My State Farm agent is further from me, and being a recent widow and not feeling well, I went to the State Farm agent close to me in East Dundee. The first agent was trying her best to help, but she was having some problems. The second agent came running over and yelled at me, saying I needed a report and I just could not walk in and ask for assistance without one. Being yelled at upset me, and I told her I had the report and I didn’t need her yelling at me because I was recently widowed. She didn’t say a word or look at me and left the office. What a big mistake I made going to this State Farm agent!

If you have State Farm and you are a victim in an accident where the at-fault driver also has State Farm, do not believe the agent if they tell you there's no need for a lawyer. You will regret it! We were hit hard by a State Farm driver and were told there was no need for a lawyer. It was during COVID, and claims people were all working from home. Our claims agent was irresponsible and misleading. She told us and our State Farm agent that our claim was open and apologized for the delay in paying our medical bills, which were threatening our credit. She was not truthful and seemed unconcerned. After an endless hassle with everything—doctors, rental car, new car—we were nearing the two-year limit to settle the claim and were informed that "Sorry, we never had a claim filed." Our agent was stunned and also said, "Maybe you should get a lawyer," after leading us on for two years during my wife's recovery. We had no claim for all the incidental costs associated with our injuries and other losses. State Farm: "Like a bad neighbor, State Farm you wish wasn't there."

The reason I’m leaving State Farm is because I’ve never filed a claim and am a safe driver. We are older and don’t do much driving anymore, yet our premiums increase substantially each year without meaningful discounts. I never hear about any policy updates from our local State Farm office unless it's to tell me my homeowners insurance is underinsured, which I’ve known, but we cannot afford to just pay more money when a company decides for us that we need to increase coverage. The same thing happens with auto insurance; every year, there are increases. I just received notification by mail from State Farm of a $90 increase. I didn’t understand the legal terminology, which so many companies use knowing customers most likely don’t understand and many just disregard and pay increases. In this economy, and since we’re on a fixed income, I called our local office as instructed on the mail notification of an additional increase in costs of our auto and homeowners bundled policies. The young lady I spoke with couldn’t answer what warranted a $90 increase when we have had zero claims.
When I was called by a local young lady at our office, I told her I was aware our home could use more insurance but that I can either eat or increase payments on premiums I’ve never even filed a claim on. She asked me when our roof had been replaced; it had been 3-4 years before. She was surprised, and I honestly thought that would go towards NOT increasing my premiums, but there was nothing. We had made several home improvements, painted the exterior recently, and replaced some of the window trim where it needed replacing. We only hear from the office when they call clients to try and get more money from people. It’s not rocket science. In this economy, people are looking to cut costs rather than keep overpaying companies who just make sure someone is there to do the readout on computers whether someone paid their premium or not.
Looking over these insurance quotes for basic liability, which is all I can afford on the vehicles, and only one is driven much at all, even with a homeowners quote for one quote, at full replacement value of our home, as well as insuring all 4 of our vehicles, it’s cheaper than what I’d be paying State Farm for less. I was told by the young lady at our local State Farm that she would contact their billing department and find out why the $90 charge was coming. I never heard back from her. The entire insurance thing for many is a sham. All we do is pay premiums that increase annually, in spite of not even having to use it! God forbid the day comes when we do need it. The one time we had a twister plow through our neighborhood about 20 years ago, the insurance adjuster came and tried harder to NOT HELP me than he should have, clearly seeing the damage. It's like when you need it, it’s not easy to receive help for what you’ve been paying for all along. I refuse to pay State Farm just to take my money and increase annually on a whim. I’m looking for better coverage and less cost. State Farm is gouging people, and everyone I’ve spoken with who uses them says the same.
