I strongly resent insurance companies penalizing drivers who honestly and willingly admit to having a no-fault accident (no violations and no tickets) by raising their rates, whether on purchase or renewal. It is unethical, and the government agency regulating insurance companies should prevent this action.
Insurance companies penalize drivers based on age rather than the person's actual abilities. They assume that all young adults or all senior adults drive poorly and, therefore, unjustly charge higher rates. It is unethical, and the government agency regulating insurance companies should prevent this action.
Progressive offers Snapshot, providing the driver a nice discount if this program is used. The problem? Snapshot—and I will presume all similar programs with other companies—is calibrated to high sensitivity levels, which incorrectly record the driver's actions. These calibrated high sensitivity levels are unrealistic in the driving world! My friends tell me regularly that I am a good driver, but Snapshot would paint a polar opposite picture. Snapshot is a program that is designed more to control the driver's actions than it is to help improve the driver's abilities or reduce rates.

Very heavy traffic in the Sarasota area!

I think they lack transparency about hidden fees, whether processing or other types. Also, since I have auto payments set up for them to process my 6-month renewal, I did not deserve a banner on my bill payment stating a lapse while the transaction was being processed. I have already been let down by Farm Bureau before regarding what they and other insurance providers have done with these types of statements when I did not have a lapse in auto insurance nor failed to pay. Previously, years ago, my insurance was just under somebody else's policy, and they refused to credit me for at least maintaining coverage at all times. Although Progressive has better rates for me to some extent, I have been with them for 5 years and deserve transparency. Also, it appears they were falsely identifying my driving habits just prior to my policy renewal on January 23rd, thus reducing my Good Driver discount to less than what I deserved.

Well, currently my car is out of commission, so there is no insurance on it because it has been sitting at a mechanic's shop since last year. The only reason I gave the rating that I did for Progressive is that my rate went from roughly $140 to $200 for a so-called minor accident. I am 60 years of age, and my children, specifically the one under 25, pay less than I do, and there were no available discounts. So if and when I get my car back, I’ll probably be going elsewhere. They initially offered a low first payment, but then increased it to a level higher than my budget. There were many mistakes in the paperwork and rewrites. They also asked me to insert a tracker in my car. I was criticized for pulling hard into a turn, which I did to avoid another speeding car cutting into my lane. They also said I brake too hard, but they couldn't see that I was avoiding someone jumping a red light into my right of way. These are judgments they make about things they can't see. I would advise not to accept their Snapshot. They misjudge what they can't see, and as a result, they decide to raise rates and damage an excellent driving record.

I have only had experience with Progressive Insurance because my parents have had Progressive insurance for all of our vehicles over the past 20+ years. I was grandfathered in with emerald status when I bought my own car and had to insure my own vehicle, a Ram 1500, with financing. However, the problem arose when we created my own insurance policy. It was supposed to be a "copy and paste" policy of what my parents had, identical in every way. We assumed the agent did what we asked, but when I had my first car accident in March 2025, I discovered my policy did NOT have collision coverage. Somehow, my policy was either changed (without my knowledge) by an agent or it was never added to my policy when I first created it, as we requested. I have never changed my policy for any reason because I never had or wanted to, so when I had my accident, my truck was not covered for "Collision." I only had "Bodily/Property Damage" and "Comprehensive," which is the state bare minimum here in Florida.
I rear-ended a lady because the people in front of her slammed on their brakes out of nowhere, causing her to slam on her brakes, and then I slammed on mine, but it wasn't enough. Luckily, I only hit at around 25-30 mph instead of the speed limit of 60 mph. When I called to report the accident and file a claim so her car could get fixed, the agent I spoke with told me they wouldn't be giving me any money to fix my truck (which probably would have been a total loss) because of its age, miles, and condition of my 2009 Silverado. The agent could not find when and where my policy was changed, so my insurance went up from just under $200 to now over $300 because the "Accident Forgiveness" they promote isn't awarded to drivers if you don't have collision coverage on your insurance policy.
I have NEVER had an accident in a four-wheeled vehicle since I started driving at 15 years old, and I just turned 33 last year. Yes, I have had traffic tickets for speeding, but less than a total of 5 tickets, and 3 of them were on my sport bike. Since I didn’t have Collision coverage, I don’t get the accident forgiveness benefit. I also lost my safe driver discount and everything related to being accident-free. This insurance cost basically doubled since the accident. This whole story is just to inform people of the negative interaction I have had, BUT I WILL SAY THE AGENTS I SPOKE TO ON THE PHONE WERE AMAZING AND GREAT TO TALK TO. They answered all my questions since I was worried and anxious because it was my first-ever car accident that required insurance involvement.
Right now, I’m in the process of shopping around for another car insurance company to try and find a cheaper alternative. I don’t want to switch to another insurance company because I have the "Emerald Status," and that is literally the ONLY reason why I haven’t changed insurance companies. So just beware of possible similar experiences.

I currently use Root for car insurance, and my experience has been consistently positive, especially when it comes to affordability and rate stability. Root has been more adaptable and helpful in keeping my coverage reasonably priced without sudden premium swings.
In comparison, my past experience with Progressive involved frequent and unpredictable rate changes. Even when premiums were adjusted downward, the cost often remained higher than what I previously paid. While Progressive explained these increases as the result of “adjusted values” and premium recalculations, the overall experience made it difficult to budget confidently.
What I value most in car insurance is predictability. I don’t want to constantly worry about unexpected price fluctuations or policy changes I didn’t request. Root has been the better option for me because it has felt more consistent and easier to maintain over time.

The prices are all over the place. We were misguided by an agent who told us we wouldn’t have a problem with a policy price increase if we made a claim for some vandalism. It was just over $4000 to fix a scratch that ran the length of the vehicle's driver side. Apparently, anything over $4000 puts you in a different category, and no one explained our rate would go up $4000. For a long enough amount of time, it wasn't worth it to make a claim or have a low deductible or collision. We should’ve paid out-of-pocket for it. We have had issues maintaining insurance because of false or poorly educated information, and nobody wants to stand behind anything. Including when an employee gives a customer like myself bad information, and that error, that advice we followed and trusted, ends up costing thousands. You’re waiting for a call back from an agent for a rewrite in a policy, and they never call back, so you realize two days later that your policy was canceled without being rewritten. Nobody helped.
