The claims process was horrible. They wouldn't cover my daughter's accident because we hadn't added her to the policy. When she got her license at 18, our insurance rate increased significantly, so I assumed they had automatically added her.

My experience with Root has been extremely negative. My daughter and I have been careful and diligent about adhering to the driving test. However, in situations where one or both of us are not driving, or when my toddler grandson uses her phone for videos in his car seat to avoid distracting her, we are penalized. As a result, my insurance rate is exorbitantly high. I will be looking for another company that doesn't take advantage of its clients.

In the first six months, it was easy to use and affordable. However, after the first six months, the price of my insurance almost doubled, going from $164 up to $284 a month, with no explanation.

I wouldn't recommend Root. They increased my rate by $200 a month without any valid reason. I have no tickets or accidents, and I even passed their 'driving test' with a perfect score. In my opinion, Root doesn't seem to be a fair choice.

The rate started off decent, but after the 'trial period', it increased by over $300 for my monthly rate. It seems they use this as a strategy to charge more. They make you think you're getting a good deal on insurance, only to double the price later using any excuse to extract more money from you. If I could, I would give them a 0/5. I advise against giving this company your money.

I have an excellent driving record. That being said, I started out at $62 per month. Over a period of 3 years, it gradually climbed up to well over $100, with no claims, no tickets, and no accidents. It's a scam. They lure you in with a cheap rate, then significantly increase it.

The customer service was really poor. I had a representative on the phone, but I couldn't hear him because of someone singing loudly in the background. I had their insurance for 4 1/2 months but had paid for 6 months. When I canceled my policy, they only refunded me $191 out of almost $700. Considering I only had the insurance for a couple of months, this seems very unfair.

The adjuster behaved unethically after a claim was processed. We were rear-ended in a hit and run accident. My husband sustained a back injury and had to use the personal injury protection (PIP) that we pay for. However, the adjuster categorized the accident as a collision and our rates have increased. I have been trying to contact them for the past 2.5 years, but they won't respond.

It seemed great at first, but then my cost increased significantly every year. I just switched to a company that used to be too expensive because they are now saving me $70 a month on my car insurance. I started out paying $75 a month with Root and ended up paying $150 a month. That's nearly double in just two years! I will not recommend them to anyone.

I wouldn't recommend them. They were great from the beginning until last month, a period of over 7 months. But all of a sudden, the rate I have been paying for full coverage ($112.00) is now the rate for state minimums, and they have raised my monthly payment to $378.00. I have no accidents or tickets. So, they are shady at the very least.

Even though I had roadside assistance, when I broke down on the highway, I had to make several calls over the course of an hour and they were never able to send anyone. They also charged more than a local tow company. They said I would not be charged until the tow was completed, but they charged before they even attempted to send anyone. I should not have been charged at all since I had the coverage. When it was time to renew, the premium increase was nearly $100 more per month. It was not worth it at all.
