I don’t like 6-month policies compared to a 1-year policy. I see a $90 increase in 6 months for no reason. If this happens again, I will go shopping for another insurer.

I have been thoroughly impressed with Progressive. Actually, I wanted to go with them a while back, but it didn’t work out. I think it’s been a great company to work with. I have had far worse experiences with other insurance companies when it comes to them getting their money. After several months with Progressive, I experienced a situation where my bank changed, and my check wasn't direct deposited on a certain day. They simply told me not to worry about it, that it would automatically withdraw the amount needed when the check was deposited.

There is a limited number of times you can call for roadside assistance. I had a weak battery that caused several calls for jumpstarting.

I would urge my friend to sign up for accident alert. I forgot my phone on top of my car and realized it was there when I was going 60 mph. I heard a thud and thought to myself, "I bet that was my phone," and then suddenly my podcast shut off. I did a big U-turn in the middle of the highway, drove about 500 ft, pulled to the side, and saw a black object on the side of the highway a few feet down. When I picked up the phone, it was shattered. Life 360 called right away and Progressive shortly after. They both wanted to make sure I was okay, as my phone had shown an accident. That is a priceless gift. If you don’t answer at Progressive, they automatically dispatch an ambulance and police to your location.

Just switched to Progressive from State Farm due to poor service from a licensed agent.

They provide good protection for our car, but it's too costly for us. We are on disability incomes.

Never had any problems while I was accident and ticket-free. The one time I had to file a claim as not at fault in an accident, I did not enjoy my experience. I appreciated getting my deductible in the end, but never updating me about repayment of the rental car besides saying that it “could be a while” is subpar.

Progressive will raise rates every 6 months like other companies, so you need to be prepared to call and negotiate for the best price. I've never had a claim, so I have no idea in that department. Thinking about overall service, I would rate them better than average, but they still have some room for improvement.

I really liked Progressive when I first signed up with them for 6 months, and I thought the quote was fair. When I came up for renewal, they increased my premium by $200 for no apparent reason that they would give me. When I complained, they found a discount for around $40 and gave it to me. I just felt like it was a bait and switch approach!

I tried to bundle my homeowner's policy with Progressive. Even though I received mail saying they want my insurance bundled together, they denied my homeowner's policy twice because they don’t insure homes in East Texas. They need to stop advertising that they insure homes in my area when they actually don’t. Otherwise, I get very good auto insurance premiums, which I’m thankful for. I shop each year, and Progressive consistently gives me lower rates than other companies. So, bundling is just a tactic to get more business when it’s not really available.

I can change my policy via the app, which I like. I'll never get used to the tracking software or devices that judge my driving and then adjust my rates up.

My advice is if you are going to Progressive, do it through an agent. Customer service is non-existent.

They overpromise savings! The app has weird glitches that caused me to lose full coverage on one car when adding new full coverage to another. They didn't protect my interest when I had an accident.

Insurance rates rise massively even if you are a safe driver. My rate went up 50% because my area is growing, nothing to do with my individual driving habits.

Price starts low, but after you buy the policy, the price goes up with each renewal. They often change the payment schedule without advance notice.

Progressive is at the lower end of having high rates. They need to follow the rules! The discounts aren't state discounts to them. They follow their own rules! My advice to friends and relatives is to run while you can.

Terrible. I’ve had to report them to the Better Business Bureau before. My vehicle was stolen while I was at work. After it was recovered and they towed it from the police lot, they lost its whereabouts. The gentleman who runs their vehicle theft department claimed I needed to take more responsibility in trying to find my car and it wasn’t on them. They had no clue where my car was. I found it by calling the police lot attendant and asking if they knew where it was being towed to because my claim agent, who was assigned to my case, left for vacation apparently and never reassigned anyone to me, so it was crickets for weeks and I kept getting rerouted. They used my vehicle being stolen as a means to raise my monthly payments because they claimed it was still valued as a reason to raise me. When I was in an accident that wasn’t my fault from a car that slammed into my car 3 cars back and domino effect hit the back of my vehicle, and the other driver being found at fault and paying out, they still used that claim against me as well. Neither being my fault and still used it as an excuse to raise my rates to almost $3,000 every 6 months. I know that is not right.

I drive maybe 5 miles every couple of days, never in my 74 years have I received a ticket, no accidents, no DUI (never drank), no late payments, and still pay over $100 monthly. I think that’s too much!

Be careful going with Progressive or Goosehead as the broker. They quoted me, took my money, set up the policy, and then I was bombarded with requests for documents or they would raise my rates. I sent multiple documents and they would deny them. Ultimately, they have raised my rate by about 15% in less than 60 days with no reasoning. They just do it. Terrible experience. My Goosehead broker straight up told me she doesn't handle that and to call their service department. The agent only wants to sell a policy and wash their hands.

I pay a low price right now for my car insurance. However, it will be renewed next month, and the premium is about $150.00 more every six months. The reason for it is hard braking. I pumped my brakes a few times because I thought they were making noise and because I was using my phone at a stop sign. I've not had a ticket in years or an accident. So this, to me, is very unfair, and that's why I'm going with another insurance company.

I will never use Progressive again. I don’t even drive my car right now as I have health issues. I purchased a six-month policy to comply with my lease agreement, paid for six months, and they still want to increase my rate, now stating that I have not proved I had prior insurance.

They charged me $220 a month for liability insurance for an old 2007 Toyota Corolla. They eventually lowered it to $190 a month when I called and asked. I stuck with the $190 for over a year and tried getting them to lower it again, but they said that's the lowest they can go. I'm in the process of finding another insurance provider.

You get a great starter rate, but when it's time to renew, they remove the first-time customer discount, and that raises your price significantly. For car insurance on a 2005 Ford Five Hundred worth only $2000, they wanted a lot for just state minimum liability only! I’m actually surprised because I’m a really good driver! Fortunately, I have good in-laws who added me to their policy for only $146 for two months. So, rates were increased because of my marriage partner's driving record, who is 10 states away and not ever driving my vehicle!

Very one-sided. We have been long-time customers without ever using the benefits, without having any violations or claims, yet you charge astronomical amounts.

Don't use the Snapshot app on your phone. It runs navigation in the background, causing 100% phone usage and dropping your driving score to 1. They know about the problem and won't fix it or your score. It will cost you a lot. Also, if you do more than a 5 mph reduction in speed in a 100-yard space, you'll get hit with hard braking. These Snapshot people act like they don't drive on congested highways or country roads at all. Personally, I feel like the Snapshot via phone app is problematic.

We are over 70 and drive less than 500 miles a month, yet our insurance coverage is too high for 3 vehicles.

Always contact a live agent regarding issues at hand. Do your research before just agreeing or signing any paperwork. Always read the fine print.

You purchase a car and homeowner policy, and a month later, they raise your rate via a written email! Or your policy was quoted wrong, and you need a new policy quote, and the rates are three times higher than the original policy!

Well, I am upset that they updated my policy when I changed vehicles. I went from a 2008 Equinox to a 2005 Jeep Liberty, and the policy increased by $80 for the same coverage.

The discount is not worth it, and they do not explain fully.

Be careful what you purchase. I have an extremely clean driving record—no accidents, no tickets, no DUIs in close to 40 years—and I’m still paying close to $200 a month for full coverage insurance. Even on a car that was 15 years old, I was still paying that, and I don’t understand why. I also have OnStar that I pay for yearly, which can shut down and locate my car if it's stolen, but that doesn’t count for anything. It's parked in a private yard in a garage, but that doesn’t count for anything either. I drive less than 5 miles a day one way to work, and that doesn’t count for anything. I’m still paying almost $200 a month, and that’s without an agent—just calling an insurance company and calling around to get insurance.

After 3 years, I was promoted to Platinum Loyalty status, but my monthly premium rates were increased to the point that I canceled my policy.

Progressive is a "nice" company and this is how they keep their customers, I think, but their rates are way too high and continually go up whether you have claims or not.

It's just too expensive. I bought a new car in 2019 and I don't even have 6,000 miles on it. Plus, I have no tickets or DUIs, so I'm thinking it's my age? I've asked, but they say no, it isn't. I can pass the test for renewing my license and get a discount; I just haven't yet, but it's easy to pass. I even had a plug-in when I started with them. I left Geico because they raised my rate, which is what Progressive is doing now. It didn't matter if it was California or Nevada. Anyway, that's my story. Oh, and I paid the 6 months upfront and in full as well. Can we find a much better price?

They are a 4-star company. But the first 6-month quote may have been a low-ball. I dropped one vehicle and the cost didn't go down even $1 from the 2-vehicle cost. Then the next premium was 15% higher. No claims. No tickets.

When you go through an agent, please think twice. It's more expensive. I found this out with a friend who has the same insurance and coverages as I do but is paying far less. We are both with the same company.

After only a month on our policy, we received a notification that our policy would be canceled at the end of the month for not satisfying their question about where our vehicle is garaged. We had actually made that known to them twice in writing. However, after calling Progressive, they quickly agreed that we had satisfied their concerns adequately and that our cancellation would be retracted. This whole incident left us in a state of confusion and disbelief, a very unpleasant experience for about 24 hours. Other than that small exception, Progressive has been satisfactory.

The agent was not informative about what I was getting for my money. I had little to no coverage at all. The policy was cheap but should have been free because if I had needed to use it for anything other than liability, I would have lost money.

Ridiculous. I bought my first car at the age of 69 and now can’t drive it because this insurance is too high. Plus, I don't know what my coverage is. I never received any information in the mail. I’ve been driving for 50 years, had a slight accident—a fender bender—and am a defensive driver. I’m using the car to go to church and locally with my own driveway parking, and I’m punished with high-priced insurance. I wish I never bought a car.
