My Experience with Allstate
I honestly believed Allstate was a good insurance company until I discovered what had been happening with my policy.
Three years ago, my vehicle was involved in an accident caused by another driver and was totaled. I contacted Allstate to have the vehicle removed from my policy. Instead, the vehicle was suspended, and I continued paying insurance premiums on a vehicle I had not had in my possession for approximately three years. Allstate also handled the claim, so the company was aware that the vehicle had been totaled.
After recently discovering this, I realized that I had paid approximately $2,000 in premiums for a vehicle I no longer owned or possessed. I had previously contacted my local agent about the vehicle, but unfortunately, the issue was never properly taken care of.
It has now been about two weeks of trying to get this resolved. I have been going back and forth and playing phone tag with Allstate’s corporate office. As of this review, the matter is still being investigated, so I am hopeful that Allstate will make this right and resolve the situation fairly.
What is especially frustrating is that my insurance premiums continued to increase over the years, and the explanation I was given was that the increases were due to the area where I lived. I never thought to question whether I was still being charged for a vehicle that had been totaled years earlier.
This experience has definitely changed the way I look at my insurance. My advice to anyone with insurance is to pay close attention to your premiums, review your policy regularly, and make sure you know exactly what you are being charged for. Don’t assume everything is correct just because you have been with an insurance company for years.
I am still hoping Allstate will resolve this appropriately. How they handle this situation from here will determine whether I can continue to recommend them as an insurance company.

Terrible. My policy was canceled automatically for a declined payment. I had my card closed due to fraud issues and didn’t realize my policy was canceled because I received no notification or phone call, but I was still being charged every month through the automatic withdrawals showing on my statements. That meant I had been driving uninsured for months.
I became aware of this because I called to add two more vehicles to my policy and was then told I didn’t have one for the reason above. I bought insurance through General Insurance affiliated with Allstate and called again to ask about adding more vehicles. I was given a quote for $96/month. I agreed, and then I was told she couldn’t offer me that anymore and that I needed to make a payment the next day. Since when do you get a quote, accept it, and then get told it’s no longer offered?

How I found out was a note from Comed letting me know of the fact! But wait, it gets better because the insurance agent who convinced me to leave State Farm, after narrowing down exactly what I wanted, which included a $500 deductible, input it into the system as a $1000 deductible. So, on the day of my misfortune, I got that bad news as well. Not to mention, they took close to 3 months to get my money back from Comed. So, I'm looking to maybe switch to a better option.
