Excellent, you need someone in the family to be military or a veteran. I just got a check from the subscriber account USAA uses as a safety valve. This check basically paid for 6 months of coverage.

Great insurance, except they are twice the price of everyone else. Lots of discounts, but without the discounts, they are four times as much as other insurance companies. Basically, the only thing wrong with them is the price.

Excellent company has its challenges
They are very responsive and customer service-oriented; however, they are very expensive. I have been with USAA for more than 30 years but find it increasingly difficult to pay for the car and home insurance while on a fixed income. I wish they were more flexible on their pricing as they are an excellent company. Oh, and trying to reach them on the phone is a frustrating challenge for an older person with all their security measures.

Switched to Progressive After 25 Years with USAA
Switched to Progressive from USAA after 25 years. USAA would not work with me on lower car insurance rates (we are retired) after they jumped $80/month. I've been very impressed with Progressive, setting up auto for 2 cars, plus I moved our homeowners policy as well. I was disappointed that USAA wouldn't try harder to keep me as a customer, but switching to Progressive is proving to be a great move. Full policy matching what we had with USAA, saving $100/month!

What happened to USAA Customer Service?
USAA used to be a customer-oriented organization focused on providing excellent service and reasonable prices to service military personnel. Over the years, rates have gone up on auto insurance, and multi-vehicle policies are one size fits all. In other words, if you have an older car you own and a newer vehicle that is financed, USAA automatically insures both vehicles with the same coverage. I have gone in and adjusted coverages only to have them raised just before renewal. Their bundle rates aren’t bad and are competitive, but their auto coverage is still higher than many competitors. It seems they’re all about profits, a far cry from the original mission statement and focus.

USAA is a pretty good company!
USAA has been really good on the car side but needs a little more attention when you have a possible home issue. They, however, did lower our rates when I asked them for some help on that particular subject. Maybe I should have given them four stars instead of five, but I took everything into consideration and decided they deserved five stars! We have been with them for over five years, so I just thought back on how it has been over the last five years, and I can honestly say I haven’t had any problems!

Beware of Amendments
USAA does accept amendments from body shops that result in overpayments. These excessive amounts should be reappraised by a claims adjuster to prevent fraudulent, additional claims by a body shop. I have experienced such overcharges that were not performed on my vehicle. This needs to stop!

Unexpected Charges
USAA has, for some reason, decided to charge me $250.00 for auto insurance on a 2019 Nissan Rogue, plus home insurance of $244.46. They also charge a $3.00 installment fee. I changed banks and missed a payment, which was the first time I ever missed a payment, but now they want $477.46 a month. I don’t think I’ll be with this company much longer.

USAA has no loyalty to long-term customers
USAA consistently delivers exceptional service; I have been a loyal customer for nearly two decades. However, I've observed a continuous increase in rates, which suggests a lack of loyalty to long-standing customers. I believe USAA should consider implementing loyalty discounts for their tenured clientele, rather than consistently raising their rates.

Satisfaction is Not Guaranteed
I don't think they try to give us the best value for our money and don't give experienced, older, and accident-free customers a break, especially long-term and older customers. They handle accidents very well, but they don't try to give us the best bang for our money.

Buyer beware if you ever have a significant claim
Despite being insured with this company for 30 years and having minimal claims, our latest claim experience has been pure misery. We had to fight against a low vehicle valuation based on false "comparable" vehicles and an overstated repair estimate based on misinformation, which together led to a false total-loss declaration. Be prepared to vigorously defend your interests if you ever have a claim.

Tina's Warning
Do not go with USAA. They changed my amount from $97 to $160, saying their rates went up. To me, that sucks. The only way my rate should change that much is if I increased my coverage or lowered my deductible, but I didn't do any of those. Am I right? Still, it skyrocketed. I had to drop down to just liability on one vehicle. Don't use USAA.

Why I Chose to Leave USAA After 17 Years
USAA insurance company is great for filing claims quickly and easily. They pay claims promptly and are super helpful. However, when it comes to truly caring about their members, it's disappointing. I have credit cards, bank accounts, my car loan, and car insurance all under USAA. Personally, after battling cancer and health issues, getting USAA to show compassion for my situation was nonexistent. They only seem to care about active duty members, which is the only group they will help in a financial crisis. For that reason, I am really disappointed in USAA as a whole. I think for the money, it's not worth it. There are other companies that will insure my car just the same for cheaper. I don't need to carry the USAA brand and overpay when they won't do anything for a member going through something catastrophic.

USAA lied about coverage
I've had USAA for 6 months. I was told an accident I had 3 years ago would be off my record by the time it renewed. I called back when I found out it did not and would not be for 2 more years. I was also told that the mileage tracker was just like a game and they knew nothing about my total mileage. Now I just don't trust anything they say!

USA's Monitoring Practices
I do not care for their big brother approach. They monitor your hands-free phone calls and deduct points for talking, which affects your premium. They also took my average miles driven per year and divided it by 12. If I go over my monthly allowance, I pay more for my next premium. Ridiculous!

Expensive. They are decent if you are in an accident - they arrange a rental (if you have that coverage) and contact the other driver's insurance, and manage the claim. Verify what you are told vs. what policy actually applies
I'd say they are great at collecting premiums, but not so great with claims. Be sure you do your own research and record the information the representative explains to you. It does not necessarily mean your policy reflects what you're told by the agent.
