The quality of the service/product has declined over the 40+ years I’ve had the coverage. However, the price has always been competitive, but the advantages are becoming less significant. I suspect that the increase in national advertising expenses, which was not a factor before, might be affecting the product's pricing. I used to utilize all USAA services like investing, credit cards, banking, and insurance. Now, I only use their banking and insurance services because of banking convenience and competitive insurance prices. The banking operations seem to become more miserly and fee-centric, especially with ATM fees. Considering there are no real branch banks, they should increase their ATM fee reimbursements.

I would advise against using USAA. Two years ago, we purchased a 2010 Toyota Highlander with a salvage title for approximately $10,000.00, a price that was deemed fair by our research and mechanic. USAA agreed to provide full coverage for this vehicle, along with two others. However, when my wife was involved in a rear-end collision, USAA declared our Highlander a total loss and offered us a mere $2900.00. They mentioned that any significant expenses incurred within the last year could be reimbursed. They also suggested that if I could find a similar Toyota Highlander, they might reconsider their offer. I managed to find a Highlander one year older with 10,000 more miles for around $9000.00, and they increased their offer by $500.00 to $3400.00.
Meanwhile, the company to which they had already sold our totaled Highlander was pressuring me to complete their paperwork. I refused to do so until we had reached a settlement with USAA. Upon reviewing the specifics of their settlement value, I discovered that they had deducted $1400.00, claiming the car had an oil leak, which it did not. So, the offer should have been $4800.00. We had recently replaced the back-up camera assembly for about $1400.00, which should have added value to the settlement. However, I couldn't locate the receipt for that repair. Due to being busy at work and having already purchased another car, I postponed following up. Then, they sent us a check for $1583.00. I contacted USAA to express my dissatisfaction with this settlement, but they have stopped returning my calls. I feel that USAA has not provided satisfactory customer service and has not treated us fairly.
