My agent is in a brick-and-mortar office close by (and not in another state or country). Also, my agent worked with me to get a good rate. I also like the State Farm "beacon" device that monitors and rates my driving—I found this actually has made my driving habits improve!

My years with State Farm
I have been with State Farm in one form or another for probably 50 years or more. My experience with them has been very positive in handling claims, responding to my requests, and the general level of service. However, there seems to be no recognition of the value of my business over the years as I was summarily canceled in error a couple of times, and their recent rates have gotten quite high, bordering on being uncompetitive.

Relationship Matters
Always stay with your insurance company long enough to be recognized and treated with respect. It must go both ways. You should feel free to make a connection with one representative so communication flows. My agent is Gina Marie. She understands my wants and needs because she knows me on a personal level, and she never leaves me feeling unsatisfied. I've been with Craig Duncan State Farm for many years. No matter how I may complain about my rates being high, I could never end our relationship. Thank you, State Farm.

A great start but a lousy finish
The staff at my old State Farm agency were first-rate, but my price steadily rose every renewal, even when I had no tickets, accidents, or DWIs. I did have two claims: one for a cracked windshield caused by a hailstorm and the second when my 2023 GMC Sierra 4x4 was stolen. I paid just over $82k cash for it, and when it was stolen, I had less than 9,000 miles on it. I received $31,000 from State Farm for my claim.

They start out fairly reasonably, and then they keep raising it and raising it. We had a bad storm with hail and severe wind. I feel that I don't have any tickets and have never had a ticket or an accident, yet my insurance is so high. One time, my agent charged me over $200 a month for three months, claiming I was behind on something. I've never been behind on a payment in my whole life. Then my bill went down to $139 and some cents. I told State Farm and my agent about all the money I have to pay for insurance and questioned how it was my fault when my agent takes my payment out of my bank account every month. Like I told State Farm, I'm retired and don't have a lot of money, and yet you charge me that kind of money for my insurance, even though I've been with you for years. I feel it's just not right to treat someone like that.

Expensive, Non-Caring
Expensive and impersonal at times when handling claims. As a long-term customer, I was treated like a new or non-long-term customer. I worked with corporate over the phone rather than with a local agency. Service in the past was more personal with a local agent, but in the past 5+ years, it has been dealt with over the phone with an agent who knows nothing of your history.

I’ve had State Farm insurance for approximately 45 years. Unfortunately, the service went down following the untimely death of my prior insurance agent. Gone is the personal attention and sense that the agent is acting in my best interest. I’m currently shopping for a different insurance company. State Farm’s rates are way too high.

Like A Bad Neighbor...State Farm Wasn't There
If you have State Farm and you are a victim in an accident where the at-fault driver also has State Farm, do not believe the agent if they tell you there's no need for a lawyer. You will regret it! We were hit hard by a State Farm driver and were told there was no need for a lawyer. It was during COVID, and claims people were all working from home. Our claims agent was irresponsible and misleading. She told us and our State Farm agent that our claim was open and apologized for the delay in paying our medical bills, which were threatening our credit. She was not truthful and seemed unconcerned. After an endless hassle with everything—doctors, rental car, new car—we were nearing the two-year limit to settle the claim and were informed that "Sorry, we never had a claim filed." Our agent was stunned and also said, "Maybe you should get a lawyer," after leading us on for two years during my wife's recovery. We had no claim for all the incidental costs associated with our injuries and other losses. State Farm: "Like a bad neighbor, State Farm you wish wasn't there."

State Farm Good at Increasing Premiums
The reason I’m leaving State Farm is because I’ve never filed a claim and am a safe driver. We are older and don’t do much driving anymore, yet our premiums increase substantially each year without meaningful discounts. I never hear about any policy updates from our local State Farm office unless it's to tell me my homeowners insurance is underinsured, which I’ve known, but we cannot afford to just pay more money when a company decides for us that we need to increase coverage. The same thing happens with auto insurance; every year, there are increases. I just received notification by mail from State Farm of a $90 increase. I didn’t understand the legal terminology, which so many companies use knowing customers most likely don’t understand and many just disregard and pay increases. In this economy, and since we’re on a fixed income, I called our local office as instructed on the mail notification of an additional increase in costs of our auto and homeowners bundled policies. The young lady I spoke with couldn’t answer what warranted a $90 increase when we have had zero claims. When I was called by a local young lady at our office, I told her I was aware our home could use more insurance but that I can either eat or increase payments on premiums I’ve never even filed a claim on. She asked me when our roof had been replaced; it had been 3-4 years before. She was surprised, and I honestly thought that would go towards NOT increasing my premiums, but there was nothing. We had made several home improvements, painted the exterior recently, and replaced some of the window trim where it needed replacing. We only hear from the office when they call clients to try and get more money from people. It’s not rocket science. In this economy, people are looking to cut costs rather than keep overpaying companies who just make sure someone is there to do the readout on computers whether someone paid their premium or not. Looking over these insurance quotes for basic liability, which is all I can afford on the vehicles, and only one is driven much at all, even with a homeowners quote for one quote, at full replacement value of our home, as well as insuring all 4 of our vehicles, it’s cheaper than what I’d be paying State Farm for less. I was told by the young lady at our local State Farm that she would contact their billing department and find out why the $90 charge was coming. I never heard back from her. The entire insurance thing for many is a sham. All we do is pay premiums that increase annually, in spite of not even having to use it! God forbid the day comes when we do need it. The one time we had a twister plow through our neighborhood about 20 years ago, the insurance adjuster came and tried harder to NOT HELP me than he should have, clearly seeing the damage. It's like when you need it, it’s not easy to receive help for what you’ve been paying for all along. I refuse to pay State Farm just to take my money and increase annually on a whim. I’m looking for better coverage and less cost. State Farm is gouging people, and everyone I’ve spoken with who uses them says the same.

SF 👎 out to make money for themselves
Stay away from SF, Allstate, Progressive, and all the major companies as their insurance rates are going sky high. I think what you need to do is go for something mid-sized or, if you can find a small company that actually pays claims and provides good customer service, that will be best. Otherwise, if you go with the small ones, you’ll be hit with all the fly-by-nighters.

They need to make their billing easier to understand. What they are doing now is very difficult to comprehend. They should automatically give discounts if you are a loyal customer and quit showing a huge profit for the agent. Give back to the customers; we pay enough in premiums.

Might want to shop around a little before settling with this company
State Farm has an incredibly easy claims process, and I think you pay extra for some of those features. I personally used a broker for our policy, and I’m not sure if she was the issue or if State Farm was also, but we had a claim on one policy, and State Farm proceeded to drop us from all of our policies, even the one that was not involved in the claim. No one told us, and we were dropped last minute because of it. One of my vehicles was also up for renewal, and we were not informed there was a form to be signed, so I went uninsured for two weeks without knowing. Really bad experience and will not be using State Farm ever again as a result.

Money hungry, not loyal to their CUSTOMERS
I've been with State Farm since 1959—that's 66 years. How much money do you think I've paid into this company? Your prices are way too high for us seniors and your loyal customers. I've had all my cars and home insurance with State Farm all these years. I have always owned three or four cars insured at a time. I am retired and live on my Social Security and pension. I am shopping the marketplace for better-priced insurance. The internet is bombarded with all kinds of bargains. Insurance is just a scam that I've put up with for years.

Not Fair to the Average Person
They keep raising the insurance price, and their answer for doing so is ridiculous because of the area where I live. I have to move for my rates to go down. Where do I have to move to? I like the people there; they talk nicely to you and are very helpful, but it's just not fair with the rates.

So-so, the sign of the times.
Not happy, but it seems to be lower priced than others. No claims filed, so I don't know. Discounts should be more with incidental mileage, and while I have a credit score over 800, it should not apply to insurance companies. Why? You pay and you get insurance; you don't pay and you have none. For those with lower credit scores, it usually means a higher premium. Just a way for all insurance companies to make more money. They never lose, you know.

Overcharging $771/6 months after one accident
Don't use State Farm. I had one accident last year. I backed into a tree in my driveway. It was the only claim I had with them after having them for quite a while. That increased my insurance by over $200 in June, then again this December to $771 for 6 months. I drive 5,000 miles a year. Is that reasonable? I called them and they wouldn't work with me, saying it was because of the accident. It wasn't a major accident with any person injured and the damage was only to my car's driver side.

For being a loyal customer for over 30 years, we get no discount. Instead, they keep charging us $60 more for each car every 6 months, and our home insurance also keeps going up by $100 each year. We have never had a claim on our cars or home. When I questioned them about why they keep raising my rates, they said it's because more people live in my area and building materials have gone up. This is not an excuse to me. They also said they don't give discounts for seniors either.
