However, as I am not using my car as much as I used to and have never had a ticket, I am looking to get a lower price for my auto insurance. I keep seeing notices that suggest I should be able to get a much lower price than I am currently paying.

The representative performed well, but USAA needs to reconsider and significantly lower their rates. They are not the Nieman Marcus of insurance.

I have been with USA for more than 60 years. I am very happy with them. I had my car and my home insured for all of that time. I drive very little anymore, certainly well under 50 miles a day. I see ads for much lower rates and I was just looking to see if there are lower rates out there and if USA would give me a lower rate. I have no plans to change my insurance.

Check for quotes from other companies.

They are good with my wife's policy, but for no apparent reason, they doubled my rate, stating that I had too many accounts. All of my accounts are paid through auto pay, and I haven't had any tickets or accidents for at least 40 years. Plus, I have more than enough income to cover all my debts.

Don't get into an accident because even if it's not your fault, they will find some way to make it partially your fault so they don't have to cover your deductible.

Even though I've been with them for 18 years, I can't recommend them anymore. They resort to bait and switch tactics, and they don't tell you the truth. They even apply a surcharge when they assure you at the time of signing up for accident forgiveness that it will never be on your record.

Less time waiting to talk to a human. More confidence with the cost of insurance compared to other companies. USAA has always been the best insurance, but with the current state of the economy, other companies are less expensive for the same coverage. Most of the older military retirees can no longer afford USAA and are looking for more reasonable prices.

I was with them for over 15 years. I forgot to update my credit card information and they didn't send any diligent letters or calls. They cancelled my policy and when I started it again the very next day, my rates doubled. There seems to be no customer loyalty.

The service was very poor. They sent my check to a bank I no longer use, and that was my food money. They said I might get it in 90 days. They were supposed to mail it to my home address. I'm very upset and will be looking for new insurance after my house is fixed.

The claims process has become unbearable. Despite having full coverage, I had to hire an attorney to get the repairs approved.

My rate went from just under $700 for 6 months to over $1400 for the same period! They track your every move, and not very accurately at that. They penalize you for heavy braking, even if you're stopping for a red light, or using the in-car answering system for your phone. All of this affects your discount for the next 6 months. Despite being a US Army Veteran, I get no breaks on my discount.

A few years ago, a minor male bicyclist collided with my car, which my wife was driving at the time. She was leaving a large intersection with a green light when the bicyclist, who was riding in a pedestrian lane, appeared from behind a stopped box truck that obscured his approach. The local police department in Belmont, MA, was called and the Traffic Control Officer wrote up the accident report, clearing my wife of any responsibility. I forwarded this report to USAA. However, when I applied for increased motor vehicle insurance coverage about a year later, I was denied. USAA cited the accident with the bicyclist as a chargeable accident against my wife, despite the police report, and they had never informed us about this. I was never able to resolve this issue. Another incident occurred on December 14, 2023. I wired $60,000 to USAA for a 7-month CD and received a receipt acknowledgment. However, on the same day, the deposit was withdrawn without any direct notice to me, except for a normal monthly bank statement reflecting the withdrawal without any explanation in mid-January. It took about 9 days for USAA to resolve the issue and return the $60,000. This was a very stressful 9 days for me, and I never received an apology or explanation. Trying to reach someone with authority through numerous phone calls was literally impossible. It took a two-page business letter with 7 enclosures to get the CEO's right-hand woman to take action and return the $60,000 to my credit union. As for insurance rates, we own, register, and insure two cars that are driven about 10 miles per week on average, sometimes 100 miles on a Saturday to visit our daughter. However, it seems that we do not receive any discount for this.

Get 3-5 quotes from others before making a decision!

They make every effort to charge you more, but only look to reduce the rates when you are about to drop their services. Fair, but expensive.

Look for another carrier. The coverage is overpriced, about 1 1/2 times more than most other carriers.

I assumed that USAA would offer better rates than other insurance companies due to my military background. However, I found that my auto insurance is as high, if not higher, than it was before I switched to USAA. I acknowledge that I had a DUI almost six years ago, which was a borderline case. I was reported for swerving due to some young kids in a large truck with high-beam lights, while I was driving my lower Cadillac. I believe they were the ones who reported me as there was no one else on the road. The officer who pulled me over was new on the job. Two senior officers who arrived at the scene later said they wouldn't have cited me as they could see I wasn't drunk. Prior to this incident, I had a perfect driving record. I don't think it's fair for insurance companies to penalize people in this manner.

They seem to be unprofessional. I have a perfect driving record with no tickets or accidents in over 50 years. Two months into my policy, I received two late fees, an increase in policy rates, and experienced poor customer service. This has been a headache.

It seems like insurance companies, in general, are more interested in taking money and then fighting over every cent when it's time to give back. You may pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to these companies throughout your life, but it feels like they make it difficult to get any of that money back when you need it. Moreover, it seems like they increase your rates when they actually have to pay for something, as if you should be penalized for needing their service. It feels like a system that doesn't contribute positively to the world.

Don't. They've raised my rates every year, which is more than what someone with no accidents or tickets should experience. Especially when competitors quote me $100 less than USAA. Their homeowners insurance is just as poor.

Shop carefully if you have time. USAA is no longer the best buy, especially since they have started mass audience advertising. It seems they are seeking a wider and more diverse customer base. Many features of the original organization are gone. Contacting them requires great patience. It's easier to reach most other insurance companies. Their phone contact security is overkill, meaning that callers need a multitude of PIN numbers, passwords, and other protective measures.

Overpriced.

It's difficult to process a transaction due to always getting a different agent on the line. You have to repeat what you are trying to change to each one. Also, there are long wait times.

Despite having no tickets or accidents, my renewal rate increases every six months. The rate has doubled in the past two to three years. I managed to save $60 a month by changing the coverage, but a few months later, during renewal, the cost increased by $50 a month.

I'm not happy with how their underwriters decide the cost of your premium.

I believe they're overpriced. They don't trust your account of an accident. Even when I told them I wasn't at fault, they still claimed I was, despite my car being stationary and the other person hitting me. They still deemed it my fault.

Look elsewhere. When I had a claim, both the auto and homeowner policies blamed each other. Bottom line, neither claim was paid by USAA.
