Cost Coverage
I have not had any claims of any sort, so I don't really know. I have been checking out other options as a senior on Social Security. When I get something from you for quotes, most of the time they don't want to do full coverage, and I still want that. So I have found others with full coverage.

They talk a lot about giving you a lot for your money, but you have to ask for every discount; they don’t just offer them. My policies have increased every 6 months even though both drivers have very good records. You have to submit your driving to a safety surveillance program, but it doesn’t seem to help anything even though both drivers have recorded scores well into the nineties. I feel both the auto policy and renters policy are much too high.

Not too big to fail.
Call the rep, go over sections, identify discounts, compare with other insurers, and make sure that the agreed amount is correct. Subsequent emails I received had different amounts than what my internal Progressive account said. I was told the difference was because the internal one included a "renewal," versus a new applicant in my emails. So, one hand not knowing what the other is doing. A bit confusing and wasted my time.

Love to see options for vets and disabled vets. All other things they offer are good
I'm a veteran, so I just wish there were easier ways to get my discounts. Basically, you have to ask or research to get them. I'm 100 percent, so I'm tax-exempt, but they don't offer that benefit. Overall, I picked them because they were the cheapest. Customer service is excellent, very nice folks, and well-educated in their job.

Not so good
Too expensive. They track me everywhere I go and then send emails about raising my rate because I brake and accelerate too much. The only way to get anywhere is to use either Route 35 or Route 9, two major roads with acceleration and deceleration lanes.
John

Blind Decisions
They initially offered a low first payment, but then increased it to a level higher than my budget. There were many mistakes in the paperwork and rewrites. They also asked me to insert a tracker in my car. I was criticized for pulling hard into a turn, which I did to avoid another speeding car cutting into my lane. They also said I brake too hard, but they couldn't see that I was avoiding someone jumping a red light into my right of way. These are judgments they make about things they can't see. I would advise not to accept their Snapshot. They misjudge what they can't see, and as a result, they decide to raise rates and damage an excellent driving record.

Great until it's Not
I have only had experience with Progressive Insurance because my parents have had Progressive insurance for all of our vehicles over the past 20+ years. I was grandfathered in with emerald status when I bought my own car and had to insure my own vehicle, a Ram 1500, with financing. However, the problem arose when we created my own insurance policy. It was supposed to be a "copy and paste" policy of what my parents had, identical in every way. We assumed the agent did what we asked, but when I had my first car accident in March 2025, I discovered my policy did NOT have collision coverage. Somehow, my policy was either changed (without my knowledge) by an agent or it was never added to my policy when I first created it, as we requested. I have never changed my policy for any reason because I never had or wanted to, so when I had my accident, my truck was not covered for "Collision." I only had "Bodily/Property Damage" and "Comprehensive," which is the state bare minimum here in Florida. I rear-ended a lady because the people in front of her slammed on their brakes out of nowhere, causing her to slam on her brakes, and then I slammed on mine, but it wasn't enough. Luckily, I only hit at around 25-30 mph instead of the speed limit of 60 mph. When I called to report the accident and file a claim so her car could get fixed, the agent I spoke with told me they wouldn't be giving me any money to fix my truck (which probably would have been a total loss) because of its age, miles, and condition of my 2009 Silverado. The agent could not find when and where my policy was changed, so my insurance went up from just under $200 to now over $300 because the "Accident Forgiveness" they promote isn't awarded to drivers if you don't have collision coverage on your insurance policy. I have NEVER had an accident in a four-wheeled vehicle since I started driving at 15 years old, and I just turned 33 last year. Yes, I have had traffic tickets for speeding, but less than a total of 5 tickets, and 3 of them were on my sport bike. Since I didn’t have Collision coverage, I don’t get the accident forgiveness benefit. I also lost my safe driver discount and everything related to being accident-free. This insurance cost basically doubled since the accident. This whole story is just to inform people of the negative interaction I have had, BUT I WILL SAY THE AGENTS I SPOKE TO ON THE PHONE WERE AMAZING AND GREAT TO TALK TO. They answered all my questions since I was worried and anxious because it was my first-ever car accident that required insurance involvement. Right now, I’m in the process of shopping around for another car insurance company to try and find a cheaper alternative. I don’t want to switch to another insurance company because I have the "Emerald Status," and that is literally the ONLY reason why I haven’t changed insurance companies. So just beware of possible similar experiences.

Review of Current Progressive Auto Insurance Policy
I feel that my premium is too high for the coverage they provide. I had one accident in 2025, which initially was a hit and run, but the individual was driving a company truck. The insurance company of the business owner took ownership and repaired my vehicle. I have tried to get full coverage for my vehicle from Progressive at a reasonable rate unsuccessfully. The only ticket I have ever received was a parking ticket decades ago, no accidents other than the one I mentioned initially in over 10 years, no DUIs, no speeding tickets ever, and I still can’t get a decent rate.

Swapped from Progressive to Root in 2025
I currently use Root for car insurance, and my experience has been consistently positive, especially when it comes to affordability and rate stability. Root has been more adaptable and helpful in keeping my coverage reasonably priced without sudden premium swings. In comparison, my past experience with Progressive involved frequent and unpredictable rate changes. Even when premiums were adjusted downward, the cost often remained higher than what I previously paid. While Progressive explained these increases as the result of “adjusted values” and premium recalculations, the overall experience made it difficult to budget confidently. What I value most in car insurance is predictability. I don’t want to constantly worry about unexpected price fluctuations or policy changes I didn’t request. Root has been the better option for me because it has felt more consistent and easier to maintain over time.

Poorly Trained Representatives and Lack of Responsibility
The prices are all over the place. We were misguided by an agent who told us we wouldn’t have a problem with a policy price increase if we made a claim for some vandalism. It was just over $4000 to fix a scratch that ran the length of the vehicle's driver side. Apparently, anything over $4000 puts you in a different category, and no one explained our rate would go up $4000. For a long enough amount of time, it wasn't worth it to make a claim or have a low deductible or collision. We should’ve paid out-of-pocket for it. We have had issues maintaining insurance because of false or poorly educated information, and nobody wants to stand behind anything. Including when an employee gives a customer like myself bad information, and that error, that advice we followed and trusted, ends up costing thousands. You’re waiting for a call back from an agent for a rewrite in a policy, and they never call back, so you realize two days later that your policy was canceled without being rewritten. Nobody helped.

Progressive: A Great Insurance Ruined by Greed
So far, so good. My problem with Progressive is that they are trying to get another $263.00 out of me that I do not owe. Two people said they didn't know why, and another told me it was for January. But I canceled way before January 1. I owed them nothing. At first, they wanted $187.00, then it went to $1300.00, then to $300.00, and now it's $253. They can't make up their minds. I had a positive relationship with Progressive, but when I canceled for insurance costing me $179.00 a month, I was told by Progressive I would be paying $344.00 a month after January. I'm on a fixed income and cannot afford that.

Little coverage for slightly lower premium than other companies
They offer the lowest premium, but with $2000 deductibles, no full glass coverage, no rental car coverage, and the requirement of a device to get a discount, the high premium (almost $200 or just over) causes me to choke every month. My car has been down for several months, and the good part about it is that I dropped my policy. I know it will count against me for not keeping coverage, which is a common issue across the industry, but I'm not getting pressured into keeping it. The fact that I will face higher rates is better than handing money to a company that isn't earning it.

Stupid Policy Procedures for NY State
After getting my new policy, within a month they canceled me because of "too many endorsements" within the 60-day window period. I called and spoke to a member of the underwriting team and explained that I traded in 2 vehicles for 2 newer ones. Evidently, I was told I should have waited to do that. The bottom line is they should inform the customer either in a written statement or verbally of this clause. Very disappointed and would not recommend this company to anyone.
