I like The General, but I have a limited income. I'm 61 years old and just exploring my options.

I'm disappointed that despite not filing any auto insurance claims in Tennessee for the past two years, my premium was raised. This increase was justified by the company as a response to a general rise in claims and a trend of rate hikes across all insurance companies. This happened during a time when everything else in life also became significantly more expensive. I felt as though I was being penalized for the actions of those who did file claims. Additionally, I would have appreciated the option to purchase higher liability limits for my SR-22 policy. Given that most vehicles, even used ones, cost well over $50,000 in 2023, the $50k property damage limit seems inadequate. It would only fully cover about 8% of motor vehicles currently on the road, leaving the other 92% of vehicles potentially underinsured.

The price that they quoted me online didn't change when I signed up. Many of the other companies I looked at gave one quote online, but when I went to sign up, they changed the price by at least $50.00 to $70.00. This was different from the online quote.

They aren't proactively offering me any way to reduce my cost.

It looks like new, and everyone thinks it's a 2020+ model. It was a fleet car in storage, and the original owner sold it to me. It's kept in a garage, and I'm the only driver, yet I'm paying $410.00 monthly! I think it's disrespectful to charge me like a repeated offender. I don't think that's fair. I need a change!

The General was okay. It was just too expensive in the first place.

The salesperson isn't clear enough. When you ask a question during the sales pitch, they send you an estimate and charge you an estimate fee. Then, four weeks later, they send you a bill for the remaining part. The mobile payments that I originally set up were supposed to be on the fifth of the month. However, they lowered it to the 25th and I don't get paid until the fifth of the month.

They will just cancel your policy without notifying you, as they cancel the policy at 12:01am on the day your payment is due instead of 11:59pm the same day. This could lead to policy cancellations and lapses in insurance. They are the worst, I recommend going with another agency.

Improper payout for damages, high prices

My insurance is too high considering my low mileage. I don't drive much, have never had an accident, and I'm a senior.

Don't choose The General. They are very high priced for the lowest coverage.

The coverage was good, but it was really expensive for first-time car owners. As my first insurance company, they made me spend a lot of money. I paid over $500.00 a month ($540.00 to be exact) for the bare basics. Now that my year-long contract is over, I will not be using any of their policies unless they lower their rates. The General randomly increased my insurance without asking me, saying it's an 'automatic thing' they do. This didn't sit well with me because I never asked for an upgrade and they did it without my permission. It scared me because they gave me a bill that was a little bit over $600.00. As someone who makes about $30,000.00 a year after taxes, I don't have $600.00 just lying around. I have mixed feelings about The General. If you're going to spend any kind of money that's $500 or more, please consider a better insurance company and don't make the same mistake I did.
