In 2016, I was sitting at a red light, the third car back, when an individual with no insurance hit me from the rear and totaled my Nissan pickup. I was insured with Safeco, and they immediately took up the case. They provided me with the money I was entitled to and helped me get another automobile very quickly. The agent I currently work with is very accommodating and seems to prioritize my best interest. I haven't submitted any other claims for automobiles or homes insured with Safeco that I own. That's why I gave Safeco a five-star rating. However, I feel the rates may be a little high considering my wife and I only average between 5,000 and 6,000 miles per year on each vehicle.

I haven't had any accidents in decades. I had an incident in a Walgreen's parking lot where a young man claimed I backed into him. There were no marks from his black car on my white car. I gave him my insurance information, talked to the agent, and then was told it was my fault - even though I didn't even feel a hit. The SafeCo agent didn't act in my best interest, and then added it to my record, increasing my insurance costs. The claim was $700 but the premium amount increased annually by that amount. SafeCo is not an insurance company that works for their customers, which would be us.

Too corporate. I've been with my agent/Safco for over 50 years. Other than writing or adjusting policies, my agent has no authority. Everything else goes to an 800 number. For example, in 2017 we lost our home due to the California wildfires. We had only 20 minutes to evacuate and lost everything. We only had what we were wearing. I called my agent that morning and was told I have to call claims. I called and explained the situation, that we lost everything - clothes, cars, credit cards, everything. The claims person stated 'They would have someone contact me within 24 hours'. I asked what do I do until then. There was no reply. That showed me the compassion of your company. I've been with one company for 50+ years for Home, Auto, and Business.

I was penalized heavily for one accident (only involving myself) and one speeding ticket (9 over the speed limit). I'm 71 years old and have only had three accidents in my lifetime since I started driving at 16. My Pennsylvania driving record was very good. However, my rates with SAFECO have more than doubled. We believe that we were misquoted on the liability rate for one of our vehicles. When we looked into other companies, the liability premium from SAFECO for that vehicle was over three times more for the same coverage. We believe we were grossly overcharged over a period of several years for the coverage on that vehicle. When we contacted our agent, she said that was the going rate. We asked her to double-check the rate, but she never got back to us. Based on that, we decided to switch to another company, and we were able to save over $3000 per year over what SAFECO was charging us for home and auto coverage. We believe we received bad information from our agent, and in addition, our new insurer has cheaper rates for equivalent coverage. We are very unhappy with SAFECO and our agent at Fourier Insurance.

I have been with Safeco for roughly 30 years, currently holding 8 policies at a cost of $6,000.00 a year. I submitted a minor claim and was accused of being untruthful. The claim was denied without any investigation by adjuster Ashley Parsons, from Ventura, California. I requested a written explanation from supervisor Paul Crabtree on two occasions, but received no response. My plan is to move all policies to another carrier and spread the word about the claims handling procedures of the company.
