The representative offered me higher liability coverage for a good price, but I don't want or need it. When I questioned another representative, she was snippy and said they don't just provide basic state coverage, which is not true. I'm not really happy with them as it seems like they're looking to make a commission at my expense and lying about it. I'm looking around now that renewal is about to go into effect.

We've had insurance with Allstate since 1975. Due to our age, the rates are high, and we are considering Liberty Mutual. We need full coverage for the price we're paying.

Overpriced and Overrated
Nothing wrong with Allstate. The cost is extremely high considering the coverage and age of the car. I am the only driver and I don't use it every day. I feel like we're being punished while driving. I drive for myself and others. Speed has nothing to do with driving fast and hitting the brakes hard. I hit my brakes to prevent running over drivers who pull in front of me or cut me off while changing lanes or stopping immediately in front of me. I speed to avoid being run over at times, depending on the circumstances. I have a hands-free phone.

All companies have high rates, but Allstate offers many credits for good drivers. We have had no tickets or accidents in years and we appreciate receiving credit and lower premiums for our diligence. Also, we like speaking with a local office instead of searching online.

At startup, issues signing up for AUTO PAY were very frustrating. I was labeled via mail as having a bad bank account and lost discounts. It was discovered that it was their fault. Very Disappointed
I would not recommend this company at all. Although my agent is very nice and has helped me as much as possible, the actual company, Allstate, has let me down significantly. When I transferred one policy to another, they told me I had full coverage, and then when I was in an accident, they informed me that I do not have collision coverage. This should never have happened because I am financing this vehicle, so I needed full coverage, which includes collision coverage. Now I just keep getting pushed to the side, and no one knows how or why it happened, and no one is rectifying this mistake, so I am literally in limbo waiting for someone to fix their mistake. I am out of a vehicle because I can't get my rental due to the lack of collision coverage.

Car insurance should be optional, not mandatory
Allstate is extremely overpriced. It appears that they increase the premium before applying discounts, so the discounts don't even make a difference. No tickets or accidents in about 12 years, yet our premium consistently goes up. The only explanation I get is that we're paying for all of the uninsured motorists. So I guess if you pay for insurance, you get penalized for everyone who doesn't. At least that's how Allstate looks at it.

Not getting what I expected with SR-22 coverage
Compared to other insurance companies these days, I am paying more than double what I could be paying. I don't have towing, nothing covers my clutch or any mechanics. I'm getting penalized because of the SR-22, which was over 3 years ago. I'm trying to find another insurance company where I could pay less. I'm a poor man, I live on one security check a month, and when I can't even get towed from an accident, that really sucks.

You're not in good hands
Allstate is terrible. It took over a week for them to send out an adjuster. They had poor communication skills with the repair shop. The repair shop told me they never had so much trouble with an Allstate claim. Then they sent me a check in the mail which took 10 days to get to me. And they don't let you rent a car that is similar to what I drive. So I had to pay an extra $15/day because I needed a car that could adapt to my handicap. The repair took 2 days but it was in the shop for 3 weeks due to Allstate delays.

Shame on them. Just because I'm a senior citizen they wanted to take advantage of me.
They are crooks. I have been a licensed driver for 44 years, insured, and this company had me for 3 months on pins and needles with their incompetent ways of taking information and putting the wrong numbers for my account even though they were on auto pay. They charged me for late fees for their errors, and at 69, I could not handle so much. They said my bank declined payment, and this went on for 3 months. Finally, I went to the bank, and my bank told them they had not received a request for payment from them. They still said I had to pay the bill with a late fee. That day I had an appointment with a doctor. Because of all this, I got lost and even got into my first accident. Then they tried to take my vehicle for $1,500. I was able to take my vehicle back and fix it myself for less than those $1,500 dollars, which they said was a total loss. I will not recommend this company.

It's Okay - but there's better out there.
Handling claims when you are not at fault is easy, but the agents are so overwhelmed with clients that getting to talk to one to get discounts or align on the policy is horrendous. You end up with their 24/7 customer service instead.

Disappointed
I don't like the fact that Allstate raised my car insurance. Also, there were some add-ons without my consent. Since the add-ons, my insurance has gone up. I was told when I first applied for insurance that my insurance would decrease, but it has not. I am so disappointed with Allstate. Their agents are very unprofessional; they argue back and forth. I made a very bad mistake choosing Allstate as my insurance carrier, and I will never recommend them to any of my friends or family members. My son tried to warn me about Allstate; I just wish I had listened.

Stay away from Allstate
Allstate is extremely expensive and very overpriced compared to most of their competitors! I got quoted the same coverage at all the top-rated carriers and they all were about half the cost in premiums compared to Allstate! I realized I should have shopped around way sooner instead of overpaying on my auto and condo for years with them. Money down the drain, lesson learned now. I asked my Allstate agent why they were so much more expensive than their competitors. The response was personal touch with local agents. State Farm and American Family have local agents too and are still half the costs. In so many words, the agent said the costs you pay in premiums go to paying the staff at the local agencies. I get that, but I’m paying for a product, not staff salaries! Allstate, pay your agents more, then your rates would probably align more with your competitors. You lost my business.

Rising Rates, Zero Loyalty Considerations
They have been a good company for paying out on claims, but loyalty gets nothing in consideration to rates. I have been with them since 1982 and my rates are through the roof. They are always raising and NEVER offering a lower rate. I’m curious how much of my rate goes to agent commission.

Poor Insurance Company for Their Clients
From an accident that I had, which was not my fault, I felt like they lowballed my settlement for the vehicle. They told me the other insurer would not pay more than that, even if their driver was at fault. I believe I could’ve gotten more money. The adjuster told me that I cannot get more money because it had a new rebuilt engine in it 45 days before and a rebuilt transmission 45 days before that. It had to be 30 days or less. I feel like I was ripped off, and how could I recommend them if this is the way my insurer is going to handle me?

Don't assume correct information will be part of your policy. I had to correct my address and phone number twice. The ID restoration policy never appeared on my policy page. Not everyone who answered the phone could see this policy either. I had the credit bill as proof, but no proof from the insurance that I had it. It wasn't until a year later and several phone calls that I found someone who could confirm that indeed I had this protection. I am changing companies next month.

Allstate's Preferred Repair Shop Issues
Firstly, never buy insurance online! Although it's convenient (somewhat, because it avoids needing to meet personally with several agents of providers one may be interested in), the online experience rarely, if ever, allows discussion with a real person. Unfortunately, within weeks of getting auto and home insurance with Allstate, we had an auto claim, and it turns out that the agent of record was in Texas when the claim occurred in Ohio, and we live in Pennsylvania. Attempts to connect with the named agent were frequently met with voicemails or text messages. I contacted a local agent to ask if I could have him as my agent of record rather than one over 1,000 miles away. He advised going to the main Allstate website where such a request could be made. Frankly, from a user-friendly perspective, the Allstate site was a nightmare. To add insult to injury, Allstate sent the vehicle to their "preferred" repair shop in the area. After they called to say the car was repaired, my wife and brother-in-law (who has over 30 years of experience in autobody repair and, in fact, managed 5 body shops for over 10 years while he and his wife lived in Alabama) refused possession of the car because the paint they used didn't match the original paint, and the clear coat was not properly buffed into the original. That caused an additional 2-week delay in the return of our car. In addition, the Chevrolet dealership tried to use the opportunity to market a new car when there was never a mention of any intent to purchase a new car. I am, at present, searching for a company other than Allstate to insure both my home and auto.

Hidden Policy Agenda
Find out the hidden information that they don’t explain from the beginning regarding policy increases if you don’t sign up for their discount program called Drive Wise. This program monitors your driving, and you have to drive a certain number of miles within their time period to get the discount. When you meet the required miles, you receive a discount, which takes six months for them to apply to your bill.

Taking Full Advantage of a Loyal Customer
My current insurer is Allstate. I had an unfortunate year in 2024. A dog ran in front of us and did major damage to our front end. A few short weeks later, an 18-wheeler blew a rear dual tire that hit our Jeep and caused us to spin and slam into a guardrail. Neither accident was our fault nor could they be avoided. The consequence was that our premiums have almost tripled and continue to rise. They know it will be difficult for us to change policies. Our credit rating is not exceptional due to a limited income and the huge rise in premiums and other bills. As soon as I can change insurance carriers, I will. No customer loyalty. I had never missed a premium.
