be dealing with a different company altogether, which is a bit misleading. Another issue with The Hartford is that they continually raise rates without providing an explanation. When I contacted them about this, their response was that they've had to pay out a lot for claims and this is how they compensate for the losses. Essentially, you end up being penalized for other people filing claims. Therefore, my advice to potential buyers is to steer clear of The Hartford. The only thing you'll get from them is an unexpected surprise.

I am disappointed with The Hartford. I had a policy for four cars and initially, the rate was great. However, every time my policy renewal came up, my premium increased. I have had no claims, and when I asked why the rate changed, the answer I got was simply that The Hartford has paid a lot out in claims and so they spread the loss cost to all policy holders. I stated that I have had no claims, so I felt I was being penalized for other people's claims. I also found out that there is no such Hartford Insurance Company in Connecticut, but in fact, the insurance policy is through The Trumble Insurance Company. I never signed up with them. Hartford states 'The Buck got your back', but the only thing you get in the back is a bunch of antlers. So, before I get run over by the Buck, which would leave incremental hoof prints and cause another increase because I was in the way, I found a new insurance company that does not have any bucks running around loose.
