It was a great insurance company.

To be honest, it's expensive, but it was the first place I looked.

I like The General, but I have a limited income. I'm 61 years old and just exploring my options.

I'm disappointed that despite not filing any auto insurance claims in Tennessee for the past two years, my premium was raised. This increase was justified by the company as a response to a general rise in claims and a trend of rate hikes across all insurance companies. This happened during a time when everything else in life also became significantly more expensive. I felt as though I was being penalized for the actions of those who did file claims. Additionally, I would have appreciated the option to purchase higher liability limits for my SR-22 policy. Given that most vehicles, even used ones, cost well over $50,000 in 2023, the $50k property damage limit seems inadequate. It would only fully cover about 8% of motor vehicles currently on the road, leaving the other 92% of vehicles potentially underinsured.

They aren't proactively offering me any way to reduce my cost.

I really haven't had much interaction with them to form a solid opinion. I gave them a 4 because, at the time I chose them, they offered me the cheapest rate. However, I didn't want to rate them any higher than four, as I haven't had any further interaction with them.

The payment process is easy. ID cards are always available. I've never had a claim, so that piece of your services is unknown to me.

I'm giving them 4 stars! They seem to charge a bit more when making payments in person versus online. I don't think that's fair, as there are still many people who don't know how to navigate the internet. Some barely know how to make a phone call on a cell phone.

The coverage was good, but it was really expensive for first-time car owners. As my first insurance company, they made me spend a lot of money. I paid over $500.00 a month ($540.00 to be exact) for the bare basics. Now that my year-long contract is over, I will not be using any of their policies unless they lower their rates. However, their customer service was nice and their open hours were perfect for me because I work from 8:30 to 4:30. Even with my defensive driving discount, it barely made a dent. The General randomly increased my insurance without asking me, saying it's an 'automatic thing' they do. This didn't sit well with me because I never asked for an upgrade and they did it without my permission. It scared me because they gave me a bill that was a little bit over $600.00. As someone who makes about $30,000.00 a year after taxes, I don't have $600.00 just lying around. I have mixed feelings about The General. If you're going to spend any kind of money that's $500 or more, please consider a better insurance company and don't make the same mistake I did.

Never get insurance from The General. You may ask for uninsured motorist and full coverage, and pay for it, but never receive it. I had to call three to four times a week.

Adding or cancelling a vehicle on your policy takes at least a few days. I don't like that. Life doesn't happen that way. It also costs too much.
