Don't choose Direct Auto! I had to pay extra after a month because their Dynamic Drive App didn't work for European phones and appeared to them as not activated, even though I did activate it. This is frustrating! It also tracks you everywhere, even outside the US, despite an agent assuring me it wouldn't. The price is exorbitant for a foreigner with 10 years of driving experience in Europe. Driving in the US feels more dangerous as rules are often ignored. Charging $2.5k for 6 months of auto insurance feels like extortion! Additionally, you spend 30 minutes to an hour on the phone to set up the insurance. Coming from Europe, I've never seen such a bureaucratic and inefficient system!

My original rate was changed three separate times after I switched to Direct Auto due to the lower quote I was originally given, even though nothing changed on my driving report, credit report, etc. They had excuse after excuse over the course of the next 2-3 months about why my rate was going up. On top of that, they would not accept my proof of continuous coverage from my previous company/policy, knowing that you cannot drive a financed vehicle without continuous coverage. I was also told after six months of continuous coverage with Direct Auto, I would qualify to call in and ask for a reduction in my rate. That did not happen either! Needless to say, my experience with Direct Auto was horrible. I shopped around after I was denied the reduction and found insurance one step up from the basic state requirements that I had with Direct Auto, and it was still $200 or so cheaper than what Direct was offering me. I do not recommend them to anyone. Do your due diligence and shop around!

Very poor because if you are late by 10 days, they cancel your policy. They basically don’t want you to be late at all. Most places allow you to be late by a month and then you pay your insurance along with the late fee. Not here. If you're late, your insurance was due on the third, and you try to pay on the 12th, your insurance is already canceled.

My experience was terrible. Initially, I chose coverage with a $500 deductible, and the payment was supposed to be between $67-68. However, I ended up with a $1,000 deductible and a first payment of $99. I was told it was going to be $90, so that amount was also deducted - resulting in two payments, neither of which were returned. When I called customer service, I encountered a rude agent who told me not to send in my photo of where the two payments were taken out because one would be returned - which has never happened. Then, I was asked for documentation of my mortgage account. The whole process has been a mess and I want to cancel, but I haven't called back because I fear I might get another unkind agent who doesn't know how to set up my new policy. I am a very unhappy customer.

Direct Auto doesn't really offer good rates for the coverage you get. I had the bare minimum and the price I paid was higher than it should have been. Whenever I received quotes while looking for a new company, Direct Auto's quote was always lower than what I had been paying. I hope to find a better company that also offers rental coverage at a good price. I'm a senior citizen who barely drives my car and has no tickets or accidents. Shouldn't that count for something? Why does your credit score have anything to do with an insurance policy, especially when I use auto pay? My driving record is what matters, not my credit score. Credit scores aren't based on driving history and they change all the time due to life changes. So, stop basing insurance rates on credit scores. It's not fair to those of us who have a great driving record.
