High rates and hard to add discounts
They provide good services for auto insurance, but the homeowners' insurance never covered any issues I had. Customer service was better in the past. Now, they require the customer to take pictures of any damage, and they decide on reimbursement based on these pictures. Their rates have been increasing rapidly, and trying to add discounts has been difficult.

I Love USAA Insurance
I can always access my information on the app. If I ever need to call, the agents are always very friendly, professional, and helpful. My issues, concerns, or questions are always resolved in the first call. I love USAA, but unfortunately, I can only recommend it to those who have served or had parents that served in the military and were members of USAA.

USAA Review
The quality of the service/product has declined over the 40+ years I’ve had the coverage. However, the price has always been competitive, but the advantages are becoming less significant. I suspect that the increase in national advertising expenses, which was not a factor before, might be affecting the product's pricing. I used to utilize all USAA services like investing, credit cards, banking, and insurance. Now, I only use their banking and insurance services because of banking convenience and competitive insurance prices. The banking operations seem to become more miserly and fee-centric, especially with ATM fees. Considering there are no real branch banks, they should increase their ATM fee reimbursements.

USAA Satisfaction Rating
Almost 100% of the staff members are very helpful and kind! I love that when you call about an event, the first thing they ask is, 'Are you okay?' It's also kind to receive a sympathy card from them. However, I don't understand why, just because my husband passed away and I am adding my name to the policy as his widow, I am being treated like a new policyholder. For home insurance, they are asking for pictures of the house and now demanding I get a new roof. It was fine before my husband passed away, so why is it a problem now? My bank was notified that my homeowners insurance was cancelled, which is incorrect. The name was just changed on the policy. We were married for almost 40 years when he passed, so why all these unnecessary difficulties?

Give Us a Break!
One would think that the length of time you have been with a company and the absence of any claims would result in better rates. However, USAA doesn't seem to offer much, if any, discount. Additionally, the car insurance is quite high when you have no claims. I just wish they could offer us a better rate.

I have been with USAA since 1973. Over the last 52 years, USAA has lost focus on their original mandate of serving Officers in the Air Force. Personally, I feel they decided at some point to compete with the big guys. As soon as they did that, they were drawn into the pool of greed. Gone are the days of feeling we have an intimate, dedicated forum for us. Of course, at 84, I'm set in my ways and not very flexible. Cheers!

My experience with this company has been disappointing, especially this second time around. I would suggest considering other options. USAA is the worst.
While filing an insurance claim with USAA is a breeze, the monthly payments are not. For just liability with a tow option, I was paying well over $200. In the almost 18 years I’ve been with them, payments have never been under $200. There is no loyalty discount or safe driving discount. I would recommend considering other options like GEICO or Progressive.

USAA Then and Now
Back when I first joined USAA as a new naval officer, it was only available to military officers and their families. It has greatly expanded since then. It has never been the cheapest insurance, but the service was spectacularly good. It still isn't the cheapest, but the service has declined to no better than average. Now, after 62 years as a member, I've started to explore cheaper alternatives with the same or better service levels.

Unsatisfactory Experience with USAA
I would advise against using USAA. Two years ago, we purchased a 2010 Toyota Highlander with a salvage title for approximately $10,000.00, a price that was deemed fair by our research and mechanic. USAA agreed to provide full coverage for this vehicle, along with two others. However, when my wife was involved in a rear-end collision, USAA declared our Highlander a total loss and offered us a mere $2900.00. They mentioned that any significant expenses incurred within the last year could be reimbursed. They also suggested that if I could find a similar Toyota Highlander, they might reconsider their offer. I managed to find a Highlander one year older with 10,000 more miles for around $9000.00, and they increased their offer by $500.00 to $3400.00. Meanwhile, the company to which they had already sold our totaled Highlander was pressuring me to complete their paperwork. I refused to do so until we had reached a settlement with USAA. Upon reviewing the specifics of their settlement value, I discovered that they had deducted $1400.00, claiming the car had an oil leak, which it did not. So, the offer should have been $4800.00. We had recently replaced the back-up camera assembly for about $1400.00, which should have added value to the settlement. However, I couldn't locate the receipt for that repair. Due to being busy at work and having already purchased another car, I postponed following up. Then, they sent us a check for $1583.00. I contacted USAA to express my dissatisfaction with this settlement, but they have stopped returning my calls. I feel that USAA has not provided satisfactory customer service and has not treated us fairly.

USAA
The company is very intrusive. If I use the GPS on my phone while driving, I receive a message telling me how much time I was on my phone. I braked harshly three times; twice to avoid hitting a deer and once when a child ran into the street. USAA sent me a text warning about harsh braking. Being with USAA is like having a backseat driver 24/7; you have no privacy with them.

Disappointing Experience with USAA
I'm disappointed with USAA. I've been with them for seven years, having full coverage auto insurance for my financed Nissan Sentra, which I was paying $249 a month for. After paying it off and getting rid of it, I purchased a 2020 Nissan Altima. Now, USAA is charging me close to $400 a month for full coverage, despite no accidents or lapses in insurance. I've spoken to customer service, but all I get are lies and the runaround.

No Frosting on the USAA Cake
Be prepared for poor phone service! They heavily rely on their website and have limited email contact. Many of those who answer calls seem to be confined to words and terms that they have been directed to use. When it comes to contested rate increases, the standard response is 'inflation'. This is totally unsatisfactory! It didn't use to be this way. I've been with them since 1966, but their attitude rarely shows any appreciation.

USAA is a decent insurance company but they don't really take care of veterans as they claim to. They should aim to offer the best pricing to help their customers save money. That's why I'm shopping around for new insurance companies. There are others out there that offer the same coverage for a lot less. I've been loyal to USAA for a very long time. They should reciprocate by offering prices that are lower or equal to other companies.

Why I am searching for new insurance
Everything was fine until this year's renewals came up. I'm 84 years old, never had an accident or ticket, and have been driving for 59 years. They doubled my insurance cost. The same happened with my household insurance; never a claim, yet they doubled it too. I served my country for 8 years and this is how we get treated?

Beware
It's very frustrating! The best thing about them is their price. However, their security protocols are quite aggravating and their customer service is poor at best. Every time I call them and speak with a different person, I get a different answer. I have been with them for over 8 years and despite not having so much as a parking ticket, they have continually raised my rates. I am 64 years old with a very clean driving record, yet I am paying over $1200 a year.

Disappointed with USAA
USAA required me to make an $880 deposit because I had several late payments. I was dealing with a personal situation, as I spent months caring for my sister who was battling ALS. I thought that USAA would show some compassion and understanding for my circumstances, but that was not the case. I initially believed USAA was better than other insurance companies, but this experience has left me disappointed. It's unfortunate that the human element seems to be missing.
