I wouldn't have chosen Root if I hadn't needed insurance urgently. The price was extremely high for basic coverage and it was raised despite having a clean driving record and a great driving score on the app. I wouldn't recommend it unless it's a last resort. They will charge you excessively to renew your policy.

The first six months weren't bad; it was good value for money. However, they tried to increase the policy by over a hundred dollars a month for the next six months. That was too much of a jump for us, so we switched.

They somewhat act in a predatory manner by locking you in with fair rates, then increasing the price by hundreds of dollars when it's time for policy renewal. This happens despite having no claims or any issues during the duration of the policy.

They initially offer you a good rate. However, after a driving test, which is not at all accurate, they give you a lower score than what it says you have. Using this as an excuse, they increase the rate to at least double of what they originally quoted you.

My policy was due on the 28th and they informed me they were going to cancel my policy on the 12th, even though I had already paid it. I requested a cancellation and a refund, but they only gave me part of my money back. They should have refunded the full amount because I paid ahead.

They offered me an amazing rate for my first year. However, after that, their rates became comparable to other insurance companies. When I tried to change my policy, adjusting my deductions only saved me $20 a month. I should have been more attentive, but we also need more federal consumer protection laws.

I haven't had any claims, tickets, DUIs, or anything of the sort. Despite driving very little, my insurance price keeps increasing. As a retiree on a fixed income, these prices are unaffordable for me. My only source of income is social security, and I still have living expenses to cover. I started with Root four years ago when I had an older pickup truck. In three years, the price doubled. Now, I have a small car with full coverage that I can't afford, and there's no way to edit my policy without canceling it.

They have a system where you can earn points, which I still don't understand the purpose of. Some of these points aren't even attainable because they never seem to credit.
