The agent applied a discount to my policy that I wasn't aware of, specifically a 'newer system' discount. The underwriting department then sent me a notice stating that if I couldn't produce an invoice for a complete plumbing system, they would need to remove the discount and charge me for it. I feel the agent did whatever he could to secure new business. The initial savings were great, but the latest renewal quotes and the inability to negotiate replacement costs have been disappointing. The rates from different carriers vary greatly. Auto insurance continues to rise even though car values depreciate. Despite having a clean driving record and using the safe driver app, my rates have not decreased. Both my home and auto insurance increased by more than $1,000 each, which is absolutely ridiculous. Claims are another story. I was treated fairly in a no-fault incident involving a treadmill in the middle of the highway. It was listed as a collision, but I had to argue to get the fault tag removed. I also learned that SAFECO keeps a record of claims tied to the VIN from previous owners, which can affect your premium if the claims were made within the last 5 years. It seems to always be about the bottom line, and we are being priced out of our homes and cars due to insurance alone. As for bundled policies, they feel like entrapment because we are unable to negotiate with other carriers where we might get a better deal.
