I'm disappointed that despite not filing any auto insurance claims in Tennessee for the past two years, my premium was raised. This increase was justified by the company as a response to a general rise in claims and a trend of rate hikes across all insurance companies. This happened during a time when everything else in life also became significantly more expensive. I felt as though I was being penalized for the actions of those who did file claims. Additionally, I would have appreciated the option to purchase higher liability limits for my SR-22 policy. Given that most vehicles, even used ones, cost well over $50,000 in 2023, the $50k property damage limit seems inadequate. It would only fully cover about 8% of motor vehicles currently on the road, leaving the other 92% of vehicles potentially underinsured.

The price that they quoted me online didn't change when I signed up. Many of the other companies I looked at gave one quote online, but when I went to sign up, they changed the price by at least $50.00 to $70.00. This was different from the online quote.

I'm giving them 4 stars! They seem to charge a bit more when making payments in person versus online. I don't think that's fair, as there are still many people who don't know how to navigate the internet. Some barely know how to make a phone call on a cell phone.

They're average, and high-priced for someone who's a senior with no violations, accidents, tickets, etc. I drive less than 50 miles a week. My car is a 2003-2004 Chevrolet Suburban in mint condition. It looks like new, and everyone thinks it's a 2020+ model. It was a fleet car in storage, and the original owner sold it to me. It's kept in a garage, and I'm the only driver, yet I'm paying $410.00 monthly! I think it's disrespectful to charge me like a repeated offender. I don't think that's fair. I need a change!

They're Just Not Workable
The salesperson isn't clear enough. When you ask a question during the sales pitch, they send you an estimate and charge you an estimate fee. Then, four weeks later, they send you a bill for the remaining part. The mobile payments that I originally set up were supposed to be on the fifth of the month. However, they lowered it to the 25th and I don't get paid until the fifth of the month.

What I Don't Like About The General
At first, it was good, but as the years went by, the rates increased every year. I contacted The General to ask why the prices kept going up. The answer was that more people were moving to Colorado, and that's why the insurance was increasing. I don't understand why I couldn't get some kind of break as I had no tickets or DUIs. Also, I'm on a fixed income and I need my car for doctor's appointments, picking up medications, and visiting family. I believe that $85.66 might not seem like a lot to some, but this is just for what the state requires.

My experience with the General was terrible. They cancel your policy the day before they ask for the payment so they can increase your rate. They are the worst. They will just cancel your policy without notifying you, as they cancel the policy at 12:01am on the day your payment is due instead of 11:59pm the same day. This could lead to policy cancellations and lapses in insurance. They are the worst, I recommend going with another agency.

They were the only place that would insure me when I needed it, so kudos for that. However, when it was time to renew and pay my 6-month premium, there was no flexibility or cheaper rate. It was just way too expensive considering the past 6 months had been excellent. Lastly, the customer service was disappointing. Chatting online was a long process, and calling in was a nightmare because it's all AI. Trying to get a human on the phone was quite a challenge.

Not good, customer service couldn't get my account straight with the information I gave them. They keep billing me on the incorrect date that I can pay the premium.
