Allstate is extremely overpriced. It appears that they increase the premium before applying discounts, so the discounts don't even make a difference. No tickets or accidents in about 12 years, yet our premium consistently goes up. The only explanation I get is that we're paying for all of the uninsured motorists. So I guess if you pay for insurance, you get penalized for everyone who doesn't. At least that's how Allstate looks at it.

Allstate is terrible. It took over a week for them to send out an adjuster. They had poor communication skills with the repair shop. The repair shop told me they never had so much trouble with an Allstate claim. Then they sent me a check in the mail which took 10 days to get to me. And they don't let you rent a car that is similar to what I drive. So I had to pay an extra $15/day because I needed a car that could adapt to my handicap. The repair took 2 days but it was in the shop for 3 weeks due to Allstate delays.

They are crooks. I have been a licensed driver for 44 years, insured, and this company had me for 3 months on pins and needles with their incompetent ways of taking information and putting the wrong numbers for my account even though they were on auto pay. They charged me for late fees for their errors, and at 69, I could not handle so much. They said my bank declined payment, and this went on for 3 months. Finally, I went to the bank, and my bank told them they had not received a request for payment from them. They still said I had to pay the bill with a late fee. That day I had an appointment with a doctor. Because of all this, I got lost and even got into my first accident. Then they tried to take my vehicle for $1,500. I was able to take my vehicle back and fix it myself for less than those $1,500 dollars, which they said was a total loss. I will not recommend this company.

Allstate is extremely expensive and very overpriced compared to most of their competitors! I got quoted the same coverage at all the top-rated carriers and they all were about half the cost in premiums compared to Allstate! I realized I should have shopped around way sooner instead of overpaying on my auto and condo for years with them. Money down the drain, lesson learned now. I asked my Allstate agent why they were so much more expensive than their competitors. The response was personal touch with local agents. State Farm and American Family have local agents too and are still half the costs. In so many words, the agent said the costs you pay in premiums go to paying the staff at the local agencies. I get that, but I’m paying for a product, not staff salaries! Allstate, pay your agents more, then your rates would probably align more with your competitors. You lost my business.

The adjuster told me that I cannot get more money because it had a new rebuilt engine in it 45 days before and a rebuilt transmission 45 days before that. It had to be 30 days or less. Firstly, never buy insurance online! Although it's convenient (somewhat, because it avoids needing to meet personally with several agents of providers one may be interested in), the online experience rarely, if ever, allows discussion with a real person. Unfortunately, within weeks of getting auto and home insurance with Allstate, we had an auto claim, and it turns out that the agent of record was in Texas when the claim occurred in Ohio, and we live in Pennsylvania. Attempts to connect with the named agent were frequently met with voicemails or text messages. I contacted a local agent to ask if I could have him as my agent of record rather than one over 1,000 miles away. He advised going to the main Allstate website where such a request could be made. Frankly, from a user-friendly perspective, the Allstate site was a nightmare. To add insult to injury, Allstate sent the vehicle to their "preferred" repair shop in the area. After they called to say the car was repaired, my wife and brother-in-law (who has over 30 years of experience in autobody repair and, in fact, managed 5 body shops for over 10 years while he and his wife lived in Alabama) refused possession of the car because the paint they used didn't match the original paint, and the clear coat was not properly buffed into the original. That caused an additional 2-week delay in the return of our car. In addition, the Chevrolet dealership tried to use the opportunity to market a new car when there was never a mention of any intent to purchase a new car. I am, at present, searching for a company other than Allstate to insure both my home and auto.

My current insurer is Allstate. I had an unfortunate year in 2024. A dog ran in front of us and did major damage to our front end. A few short weeks later, an 18-wheeler blew a rear dual tire that hit our Jeep and caused us to spin and slam into a guardrail. Neither accident was our fault nor could they be avoided. The consequence was that our premiums have almost tripled and continue to rise. They know it will be difficult for us to change policies. Our credit rating is not exceptional due to a limited income and the huge rise in premiums and other bills. As soon as I can change insurance carriers, I will. No customer loyalty. Allstate wouldn't tow my vehicle to a shop of their choice or even tell me a real body shop where I could take the vehicle to have it repaired at the price they said it could be repaired for.
