Insurance rates can increase by 41% after a single fender-bender claim. The insurance provider does not consider the severity of the accident before deciding on your rate. Minor accidents (no injuries) seem to affect insurance rates in the same way that serious car accidents do.

I bumped into a garage door and filed a claim for $2500. As a result, they more than doubled my premium. My insurance went from $519 to $1080 every six months. Despite having a great driving record, this is a disappointing experience.

I was in an accident and received a ticket at the time. The Hartford immediately added points, a fine, and the ticket to my record that day. I hired a lawyer out of my own pocket and challenged in court that the county had not maintained the traffic light at the intersection. Two lights were burned out. The EMS personnel on scene mentioned that there were several wrecks there that week. I won my case, and the verdict was no points, fine, or ticket. I informed The Hartford, but they refused to remove it from my record.

The Hartford wants to charge me almost double what other companies are willing to charge me. I have had a fender bender while insured with them and I suppose at my age and retirement status, that qualifies me as being a high-risk candidate. Prior to my accident, I was considered a safe driver. I have spent my adulthood in driving jobs, so that does qualify me or put me in a different status or category. I am an extremely careful driver and I have racked up thousands of miles on the road because of my driving history. I am sorry that I will be seeking other insurance coverage because of my increased rates with The Hartford and new sky-high rates for coverage that I want. The Hartford is losing a very careful driver because of its narrow-minded practice against senior citizens.

I'm paying too high for insurance even though I have a perfect driving record and excellent credit.

I felt intimidated by them for an entire year. They explained that my only option to leave would be to have new coverage at the time of the call, or they would report an SR22 to the DMV the same day. I paid yearly, not monthly. They were strong-arming the mentally disabled who are not able to switch monthly. I would not recommend them. My policy expired on the 13th, I received new coverage on the 10th, and they said they owe me no money and were not interested in any new policy information.

After having them for auto insurance, I wanted to bundle my homeowner and auto insurance. I filled out my information and submitted it. Hartford refused to insure my home. No reason was given, just that they were unable to insure my home. I called many other insurance companies and not one refused to insure. Consequently, I will be cancelling my insurance and going with a company that appreciates my business.

They increased my rate by 25% even though I've never had a claim. They blamed the state for the increase, but when I called the commissioner and asked other insurance companies, they said that wasn't true.

The adjuster seemed more interested in selling my house as a real estate agent than in reviewing the damage. The supervising claims person, a female from some midwestern state, was not good in my opinion. As a policyholder for both auto and home, I am now researching other agencies to place my home and auto insurance. My family, neighbors, and others are doing the same.

I've been with them for over 30 years. I've had no claims and no problems, but the price keeps going up for both home and auto insurance. The last straw was when my car was parked in a public parking area with the engine off while I was grocery shopping. My car was hit twice. Once, a vehicle drove the wrong way and struck the passenger side rear of my car. The second time, the same vehicle backed into my rear door and bumper. A shopper told me this but refused to provide their name or get involved. A Publix employee who was picking up abandoned grocery carts also witnessed the incident. It all happened so fast that no license plate information was obtained.

I've been with them for home and auto insurance for some 30 years. I never made a claim until my vehicle was damaged while I was grocery shopping. My car was parked in an appropriate space and was struck on the rear passenger side and rear door. The adjuster seemed more interested in selling my house as he claimed to be a licensed real estate representative. I finally received information from his superior, a woman in another state. She sent me a letter indicating that the damage estimate I submitted was too high, even though it was received from their auto repair company. The estimate went from $1000-1200 to $500. Then they sent me a check for an estimated $250. After 30+ years with no claims, they didn't believe me. I'm about to cancel both my home and auto insurance from Hartford.

The staff is rude. They are unhelpful when suggestions would be beneficial.
