The only problem was that Progressive said they would contact my old insurance to let them know I have a new policy, but they didn’t. Now they say I owe them money for two weeks of coverage after the cancellation date.

Unexplained Price Raises
It's okay, they raised my monthly payment and when I called and asked why, the lady said it was because of trains. We have no trains in our area; the closest train is over 74 miles away. Then she said it was just the area. Funny thing is, my daughter lives right beside me and hers didn’t raise. I have no accidents or tickets. She also said that it was a rate adjustment. I guess I was the only one to get it.

As anyone should do, keep looking for prices. Some places claim discounts for no accidents in over 3 years. Some offer discounts for low mileage annually. They claim all sorts of discounts but do not deliver. I have yet to find any insurance company that stands behind their statements. Progressive is no different.

I had to cancel my policy after a move because I lost the multi-car discount. Progressive did offer me a discount for taking a renter's policy. However, with the new auto policy came the Snapshot app. In the end, my auto insurance doubled. I had been a policyholder prior to the move for over 5 years. I am on a fixed income and can no longer afford this. I guess I'll be playing the insurance game.

Unforgiving company even with long-time customers
I had Progressive for several years, and after making all my payments on time, I ran into a few problems and was a week or two late with one payment. They canceled my policy immediately, and when I renewed the policy, they raised the price by almost $30 a month. At the next renewal, even though I had a very good score on their tracking device, it was going to go up another $20 a month. I never had any accidents or tickets, so I don’t know why it kept going up.

Less expensive with a catch.
Progressive insists on installing a monitoring device in your car and may raise your rate if they determine you've done something wrong, according to their criteria. For example, if you're rushing to an emergency room, you might be penalized for speeding with a higher rate, no questions asked.

The Worst
I spent an hour talking on the phone with a certified insurance agent who didn’t understand the concept of liability. After an hour on the phone, I was quoted a rate $9 per month lower than I had been paying. They had my car listed as a commute car, and I have been disabled and unable to work for the last 20 years. To make it even more special, they emailed me a quote for more than I had been paying. If they’re this bad at basic policy servicing, imagine their ineptitude handling an actual claim.

Get with the times
For the most part, they're good. But when you have an accident, they want pictures and they give you an estimate from pictures. How can you honestly give an estimate from pictures? If you had a dented bumper or door, yes, a picture would work, but when your car gets rear-ended and then they tell you that body work and painting is done for 70 dollars an hour, what the hell? This isn’t the '90s or even the early 2000s. The estimate process is a complete joke.

Bad Service
I am not happy with Progressive and the team they provided me with. I did not have the support I needed for my case. On top of that, my car is still not made whole. They haven't reimbursed me for my car rental fee, which is $1800, and the tire fee, which is $200, that one of their shops caused. I will be leaving Progressive after this case is closed because of the team I was assigned to, who didn't do their job to make it right for my car.

Progressive? No, not progressive at all.
They would not insure me because I don't have a permanent address as a digital nomad. Then, because I bought a new car, they would not let me go back to the previous non-car policy I had with them to prevent a gap in coverage. Therefore, I either have to keep paying on a car I no longer have or go totally without coverage and can't return to the non-car policy. Totally inflexible, even though I have been a customer for many years. Also, they did not tell me about the non-car coverage after hitting an elk last year, which resulted in a gap in coverage several months later when I bought a car. I want to pay and get insured for a new 'used' car, and they take nothing into account as far as my faithfulness and reliability as a past and current customer. Progressive? NO. Not progressive at all.

No care for loyal customers
Don't waste your money. They'll find any way possible to make extra money. I hit a ladder on the highway because it was either the ladder or another car, and I was made at fault by their underwriter, raising my premium. Then they added my husband, who I am legally separated from, onto my policy without my knowledge. I only found out after my premium went up $130 a month because he was arrested for a DUI, which has nothing to do with me. Then, in order to remove him, I had to make him an excluded driver by signing some paperwork and mailing it in, which makes no sense since we are legally separated and haven't lived together in years. Stay away, that's my advice.

Okay, I have had insurance since I was 16 years old, and I am about to be 42. I've been with a few different companies throughout the years, and never have I once had to send photos of my vehicle from the front, back, and sides, making sure it displays my license plate number along with my registration on every vehicle that I have on my policy, which is three. This is something I have never heard of an insurance company doing when first starting an insurance policy for your vehicle.

Prices are terrible! I am 72, my wife is 68. No tickets, no claims, but insurance goes up anyway. Can't insure my vehicles differently. Have to have the same coverage on both, even though there is a 10-year difference in the age of the vehicles. Can't get the agent I wanted close to my home. You are the worst insurance company that I have had in a long time. The reason for this statement is that when I got the insurance, I was told that I would only be paying $114 a month. Now, you are making me pay more than that, and I am having to pay over $300.00 a month. It is not fair to do what you did to me. I need my insurance so I can take care of my grandson, who is 5, and also my wife, who is on oxygen and needs to go to doctor's appointments 4 times a week. Now you sent me a cancellation notice, and I will lose my insurance on the 22nd of this month because you made my payment so high that I have to go without insurance. You are not letting me pay $114.00 a month. I am begging you to put my insurance back to $114.00 a month. Please help me out so my wife can get to her doctors and my grandson can get to school.

Don't Expect Discounts from a Flawed Program
The Snapshot program that is intended to get drivers discounts is fundamentally flawed. While I believe the intent of the Snapshot program is to encourage positive behavioral change, I find its execution—particularly the plug-in device with audible alerts—to be fundamentally flawed. My concerns focus on the audible alerts triggered during what the system classifies as “unsafe” driving events, most notably “hard braking.” During my participation in the program, I received multiple audible alerts attributed to hard braking. Upon reviewing the corresponding reports in the Snapshot mobile application, I observed that these alerts were recorded as hard-brake incidents. Because the application does not provide a data export function, I manually copied the event data to conduct my own review. In reviewing the overall data, approximately 90% of my recorded driving time resulted in a “Great job!” assessment within the application. Despite this, I was informed that my driving behavior placed me at risk for a premium increase. And yes, my premium has been increased despite having a clean and accident-free driving record.

Progressive needs to be more transparent and proactive...

Price Gouging a Veteran
At the beginning, they gave me a great quote, but after I accepted and paid my insurance upfront, they began to renege on the original offer. They first tried to upcharge me $1,500 more and asked me for 5 years of declaration pages from my former insurance. I had been with my former insurance for 15 years, and they gladly complied with my request to upload and send Progressive the information they asked for. They shared with me that their request was a bit unusual. I ended up paying $600 more.

Progressively Worse, Year After Year
What to say about Progressive? You'll progressively pay more every year, despite having no claims, accidents, or tickets. Add more services and get bundle discounts, they say. What a joke. After bundling multiple policies and having been with Progressive for over 9 years with no reasons for our costs to keep rising, we attempted to get a loyalty discount of any kind—$3 off a month by adding a boat policy (we live in a city) is what we were offered, which cost $31 more for that particular policy, so no actual discount at all.

Progressive Rip Off
I had Progressive for about 12 years, and we were Emerald level clients. After 2 accidents last year, they sent me a non-renewal notice. I was upset, but it turned out to be a blessing because they were charging about $8,800 for full coverage for 3 cars per year. After shopping around online, I found 2 different major companies that offered the same policy for about half the price. I will definitely shop prices every few years from now on.

Insurance Claim
Regarding the claim I had, I thought Progressive would have backed me since I feel that the incident was not my fault. There was nothing I could have done to avoid the e-bike from hitting the rear quarter panel of the passenger side of my car. Instead, they decided to settle the claim. If I were in a better financial position, I would have hired a lawyer and fought this. Well, it is closed now. I sincerely hope my rate does not increase due to this incident. Lastly, I am waiting for a release from the other party's attorney assuring me that he cannot come back to me in the future. Alyssa Watson is supposed to send it to me as soon as she receives it.
