At Insurify, our goal is to help customers compare insurance products and find the best policy for them. We strive to provide open, honest, and unbiased information about the insurance products and services we review. Our hard-working team of data analysts, insurance experts, insurance agents, editors and writers, has put in thousands of hours of research to create the content found on our site.

We do receive compensation when a sale or referral occurs from many of the insurance providers and marketing partners on our site. That may impact which products we display and where they appear on our site. But it does not influence our meticulously researched editorial content, what we write about, or any reviews or recommendations we may make. We do not guarantee favorable reviews or any coverage at all in exchange for compensation.

Why you can trust Insurify: Comparing accurate insurance quotes should never put you at risk of spam. We earn an agent commission only if you buy a policy based on our quotes. It’s possible to get an anonymous car insurance quote without providing any personal information. But opting for an anonymous insurance quote may mean the estimate you receive looks a bit different from the price you’ll eventually pay for car insurance.

For the most accurate quote, you’ll need to enter personal information, like your driver’s license number, address, age, and more. You can get car insurance quotes anonymously by using a car insurance calculator or an insurance-comparison tool.

Quick Facts
  • You can use anonymous insurance estimates to get a rough idea of insurance rates.

  • Some online insurance-comparison tools are more reputable than others.

  • Personal details, like your driving history and ZIP code, can affect your quote.[1]

How to get a car insurance quote without giving personal information

It’s possible to get an anonymous car insurance quote without giving out any personal information. But insurers will base the quotes you receive on the limited information provided.

As a result, people typically use anonymous quotes for information-gathering purposes rather than getting a true insurance rate estimate. If you want to finalize your insurance quote and sign up for a policy, most insurance companies will ask you to provide more detailed information, like your name, age, address, gender, the type of car you drive, and more.

Here’s a closer look at how to get an anonymous car insurance quote without providing detailed personal information.

1. Use a car insurance calculator

Several platforms, including Insurify, offer tools — like insurance calculators — that can provide an estimate of what you might pay for auto insurance.

A calculator typically bases your estimated insurance cost on some basic information, like the state you live in, your age, and your credit. Some calculators also allow you to select discounts you might qualify for, like good driving or insuring multiple cars.

When using a calculator to get an insurance quote, it’s important to keep in mind that the quoted rate is just a rough estimate. In order to get an actual quote, you’ll likely need to use another tool or speak to an agent and provide your detailed personal information.

2. Use a comparison website

An online insurance-comparison tool can help you take a deeper dive into car insurance quotes than a calculator. You can compare auto insurance quotes from multiple insurers in one place, which can help you quickly find the best insurance option to meet your needs.

If you’re concerned about staying anonymous, you should know that when using an online comparison tool, you’ll often need to provide more personal information than you would with a car insurance calculator. For example, you might need to provide your ZIP code or age to move forward through the quoting process.

If you use a reputable site, you won’t need to worry about companies using your personal information to spam your inbox or phone. But some online quote-comparison tools are actually lead-generation sites designed to collect and sell your personal information. While you may still be able to get comparison quotes using one of these sites, you could potentially open yourself up to an influx of unwanted spam calls and emails.

Personal information that most insurance companies require to get an accurate quote

To get an accurate rate quote, most insurance companies typically require you to provide the following types of personal information:

  • illustration card https://a.storyblok.com/f/162273/150x150/2f27798b1b/family-96x96-yellow_040-couple.svg

    Demographic information

Basic information might include your age, gender, credit score, and ZIP code. Insurers use these personal details to assess your risk level, which typically correlates to your car insurance rates. For example: If you’re a teen driver in a big city, you’ll likely pay more than a middle-aged driver in a rural area since insurers consider young drivers to be a higher risk.

  • illustration card https://a.storyblok.com/f/162273/150x150/7d6bccfe65/car-and-driving-96x96-blue_019-car.svg

    Vehicle information

Details about your vehicle, like the make, model, and age, can affect your premiums. Factors like the average cost of repairs, safety features, and theft rates for your particular vehicle all influence your rate.[2]

  • illustration card https://a.storyblok.com/f/162273/150x150/91ba6cf35a/insurify-icons-auto-orange-96x96_045-document.svg

    Coverage level

The amount of coverage you want also has a big effect on your costs. For example, a full-coverage insurance policy generally costs more than a policy that only meets your state’s minimum requirements.

  • illustration card https://a.storyblok.com/f/162273/150x150/059ca38826/car-sharing-96x96-green_005-driving-license.svg

    Driver’s license number

Car insurance companies use your driver’s license details to confirm your eligibility to drive legally and to check your driving history for accidents and other traffic violations. A clean record often can help you keep rates lower, as insurance companies see you as a lower risk.

Unsatisfied

I have been with The General for approximately 5 years without any incentives or discounts, only increases. They claimed it was due to my driving record.

Personally, as a retired and disabled individual, I find the cost too high considering my vehicle sits idle for months. I wasn't able to get any discounts for lack of miles driven yearly or age, which my friends have received from other insurance companies.

Do Not Do Business with Travelers Insurance

I would advise anyone seeking a recommendation not to do business with Travelers Insurance. I consider them to be a disreputable company. I had both my home and car insured with them and had no claims on either policy. However, they chose not to renew my homeowner's insurance. What's worse, they informed the mortgage company weeks before they informed me! They cited the reason as branches overhanging my roof. There were a couple of small branches from a neighbor's pine tree resting on the gutter. They did not give me any opportunity to correct this issue. I believe this was a malicious act.

Disappointed with the Outcome

We had a very minor collision while waiting at a traffic light. The vehicle in front of us claimed we crept forward. Since there was very little damage (none to our car), we submitted the claim. To our surprise, we found that the other driver reported $3000 worth of damage to the rear of his car, with the only visible damage being a cracked piece of chrome trim at the base of the hatch. We called Travelers immediately, warning them that it was a scam. They seemed indifferent and said they would pay the claim. This could be one of the reasons why insurance rates are so expensive.

Car insurance quote without personal information FAQs

If you’re hoping to get an insurance rate without having to provide too much personal information, here’s some additional information to consider.

  • Can you get car insurance online without talking to someone?

Yes. You can get car insurance online without talking directly to an agent. Many reputable insurance companies offer online quote tools, including GEICO and Progressive. Or, you can choose to use an insurance calculator or online quote-comparison tool.

  • Is it safe to get insurance quotes online?

It’s safe to get insurance quotes online when using a reputable online quote comparison tool, like Insurify. But to help protect your personal data, try to avoid sites that sell your information to third parties or have a reputation for spamming.

  • Are car insurance quotes binding?

No. A car insurance quote doesn’t become a binding contract until you accept it and finalize a policy with a payment.

  • When asking for a car insurance quote, do you need the car’s VIN?

In most cases, you can get an auto insurance quote without providing your car’s VIN. But once you’re ready to purchase the policy, you’ll likely need to provide the VIN.
