Mercury GO is not ideal because it requires you to use an app on your phone instead of your personal vehicle. This is particularly inconvenient when the vehicle you've insured with Mercury stays parked at home while you're driving a company vehicle 90% of the time.

I don't feel like they have good rates, even though I've been with them for a long time. When I had a claim, three or four people called me, and none of them had spoken to each other about my claim. Everyone asked me different questions about the same vehicle. It was so frustrating to deal with so many people, and none of them knew what was going on. Also, when I asked them why the prices are so high, they couldn't explain it to me, and it takes them forever to call me back.

Mercury will raise your rates to a price higher than the one you switched from when you first became a Mercury customer. The lower rate is only for the first 6 months. This happens regardless of how clean your driving record is.

We have been with Mercury for at least 20 years and never had a claim. However, they are challenging to work with when it comes to policy coverage. They continually raise the vehicle mileages every year, even though we do not drive anywhere close to those mileages on most of the vehicles. They never ask for mileage verification before raising the rates each year. Then, they make it very difficult to adjust the mileages once the policy is renewed. They are too policy-driven and not customer-driven. We are actively looking for another company that is more customer-friendly and cost-effective. However, I am finding that such a company may not exist. Very frustrating.

I was disappointed. They promised a rate of $104 per month - except the first month was to be slightly higher due to admin costs for policy set-up. The actual rate was $114 per month. But after 3 months, it was raised to $117 per month, then $127 and kept going up. At the annual renewal, it was up to $179 per month. I contacted the agent about the constant rate increases only to be told she had no control over rates. I can't comment on the claim service because I never filed a claim.

We filed a roof claim and had two different roofing contractors check and take pictures showing hail damage. We waited for over a month for the original adjuster to approve or reject the claim, and he felt it should be rejected. They sent a third-party inspector and then we discovered our adjuster had left the company. We got another adjuster and after another three weeks, she flatly rejected our claim.

This is one of the few auto insurance companies that offers annual policies and has maintained the same rates for 2 1/2 years. However, I haven't received a satisfactory explanation for why the collision premium doubled on my 2024 renewal. I prefer dealing directly with the company rather than through Jerry, my agent. All the other companies I've used in the last 12 years seem to increase their rates by 20 - 30% every 6 months. Since I retired and moved back to Carroll County, VA, I've noticed an almost 40% increase since last January, which I find unacceptable.
